Deadly downtown Myrtle Beach shooting between customer, employee. 1 arrested
A 17-year-old employee at Peaches Corner has been charged in a shooting death that happened at the restaurant Friday night.
Myrtle Beach Police Chief Amy Prock said during a press conference Saturday afternoon that the Conway teen Evany McCray allegedly shot and killed the person. The victim has not been named.
Prock said the youth curfew is being 'reevaluated at this time.'
The current youth curfew is from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. for those under 18.
Saturday afternoon, Prock offered more information about the incident, and bond was set for the suspect.
It appears that the employee got into a verbal fight with the victim who walked into the restaurant. The person who was injured was outside on the crosswalk.
This shooting is the third to take place in Myrtle Beach's Ocean Boulevard tourist section within months. In April, a mass shooting injured 11 people and killed one, and earlier this month, another shooting near Peaches Corner left one person injured from a gunshot.
According to Myrtle Beach Police, Friday's shooting came as a result of an altercation between an employee at the restaurant and another person at about 11:15 p.m. Two people suffered gunshot wounds. One died and the other was transported to the hospital for a non-life threatening injury.
The person who suffered non-life threatening injuries was in the crosswalk near the business when they were hit. No further information was shared about the victims of the shooting.
The teen's bond hearing took place on Saturday afternoon, during which the judge offered no bond on a charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, a bond of $250,000 for possession of a weapon during the violent crime, and a bond of $250,000 for a charge of possession of a weapon by a minor. McCray was also charged with murder. This charge was sent to the High Court for bond setting.
Police Lt. Allen Amick said that Myrtle Beach police were already patrolling the area when the incident took place, and responded 'within seconds' when shots were fired.
Prock said that violence like this is a nationwide issue, and that not only are there some 'mitigating' factors that must be examined with open carry laws, but that adults need to secure weapons in the home.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, police said.

Michigan man, 24, electrocuted, falls 30 feet from boom lift, police say
A 24-year-old Wayland, Michigan, man died after coming into contact with live electrical lines and falling 30 feet from a boom lift Saturday in Ludington, according to police. Ludington police responded to the area of West Ludington Avenue and Robert Street around 10:15 a.m. Saturday, for a report of a person being electrocuted and falling off a building. When officers arrived, they found the man unresponsive and not breathing. Ludington police, along with members of the Mason County Sheriff's Office and two bystanders, attempted lifesaving efforts until firefighters and paramedics arrived. The man was taken to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said. Police say the man was operating a boom lift when, for unknown reasons, the lift and the man came into contact with live electrical lines, causing the man to fall approximately 30 feet. The man was employed by a gutter installation company based in the Ada area, according to police, and they are investigating the incident as a fatal industrial accident. Man charged with murder after stabbing inside Middleboro, Massachusetts home
One person was killed and a second person is charged with murder after a fight and stabbing inside a Middleboro, Massachusetts home Saturday night. It happened around 8 p.m. inside a home on Fairview Street. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said on Sunday that 41-year-old Andrew Horsman has been identified as the suspect and was taken into custody without incident not far from the home. Horsman is charged with one count of murder. Cruz identified the victim as 66-year-old Paul Pomerleau. According to investigators, Pomerleau was stabbed multiple times. He was rushed to Morton Hospital, but pronounced dead within an hour of the violent incident. According to the district attorney, Pomerleau was in a long-term relationship with Horsman's mother. Witnesses told detectives that an argument at the home led up to the deadly stabbing. Horsman is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Wareham District Court. No further information is currently available. Middleboro is a town of about 24,000 people located nearly 40 miles south of Boston.

NBA free agent Malik Beasley is under investigation by the U.S. District Attorney's office regarding gambling allegations tied to league games, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Sunday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment on the matter. 'We are cooperating with the federal prosecutors' investigation,' NBA spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement released to the AP and other outlets on Sunday. ESPN was the first to report on the investigation. 'There have been no charges against Malik,' Steve Haney, Beasley's attorney, told the AP. 'It's just an investigation at this point. We hope people reserve judgement until he's charged — or if he's charged. It's not uncommon for there to be a federal investigation.' The probe into Beasley comes 14 months after the NBA banned Toronto's Jontay Porter, who was linked to a prop bet investigation and eventually pleaded guilty to committing wire fraud.
