Matt Lucas has raised health concerns among fans after apologising for his performance in Les Misérables on May 15. The actor, comedian, writer, and TV host, known for his work with David Walliams on 'Little Britain' and as a host on Great British Bake Off, is currently starring as Monsieur Thénardier in the Australian production of Les Misérables.
However, he was forced to exit the stage mid-performance, prompting him to explain the situation to his fans on Instagram. Posting on his @realmattlucas page, Matt shared a carefully worded message alongside a photo. He expressed his enjoyment of the show, stating: "I've been having a magical time in Les Misérables in arenas across Sydney and Melbourne."
However, he revealed that he had to bow out of the performance due to vocal issues, saying: "In over 30 years, I've never had to bow out of a performance, but tonight, as I was singing Master Of The House, I could feel my voice deserting me."
Matt explained that fellow actor Connor James took over the role of Thénardier in the second act, explaining that's why his character looked so different in the second half of the performance. He is currently resting in bed, hoping to return to the stage soon.
Although he didn't specify the exact nature of his health issue, it clearly affected his voice and performance, prompting a flood of get-well messages from concerned fans in the comments.
Someone penned: "Aww, take care of yourself, Matt. Rest yourself and come back strong again!"
Another voiced their concern: "Oh no! We are only human. Take care of your voice."
A third sympathiser remarked: "Matt, that's rotten for you. Make sure you take care and rest."
Meanwhile, a fourth well-wisher expressed: "Wish you better. Take it easy."
Who is Matt playing in Les Misérables?
The devious Thénardier features as a central villain in Les Misérables, serving as a dishonest innkeeper who thrives on the suffering of others, including his partner in crime, Madame Thénardier.
Initially, they exploit the despairing mother Fantine by deceitfully agreeing to look after her daughter, Cosette, in return for money.
Yet, behind closed doors, they enforce a life of enslavement and maltreatment upon Cosette, all the while bleeding Fantine dry through their fabricated hardships.
Personified with a blend of conniving wit and opportunistic thievery, Thénardier pursues wealth by any disreputable means necessary, even if those paths lead to burglary or extortion.
His journey across the narrative sees an escalation in criminal enterprises, capturing Thénardier's essence as both humorous and heinous.
Thénardier incarnates the depths of human vices – greed and self-interest – forming a sharp divergence from the prevailing notions of kindness, sacrifice, and atonement that permeate the tale.

'3 families, 3 fascinating episodes, you're gonna love it.' While some were 'interested' by the idea of seeing Lily on their screens, others were stunned to see the show giving Lily, who recently sparked outrage after posting with her 'oldest fan' in a 'vile' stunt, a platform. The post has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 3,646 likes and 67 comments. One person gasped: 'Pretty grim giving that deviant airtime, not a single positive thing can come from the trainwreck of her life, screams if the worst click bait, expected better tbh.' Whilst another sighed: 'Really disappointing, just don't think Stacey Dooley should be promoting or giving this girl a platform. But adult film star Jasmin St. Claire - who's most famous for having sex with 300 men in 24 hours for X-rated 1996 film The World's Biggest G**g Bang II - has issued a word of warning to the 23-year-old to ensure she's regularly tested for sexually transmitted diseases. "I get a lot of OnlyFans girls on my podcast ... and the one common story is all of the different STD outbreaks in the business," Jasmin explained. "Like, I've never heard of half this stuff in my life. I'm like, holy s**t. Can a doctor from India cure that? "Like, seriously, because these are some weird things." 'We've got another three episodes that you're gonna love! The themes we touch on feel incredibly timely. 'As always, a sincere thank you to those families who agree to open their doors. Strap in!' MAFS Australia couples from all 12 seasons who are now legally married - the amount might surprise you
Over 100 couples have starred on the Australian version of Married at first Sight but how many of them are actually married in real life? Since its debut on the Nine Network in May 2015, Married At First Sight Australia has matched over 100 couples. While a handful of those relationship have gone the distance, fans might be surprised to hear that only three couples have taken the leap to become legally married. Although the show features wedding-style ceremonies where participants meet and exchanged vows at the alter, there unions aren't legal - as under the Australian Marriage Act, couples must give at least one month and one day's notice before tying the knot. As this is impossible under the show's surprise matchmaking format the ceremonies on MAFS are symbolic. Instead, the couples declare their commitment to one another in front of their close friends and family, so once filming ends they are only considered boyfriend and girlfriend. While several pairs have stayed together after the cameras stopped rolling, only a select few have chosen to make their relationship official in the eyes of the law. With just three couples legally tying the knot - to date - after leaving the show. So who are the MAFSAU couple's that have tied the knot in real life... Cameron Merchant and Jules Robinson Cameron Merchant and Jules Robinson were the power couple of season six, and wasted no time tying the knot after appearing on the show back in 2019. Cameron got down on one knee during the season finale and the pair got married quickly after in November 2019, at a gorgeous ceremony in Sydney. Following their engagement Jules wrote on Instagram: "The moment you fall more in love than you thought you could fall and every little part of you says YES! I have nothing but love for this man." Fast forward six years and the couple have welcomed two sons together, their first Oliver was born in 2020 and they welcomed baby Carter into the world in July of last year. Melissa Rawson and Bryce Ruthven Melissa Rawson and Bryce Ruthven were one of the most talked about couples on season eight, with viewers failing to see the pair last outside the show. At the time there was a rumour that radio host Bryce had a secret girlfriend during filming, however Melissa spoke to the woman and said she had no concerns. Despite everyones doubts, the pair stuck it out and proved everyone wrong, going on to make their marriage official in the eyes of the law. The pair went on to had twins, two little boys Levi and Tate back in 2021 and were engaged soon after. They officially tied the knot in February of 2023 in an adorable beach ceremony in Sorrento, Victoria. Johnny Balbuziente and Kelly Knight In 2021, intruder couple, Johnny Balbuziente and Kelly Knight joined the experiment and it was love at first sight for the couple who were clearly smitten upon meeting on their wedding day on the show. Although they went on to have their fair share of ups and downs, but proved they were stronger than that as Jonny proposed to Kelly on their second anniversary. The pair got married in an intimate ceremony back in January of 2023. They shared photos from their big day, with the caption: "[ring emoji] MR & MRS BALBUZIENTE [ring emoji] 05.01.23" Kelly and Johnny have went on to welcome their first child, a daughter named Chloe Rossi Balbuziente, in July 2024.
