(Photo by Scott A Garfitt/Invision/AP, File) NEW YORK — Look what you made her do — Taylor Swift has announced her 12th studio album, 'The Life of a Showgirl.' Swift announced the album on her website shortly after a countdown timer expired at 12:12 a.m. Tuesday. No release date was announced, but her site said vinyl editions of the album would ship before Oct. 13. Fans have long theorized that Swift's 12th album would soon arrive. On Monday, Taylor Nation — an official branch of the pop superstar's marketing team — posted a TikTok slide show of 12 images with the caption 'Thinking about when she said 'See you next era…'' Swift is seen wearing orange in every image. A special limited vinyl edition of the album will be released in 'Portofino orange glitter,' according to a pre-order page on her site. A special cassette edition is also available for pre-order. Sensing a pattern, eagle-eyed fans noticed that 12 minutes earlier, the popular 'New Heights' podcast posted a tease for Wednesday. The show, hosted by Swift's boyfriend and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce alongside his brother, former Eagles center Jason Kelce, posted an orange image on social media with a mysterious silhouette, many believing to be Swift. The podcast announced early early Tuesday that Swift would would appear on 'New Heights' and a teaser video posted about her appearance showed her pulling the album from a briefcase. The actual album artwork, just as it is on her website, is blurred. 'The Life of a Showgirl' follows last year's 'The Tortured Poets Department,' announced during the 2024 Grammys and released during her record-breaking tour, which raked in over $2.2 billion across two years and five continents, making it the highest-grossing tour of all time. The album is also her first release since Swift regained control over her entire body of work. In May, that pop star said she purchased her catalog of recordings — originally released through Big Machine Records — from their most recent owner, the private equity firm Shamrock Capital. She did not disclose the amount. In recent years, Swift has been rerecording and releasing her first six albums in an attempt to regain control of her music. The project was instigated by Hybe America CEO Scooter Braun's purchase and sale of her early catalog and represents Swift's effort to control her own songs and how they're used. Previous 'Taylor's Version' releases have been more than conventional re-recordings, arriving with new 'from the vault' music, Easter eggs and visuals that deepen understanding of her work. So far, there have been four rerecorded albums, beginning with 'Fearless (Taylor's Version)' and 'Red (Taylor's Version)' in 2021. All four have been massive commercial and cultural successes, each one debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Swift's last rerecording, '1989 (Taylor's Version),' arrived in October 2023, just four months after the release of 'Speak Now (Taylor's Version).' That was the same year Swift claimed the record for the woman with the most No. 1 albums in history. Maria Sherman, The Associated Press

Anthony Joshua responds to Andre Ward callout with playful jibe
Anthony Joshua has reacted to Andre Ward 's callout this week, offering a playful response to the unbeaten former world champion. American star Ward, now 41, retired with a perfect record of 32-0 (16 KOs) in 2017, having held unified world titles at super-middleweight and light-heavyweight. And having teased a comeback fight for the right payday in recent years, Ward has now turned his attention to Joshua. Ward said in an Instagram video this week: 'One name that I've brought up before, that... when you say that name, I could see myself fighting him – present day today, if the business was right and everything was right on that front... Me and Anthony Joshua. 'That's a fight that I would take at Wembley Stadium. It's a dangerous fight for my legacy, it's a dangerous fight across the board, but that's a fight that would get me in the gym and get me in the mindset that I need to be in to go to war.' And Joshua, 35, has noted Ward's callout, commenting on the American's Instagram post: 'Pay Day Pay Day ( Canelo voice )'. The Briton was referencing Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, the reigning undisputed super-middleweight champion, who has taunted various prospective opponents over the years by saying they want the 'pay day' that comes with fighting him. Ward is considered a modern great, but he would have to turn back the clock and reach a career-highest weight to box Joshua. 'AJ', since turning professional after winning Olympic gold in 2012, has exclusively fought at heavyweight. In that division, he is a former two-time world champion. Most recently, however, Joshua failed to regain world-champion status, as he was knocked out by then-IBF champion Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September. AJ has since undergone elbow surgery, and his next fight date and opponent are unclear. Ward retired in 2017 on the back of a stoppage win over Sergey Kovalev, having outpointed the Russian in each man's previous bout. With those victories, Ward won then retained the WBA, WBO and IBF light-heavyweight titles.

The band will perform at Wembley Stadium on 10th and 11th July 2026, with tickets going on sale this Friday. The rock group, which first formed in 2001, became a genre-defining group in the emo era with their album Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge in 2004. Their iconic status was then cemented with the multi-platinum selling album, The Black Parade, in 2006 – a concept album that followed a man's journey to the afterlife. The band initially split in 2013, but reformed in 2019 for a string of special shows. They officially returned to the road for a new tour earlier this year. 'Long Live: The Black Parade' celebrates the album's 20th anniversary, and features a grand spectacle where lead singer Gerard is depicted as a fascist-style leader. The band will perform the titular album in its entirety – before following it up with a second set of hits from their other four albums. MCR have released four albums to date – 2001 debut I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love; Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge; The Black Parade and finally, Danger Days: The True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys in 2010. But on top of that they have released collections of recordings, Conventional Weapons, as well as bonus tracks and specials on their Greatest Hits album. Since that point, each have gone on to work on other projects, with Gerard notably helping create Netflix series The Umbrella Academy, based on a comic book he created by Gabriel Bá. Rhythm guitarist Frank Iero has been on tour as frontman of a string of other bands, while lead guitarist Ray Toro has released his own solo material and joined other groups for album recordings – including Reggie and The Full Effect and Voltaire. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday 15th August, and will be available here. 5 5

