John Cena and Brock Lesnar to headline September PLE On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, it was reported that WWE has planned a Premium Live Event for September, and are going to be the main event for the show. The feud began with renewed vigor in 2012, when Lesnar returned to WWE after an eight-year absence. His dominant and destructive style clashed with Cena's heroic and charismatic persona, setting the stage for an intense rivalry between the two legends. WWE SmackDown results (08/08/2025): Secret Hervice interrupts Allies of Convenience, John Cena and Cody Rhodes take on Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre, and more
WWE SmackDown (Image via WWE) WWE's Friday Night SmackDown's August 8th edition was another episode set around the fallout from SummerSlam 2025. Live from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, this SmackDown edition is only a week after the big 2-night event in New Jersey - SummerSlam 2025. Fans expected an appearance from John Cena , and he didn't disappoint. He opened the show to loud cheers from the audience, who loved having the real and face Cena back among them. Opening Segment John Cena obviously was going to address what happened at the end of that night at SummerSlam, and the return of none other than Brock Lesnar back to the ring after more than a year of absence. Cena talks about the crowd and how loud and warm it was. He said he feared leaving it all behind after 2 decades in this business, and that people would forget about him once he leaves. He also fears Lesnar, but he is not going to let that hold him down. The Cenation leader says that if Brock Lesnar wanted some, he could come and get some. Just then, Logan Paul makes his entrance to loud boos from the audience as usual. He mocks Cena for turning face again, and says since Cena was giving out matches, he wants one. He proposes a face-off at Clash in Paris when Drew McIntyre attacks Cena from behind. Things were getting a little tough for Cena with these two after him, but just then, none other than Cody Rhodes makes his appearance, and the crowd goes wild. He and Cena make quick work of Paul and McIntyre, and Cena accepts Paul's challenge for Clash in Paris, but before that Rhodes and he will fight Paul and McIntyre in a tag team match tonight. The fans are eating. The Motor City Machine Guns vs. Talla Tonga and JC Mateo The first fight of the night is a tag team match between The Motor City Machine Guns vs. Talla Tonga and JC Mateo of Solo Sikoa's faction, MFT. The latter makes quick work of the MCMG and comes out on top after a chokeslam from Talla Tonga on Chris Sabin. MFTs defeat MCMG via pinfall. Of course, after the match, Solo Sikoa comes to the stage. After hyping the MFT, he says that it's a shame that he is all geared up and ready to fight, but there is no one to fight him. Just then, WWE 's SmackDown GM Nick Aldis makes an appearance and says since Sikoa is so ready to fight, he has someone he can fight. None other than Sami Zayn comes in, and we have our next match ready to go. Solo Sikoa vs. Sami Zayn The match starts after Sami Zayn is done basking in the cheers of the Montreal crowd. Solo Sikoa tries to back Zayn into a corner, but the latter is not having that. When it seems like Zayn is getting the upper hand, Tala Tonga runs interference, Zayn beckons him when Sikoa comes from behind. But Zayn anticipated that and goes for a folding press, taking the win. Sami Zayn defeats Solo Sikoa via pinfall. Backstage Charlotte Flair tells her tag team partner, Alexa Bliss , that since it's the latter's birthday tomorrow, she got her a gift. But she will give it to her on the stage with grandeur. The Allies of Convenience then make their entrance to loud cheering from the Montreal crowd. Flair shows Bliss her gifts - a cake (for both of them) and a tag team partner for Lilly - Charlie, both wearing a WE'RE NOT FRIENDS T-shirt like Little Miss Bliss. And just when everyone thought we were getting a hug from the two non-friends, Chelsea Green and her Secret Hervice make their entrance. Green begins to talk smack to the Tag Team Champions, and Flair says since it's Bliss' birthday, she is ready to give her another present - a show to a fight with Chelsea Green. The Secret Hervice and their leader tried to dodge and flee, but Nick Aldis comes in once more and gives Bliss his own little gift - a brand new referee whose first match is going to be overseeing the one between Flair and Green. And we have our next fight ready to go. Charlotte Flair vs. Chelsea Green Both women inside the ring - Charlotte Flair and Chelsea Green - are powerful and talented. And they bring it to the ring. Flair goes for her opponent with everything she's got, but Green is not one to be quiet about it. Flair goes for a German suplex, Green counters with a superplex. Green gains momentum for a while, and asks Piper Niven and Alba Fyre to bring in the cake that Flair had gotten for Alexa Bliss' birthday. Unfortunately, for Chelsea Green, the plan backfired. While Bliss takes out the Secret Hervice, Flair goes for a killswitch into the cake. And finally, a Figure Eight proves too much for Green who has no other choice but to accept defeat. Charlotte Flair wins by submission. The segment ends with Flair and Bliss eating the very cake that Flair used to smash Chelsea Green's face into. We also get a little backstage segment of John Cena and R-Truth getting to catch-up backstage. Truth says if Cena is back, then he is back, and it adds to a fun moment before the tag team stage is set for the night. Cody Rhodes & John Cena vs. Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul The last match of the night is between Cody Rhodes & John Cena vs. Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul. Rhodes and Paul start it off with McIntyre and Cena on the sidelines. The American Nightmare bashes into his opponent, and soon after, he gives the tag to the Scottish Psychopath. Then it's one after the other as McIntyre and Paul go in and out of the ring, but Rhodes is stuck without being able to tag in his partner. The crowd is chanting "We want Cena," but it is while before Rhodes can finally tag John Cena in. Shoulder block after shoulder block, Cena goes to pin The Maverick after an Attitude Adjustment, but McIntyre interrupts before the three count. Rhodes comes in to block a Claymore from McIntyre and the referee calls it. Cody Rhodes & John Cena win via disqualification. Cena and Paul continue fighting backstage, while Rhodes and McIntyre are still in it. The latter blasts Rhodes with his own championship belt and then pushes him through the table after a Claymore. The night ends with McIntyre talking smack into Cody's ears as he lies there unable to move. Brock Lesnar to join Seth Rollins' faction after his shocking return to the WWE? Possibility explored
Brock Lesnar shocked the world when he returned to WWE programming at SummerSlam 2025 after nearly two years and delivered a devastating F-5 to John Cena. This came immediately after 'The Franchise Player' lost the WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes in a street fight. The former UFC star's actions laid the foundation for a feud with Cena, who has now turned face after a brief heel run. However, could the assault also have planted the seed for something bigger and more exciting? Let's analyse Brock Lesnar to join hands with Seth Rollins? Seth Rollins has been on a roll since he aligned with Paul Heyman at WrestleMania 41. He was soon joined by Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker. The group, dubbed 'The Vision', has emerged as a fixture in the main event scene. Moreover, it has made life difficult for the likes of CM Punk and LA Knight. The faction has also had issues with Roman Reigns, Penta, Jey Uso, and Sami Zayn. Given the fact that Seth's group has ruffled several feathers so far, it's imperative for it to get back up to deal with its growing list of foes. Brock Lesnar, who is a 'Paul Heyman Guy' would make a natural ally for Seth Rollins and company. The fact that 'The Beast Incarnate' returned as a heel/villain too, suggests that this is possible. Moreover, Seth and Cena weren't exactly on the best terms, even when the latter was a heel. As such, it will make sense story-wise to have them cross paths again. This could pave the way for a massive tag match at Survivor Series, pitting The Vision and Brock Lesnar against Cena and his allies. That said, this is hypothetical as nothing has been announced officially. However, it is outside the realm of possibility. How did Seth Rollins and John Cena fare at SummerSlam 2025? SummerSlam 2025 was a memorable affair for Seth Rollins. 'The Visionary', was believed to be injured, but returned to WWE programming after CM Punk beat Gunther to capture the World Heavyweight Championship. He then revealed that he had faked his injury and cashed in his Money in the Bank contract. Seth went on to pin Punk and win the title. Cena, on the other hand, lost to Cody Rhodes but earned his respect. He then thanked the fans. This, however, did not last long as Lesnar returned and destroyed him. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now However, WWE has a firm response, and as John Cena's retirement tour is about to end with making him the face again, a worthy villain for his storyline was much needed. Following his rivalry with Cody Rhodes, a new chapter to his final saga was in the making, with Lesnar headlining the beginning of the chapter. Is Brock Lesnar the final piece of the puzzle for John Cena's WWE Farewell Tour? Yes, sort of. Here's why. John Cena has done it all, well, almost everything on his bucket list in his final tour in his professional wrestling career. He showed the world that he could be a standout heel, but the final piece of the puzzle was missing, and WWE intended to honor the wish of the future Hall of Famer. John Cena vs. CM Punk | Undisputed WWE Championship Match: Night of Champions 2025 highlights In perspective, Cena's rivalry with CM Punk was done at the Night of Champions 2025, while it was not as expected for many fans, the chapter was closed, and Cena does not have much time on his hands to extend his rivalry with his long-time pal. Then comes Cody Rhodes. The American Nightmare ended Cena's championship reign and, surprisingly, the 17-time champ turned face. John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes | WWE Title Street Fight: SummerSlam 2025 highlights Who's next? Cena certainly needed a worthy heel like Lesnar. Of course, it is fitting considering the long history between the two. Both have been at the top of the food chain, retaining their dominance over the years as A-listers. Now, Lesnar was what Cena needed to prove that his retirement tour was not going to be stale. