Google Gemini's Android app is almost ready to roll out this basic feature

Google Gemini is arguably one of the most popular AI chatbots you will find today. Its feature set has evolved significantly over the last couple of months, thanks to new features powered by recent inclusions like Veo 3. Similarly, Google also introduced a chat search feature in recent weeks, enabling users to search their chat history with Gemini, albeit only on the web and iOS. It now looks like the feature is almost ready to land on Android smartphones. Thanks to screenshots posted by a Reddit user, we know the chat search functionality is on the way for Android. However, the feature was not live on a couple of Android devices I've checked, while comments below the Reddit thread also suggest it isn't widely available (via 9to5Google). Gemini for Android Search Chat Historyby u/JosefTor7 in Bard The search feature works exactly as you would expect, and helps you locate your older conversations with Gemini, provided you remember some of the keywords. Of course, if you use Gemini on an Apple iPhone, you can already search through your chats, which is somewhat frustrating for Android smartphone owners. There are ways to get Gemini chat search on your Android phone Meanwhile, if you can't wait to try out chat search on your Android phone, one of the simpler workarounds involves using the web version of the app, i.e., using Gemini ( from your smartphone browser. It's identical to the experience you'd get on the app, but with the inclusion of some visual changes that haven't made it to the app yet. Away from this search feature, Gemini is also working on giving its logo a bit of a glow-up to align with Google's brand identity. The updated logo currently appears in a couple of places across the Gemini app, including in the Google Play Store listing. Newer reporting suggests Google is keen on bringing the familiar blue, red, green, and yellow colors to more elements of Gemini. Earlier this week, 9to5Google dug up evidence of the onscreen Gemini overlay (triggered by long-pressing the power button) incorporating these four colors for a more consistent experience. Are you seeing the chat search option in the Gemini app? Let us know. Google Gemini Google LLC PRODUCTIVITY Price: Free 4.5 Download

Netflix just gave its reasons for using generative AI in a TV show — and it could be a watershed moment

AI video has come a long way in recent years. As the quality has risen, so have people's concerns about its implications for the creative industries. Now, it looks like the tech is making its way further into Hollywood with Netflix giving it its blessing. In an earnings call, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos opened up on how the Netflix team behind the TV show The Eternaut utilised AI to speed up the production process. The use of AI appears in one scene in the show. It depicts a building collapsing and was made in collaboration between Netflix's internal production team and a group of producers using AI to help create the scene. Sarandos claimed that, through the use of AI, the scene was completed 10 times faster than would have been possible with traditional tools. It was also done at a much lower cost. Through the use of AI, the scene was completed 10 times faster than would have been possible with traditional tools. It was also done at a much lower cost. 'We remain convinced that AI represents an incredible opportunity to help creators make films and series better, not just cheaper. There are AI-powered creator tools. So this is real people doing real work with better tools,' Sarandos said during the call. 'Our creators are already seeing the benefits in production through pre-visualization and shot-planning work, and certainly visual effects. It used to be that only big-budget projects would have access to advanced visual effects like de-aging.' Netflix's other CEO, Greg Peters, has also said that the company is using generative AI in other parts of the business. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. This includes personalization, search and advertisements. However, this is the first time Netflix has publicly used AI in the production of one of its shows. Just a few years ago, the quality of AI video was so poor that any reasonable person would have spotted it in a TV show or film. However, that is no longer the case. The likes of Google's Veo 3 have shown how far not just AI video has come but even AI audio generation. Recently, the first copyright-free AI video generator was announced. It claimed to be able to produce AI video at movie-level quality and aimed to help movie makers speed up the production process and reduce costs. While it is not clear which AI software Netflix used in this process, the quality was high enough to be undetectable. Netflix has seemingly become pretty comfortable with the use of AI. It uses AI art generators for the intro of its Marvel TV show Secret Invasion, and has been rolling out AI features across different parts of its platform. Based on the success of this latest project, and the company's positive attitude towards it, I wouldn't be surprised to see Netflix delve deeper into the use of AI in future projects. Seoul palace AI flood video spotlights South Korea's deepfake deluge

A hyperrealistic, AI-generated video depicting Seoul's historic Gyeongbokgung Palace submerged under floodwaters has fuelled fresh alarm over the power of artificial intelligence to fabricate and spread misinformation. The viral clip, first shared by the YouTube channel 'Golpadak', opens with a man in a yellow raincoat standing before the former royal palace. 'Wow, the rain is incredible,' he remarks, gesturing towards what appears to be ankle-deep water. 'Gyeongbokgung is completely flooded.' Moments later, the video cuts to scenes of people desperately bailing water with plastic buckets, before panning to a seal gliding across the palace courtyard. 'Wait – is that a seal? Oh my gosh, a seal!' the narrator exclaims, betraying the satirical undertone of the footage. Despite the obvious absurdity of some details, the timing of the video's release – amid a week of record-breaking monsoon rains in South Korea – convinced some viewers it was genuine. Play 'People who make fake videos just to confuse others should be held accountable,' one user commented, reflecting a wave of public unease. The Korea Herald reported that the video was created with Veo 3, Google's latest AI video generation model, known for its ability to produce convincingly realistic images and dialogue. Dozens of similar AI-generated videos about South Korea's floods have proliferated across YouTube, the outlet noted.

Flooded Gyeongbokgung video sparks concern over AI-generated misinformation

A video that appears to show Seoul's historic main palace Gyeongbokgung submerged in floodwater has sparked confusion online, along with renewed concerns about the dangers of artificial intelligence's role in the generation of misinformation. In the clip, a man in a yellow raincoat wades in front of the palace, gesturing toward ankle-deep water. 'It's unbelievable,' he said in the video. 'Gyeongbokgung is completely underwater.' The video gained traction as South Korea reels from days of record-breaking rain that triggered deadly floods and widespread damage, making the fabricated footage seem all the more believable. The incident has also prompted calls for stronger regulation of AI-generated content. 'People who make fake videos just to confuse others should be held accountable,' one commenter wrote. Others urged for legal safeguards to keep pace with the rapid development of AI, pointing out that this is not an isolated case. As of Monday morning, a search on YouTube using Korean keywords such as 'monsoon' or 'flood,' along with the names of AI video tools like Google's Veo 3, reveals a growing number of similar clips. According to information technology industry insiders, since the release of Veo 3 in May, producing realistic-looking videos like these has become significantly easier. The Gyeongbokgung clip was created using this tool. In response to rising concerns, a new law requiring watermarks on AI-generated videos is set to take effect in January next year.