Liverpool pays seemingly otherwordly tribute to Diogo Jota in first competitive match since the forward's death aged 28
Liverpool paid an emotional tribute to its late forward Diogo Jota on Sunday in the club's first competitive match since his death in July, as Jeremie Frimpong scored a bizarre goal in the 20th minute of the game, just as fans were applauding in memory of Jota, who wore the number 20 on his jersey. The Reds eventually lost their Community Shield clash against Crystal Palace on penalties at Wembley Stadium on a day that had both planned and seemingly otherworldly tributes to Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, who both died in a car crash in July. Ahead of the match, Liverpool intended to observe a minute's silence in memory of the two brothers who died on July 3 after their car came off the road following a burst tire and subsequently went up in flames in the early hours of the morning. As the players lined up, though, a few boos and shouts rang out from the otherwise quiet crowd meaning that the moment was cut short. Before the game too, Liverpool icon Ian Rush, Crystal Palace co-owner Steve Parish and FA chair Debbie Hewitt laid wreaths beside the pitch while Liverpool fans sang the club's anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone.' But it was during the 20th minute, as fans were applauding to remember Jota, that the most fitting tribute came. Frimpong collected Dominik Szoboszlai's floated pass downfield on the right hand side of the box, jagged in past the Palace defense and chipped the ball towards the far post, over the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Dean Henderson and into the net to score 20 minutes and 20 seconds into the game. That gave Liverpool a 2-1 lead after Palace had equalized following Hugo Ekitiké's goal in the fourth minute. Palace equalized again in the 77th minute through Ismaila Sarr and the match ended 2-2, meaning that penalties would decide the winner of this year's Community Shield. The penalty kicks lacked the quality that was on display throughout the 90 minutes with Crystal Palace eventually taking the shootout 3-2. Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson was the star of the shootout for the Eagles and saved two of the Liverpool spot kicks, with Mohamed Salah also blazing over from 12 yards. Throughout its preseason, Liverpool has remembered Jota who, at 28, was still in the prime of his career and a key player for the Reds. The club has retired his number 20 jersey across all its teams and laid wreaths in memory of him during its first preseason game against Preston North End last month.

INXS stars reveal the bloated celebrity guest list and backstage blowout at epic Wembley Stadium gig that cost the band their entire $7 million dollar payday
Members of legendary Australian rock band INXS have revealed how the band lost millions over their legendary gig at London's Wembley Stadium in 1991. Despite selling out the gig, which had a live audience of 74,000, almost all of the money made at the box office for the show was gone before the band even took to the stage. The cash, £1.4 million GBP or $7 million AUD in today's money, was spent on funding a film of the concert. The decision was made by the six-piece band's manager, Gary Murphy, who hired a famous British music video director, David Mallet, to direct it. Still, according to INXS members Jon Farriss and Kirk Pengilly, the event and the ensuing film were worth it. It helped to cement the band's reputation in the notoriously difficult UK market, where they had scored two hit albums in a row, X in 1990 and 1987's Kick. Despised by UK critics and adored by fans drawn to the saucy stage presence of the lead singer, the late Michael Hutchence, Farrisssaid the band had the last laugh. 'That tall poppy thing, I think we were one of the first bands to experience it on that level,' Farriss, 64, told the Courier-Mail on Sunday. 'We taught ourselves to stay quiet about it, we just wouldn't talk about it.' Elsewhere in the chat, the veteran rockers revealed the band had a 'guest list' for the Wembley gig, numbering a staggering 3000 people. Among the A-listers there for the show was former Hutchence girlfriend Kylie Minogue and then pop superstars Duran Duran. 'Yeah, I heard it was over 2,000, closer to 3,000 people,' Pengilly, 65, said. 'Apparently it was insane. I didn't know any of them. But, you know, it was London, (therefore), it was celebrities.' It comes after never-before-heard INXS demos, featuring vocals from late frontman Michael Hutchence, were released earlier this year. The tracks are part of the 40th anniversary reissue of the iconic band's 1985 album Listen Like Thieves, which reached number one in Australia. Among the unreleased songs is a candid studio moment where Hutchence's charismatic voice echoes through early takes of their '80s hit track This Time. INXS saxophonist Pengilly said compiling the tracklist was a moving experience. 'I did get emotional with this, because there were some out-takes of the banter between us all,' he told The Daily Telegraph. 'But we didn't keep a lot of that stuff, so I was really surprised when the tapes turned up. So this is pretty special, a real time capsule.' The band conquered the world with their 1985 album, which reached number 11 on the US Billboard chart and went double platinum there. It also charted in New Zealand, the UK and Canada. It featured their first US top five single, What You Need, as well as the hit songs Kiss the Dirt (Falling Down the Mountain) and the title track. The rockers continued to perform with singer Michael Hutchence until his tragic death in Sydney in 1997, where he died by suicide in a hotel room. The Australian group were one of the world's most successful rock bands in the late '80s. Following their formation in 1977, they stormed the charts with songs including Need You Tonight, Good Times, New Sensation and Kick. They are one of Australia's highest-selling bands of all time, with over 50 million albums sold worldwide. Their 2011 greatest hits album has spent a record 623 weeks on the ARIA top 100 albums chart. Its success followed the release of the 2014 Channel Seven mini-series about the band called Never Tear Us Apart. The band split after 35 years together in 2012, although its surviving members continue to reunite for special events.