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Lesnar made a shocking return to WWE at SummerSlam after being away for two years, attacking John Cena right after the main event. The unexpected comeback has split opinions among fans, and the reaction behind the scenes isn't much different. Some in WWE reportedly aren't happy to see him back, especially with past allegations still lingering. According to Fightful Select, there are 'very mixed emotions' backstage, though no one seems ready to stage a walkout. The move caught nearly everyone off guard, with WWE keeping Lesnar's return under wraps — even Cena's personal cameraman, Stu, had no idea. WWE was far from honoring anyone's feelings concerning The Beast's return. Paul Heyman, Lesnar's former manager and a long-time pal, hailed the move as one of the finest treats WWE fans have received in recent times. Brock Lesnar's was John Cena's biggest wish all along Brock Lesnar is BACK and CRUSHES John Cena with an F-5: SummerSlam 2025 highlights Speaking to Adam's Apple, Cena showed no bitterness toward the attack, instead embracing the moment as part of his planned goodbye. 'I've been saying the same thing for 25 years: They deal 'em, I play 'em,' he said. 'They've got to continue their programming… for the dozen of them I got left, they deal 'em, I play 'em.' His focus is on delivering for fans in the matches that remain. Triple H confirmed that facing Lesnar was at the top of Cena's 'wishlist' for his farewell run. 'This is John Cena's wishlist…it's him writing the last chapter of his book,' he said. From the start, Triple H asked, 'Who do you want, and how?'—and Lesnar was the answer. Why does Brock Lesnar's return matter? For WWE, Lesnar's presence changes the game. 'The dynamic… changes when 'The Beast' is here,' Triple H told reporters. 'Anything you thought was happening goes out the window.' Beyond the shock factor, the company views Lesnar's return as a 'massive' moment for fans who thought they'd seen the last of him. Also Read: Both Cena and Lesnar are reportedly scheduled for Friday Night SmackDown in Montreal, marking their first face-to-face since SummerSlam. That meeting will officially set the stage for what could be one of the most defining matches of Cena's career. And, it will help him close his WWE story exactly the way he envisioned.

Did Nikki Bella give WWE the okay to use her past relationship with John Cena to cut a promo with Becky Lynch?
Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella (Image via WWE) From loud cheers to a sudden silence, and then a chant of "holy sh*t" turned the fans inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, into a complete frenzy. What seemed like any other promo being cut by two divas of the wrestling promotion turned out to be very different from what anyone expected when Becky Lynch brought up Nikki Bella 's past relationship with John Cena during their segment on Monday Night RAW on August 4. But did Nikki Bella, aka Nikki Garcia, give WWE the permission to bring up such a personal matter on the show? Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella's RAW promo took an unexpected turn After her win against Lyra Valkyria at SummerSlam 2025, Becky Lynch made an appearance the next night at RAW for some good old gloating. She said that now that Lyra could not challenge her for the title anymore, she was open to new challengers. She was about to continue when none other than Nikki Bella showed up and, after a mocking congratulations, she started going off on the WWE Women's Intercontinental Champion, saying Nikki was disappointed in Lynch and the latter didn't deserve any glory. The back and forth continued for a while before Lynch dropped a bomb. Bella had made a comment on Lynch's husband, Seth Rollins , who after pretending to be injured, appeared at the end of SummerSlam Night 1. He cashed in his Money in the Bank suitcase to defeat a newly minted World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk, and took that belt and title for himself. Nikki said that both he and Lynch were liars, but The Man knew just how to shut her opponent up. "Me and my hot husband are the greatest wrestling couple of all time," she began before adding, "But, wait a minute, at one point, that would have been you and your ... oh, wait, you can't see him anymore!" Lynch, for better effect, used Cena's iconic "You Can't See Me" gesture to add insult to injury. Nikki looked visibly shocked and the crowd went wild at the mention of their past relationship. But, the important question here is: Did Nikki Bella give WWE the permission to use her personal life to cut promos or was this yet another unsanctioned mess? Did WWE have permission from Nikki Bella? While fans can't know for sure, viewers are assuming that WWE had the permission from Nikki Bella to use her personal life while cutting a promo. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pirates Climb Aboard Cargo Ship - Watch What The Captain Did Next Tips and Tricks Undo After all, fans have already seen what such unsanctioned dissing during promos can lead to. The fans, and Charlotte Flair, are yet to get over what Tiffany Stratton said back in April. The incident with Lynch wasn't even the first time that tidbits from Nikki Bella's own life were used by her opponents to add spice to their rivalry. Previously, when Nikki and Liv Morgan were supposed to start a feud before Morgan's unfortunate injury, the latter had done something similar. "I have respect, I have a championship, and I have a man," Morgan had said, mentioning Nikki's divorce to her ex-husband, Artem Chigvintsev. Given this has happened more than once, fans are assuming the diva gave her okay for the promotion to use these bits in her promos.
