John Cena never takes his phone out on date nights.
John Cena leaves his phone at home for date nights.
The WWE legend turned Hollywood actor - who is married to Shay Shariatzadeh - has opened up on his dating tips, and insisted his outlook "can be so simple".
He told Us Weekly: "Honestly, it can be so simple. I was just telling a lady who asked what makes me swoon... I think it's just being there.
"Fun things I do on date night? Put your f'n phone at home. Not in your pocket, I don't even bring it with me. You only need one person to dial 911.
"So... only one phone, that way we're both present, and when you're there, you're there."
The 48-year-old star also urged people to be honest if you don't feel in the right "headspace" for a date.
He added: "If your mind is scattered and you're not ready yet, take a five minute [break], tell your partner or the person you're with, 'Man, I don't know if I'm in the headspace to be here.'
"But when you're there, you're there. So, I'm going to do all these 'talky bits' and then when I turn the corner, it is date night."
The 'Heads of State' star was speaking at Amazon's Upfront event this week, and he revealed even that was an occasion for him and his wife.
He told E! News: "We try to make a date out of all these things. She's here and we're going to have some fun."
John rarely talks about Shay, 36, and while they're frequently seen together on red carpets, they keep a lot of their private live under wraps.
Appearing on Dax Shepard's 'Armchair Expert' podcast a year ago, he explained: "I certainly value her safety and well-being.
"One of the promises I made to her on the altar was, 'I will do my best not to put you in any undue harm's way.'
"It's not to say that everyone out there has bad intentions or we'd ever run into someone bad, but you also never know when someone feels threatened."
He previously insisted their personal life is for their "inner circle", which benefits their relationship.
He told 'Today' in 2023: "We have core values which we both believe in, and one of those is keeping our information to us and those extremely close to our inner circle.
"I couldn't be happier, but I think a way for us to keep our intimacy is by keeping it intimate."

Brad Pitt 'misses the window' to have a 'gay experience'
Brad Pitt has "missed the window" to have a "gay experience". The 61-year-old actor - who is currently dating 32-year-old jewellery executive Ines de Ramon - believes his chance to spend some intimate time with another man is long gone. Speaking on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast, he said: "You know, I've never had a gay experience. "I kind of missed that window." However, if Brad does ever indulge in a homosexual experience, the star joked he's unlikely to pick podcast host Dax. Brad quipped: "But if I did, it wouldn't be you." The Bullet Train actor has been married twice before, but both ended in divorce. He wed actress Angelina Jolie in 2014, but they split in 2019 and their divorce was finalised in 2024. Brad was also married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston from 2000 to 2005. In 2018, Gus Van Sant, who had been due to direct Brokeback Mountain, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger as two homosexual cowboys, revealed Brad, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, and Ryan Phillippe all rejected the chance to appear in the motion picture. Speaking to Indiewire, he said: "Nobody wanted to do it. I was working on it, and I felt like we needed a really strong cast, like a famous cast. "That wasn't working out. I asked the usual suspects: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Ryan Phillippe. They all said no. "What I could have done, and what I probably should have done, was cast more unknowns, not worried about who were the lead actors. "I was not ready. I'm not sure why. There was just sort of a hiccup on my part. There was something off with myself, I guess, whatever was going on." The movie - which was eventually helmed by Ang Lee - broke barriers for casting heterosexual actors Gyllenhaal and Ledger as the two main characters, Jack Twist and Ennis Del Mar.

John Cena reveals inspiration behind his Heads of State president character
John Cena didn't base his Heads of State character on any specific presidents. The 48-year-old WWE legend stars as fictional action movie star turned US President Will Derringer in Ilya Naishuller's new blockbuster, and he insisted a lot of the characterisation came from a simple place. He told Extra: "When you attach a name like the President of the United States, just when I say those words, everyone has a vision of what that means to them. "And then you read the script and you take terms like aloof, super positive, really stubborn, overly aggressive, like, I can take those personality traits and put together an idea what I think we should look like, and then the last secret sauce is be coachable. "When the director comes up and is like, 'Hey, all those ideas, throw them out. Let's try one like this.' As long as you're coachable, we'll end up getting what the director wants, which is hopefully the best movie.' The movie stars Cena as Derringer alongside Idris Elba as former SAS-trained commando turned UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke. Together, the two world leaders must put aside their own rivalry to tackle a global conspiracy after they're targeted by various foreign adversaries. The movie also stars the like of Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jack Quaid, Paddy Considine and more. Cena admitted his professional wrestling experience has given him a greater understanding of "defining your character". He explained: 'I think it's all in the writing, and I think what's important about Heads of State is... I know in WWE, I always relate everything back to that. "You want to be able to define your character as soon as possible. "When the music hits and you come through the curtain, if somebody can be like, 'Oh, that's this guy, like, the Undertaker, that's the Dead Mortician, Stone Cold Steve Austin' — you know who they are." Meanwhile, Cena insisted he doesn't like to think about what kind of role he wants to play next. He added: 'I don't approach life like that. I don't want to set expectations for myself of things I don't control. "Things I can control are how I react to the opportunities I'm given in life, so if something comes my way that I think will push me out of my comfort zone within reason and something that it's, you know, it's a stretch goal that's attainable, I'd love to give it a try.'

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and fiancee Lauren Sanchez move wedding amid Venice backlash
A celebrity wedding party for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and journalist Lauren Sanchez in Venice this week has been moved to an isolated, less accessible part of the lagoon city on security concerns and to prevent the risk of protests, sources say. The billionaire tech-tycoon and his fiancee had earmarked a location in Cannaregio to celebrate after their wedding, a popular and central nightlife area, but fears of demonstrations led to a change of plan, the sources added. For weeks some local residents and pressure groups have been complaining that the event will turn the scenic city of gondolas and palazzi into a private amusement park for the rich and threatened peaceful blockades. After the wedding ceremony, whose location and exact date remain secret, although it is expected to be between Thursday and Saturday, about 200-250 VIP guests from show business, politics and finance will now head to a hall of the Arsenale, a vast 14th-century complex in the eastern Castello district. Surrounded by water and impossible to reach by land when connecting bridges are raised, the hall is considered a safer venue than Cannaregio's Scuola Grande della Misericordia, a medieval former religious school. Originally a giant shipyard serving the Venetian Republic's maritime empire, the Arsenale has been restored and converted into an exhibition space for the Venice Biennale art fair. Bezos, 61, executive chair of e-commerce giant Amazon and No.4 on Forbes' billionaires list, got engaged to Sanchez, 55, in 2023, four years after the collapse of his 25-year marriage to Mackenzie Scott. The couple's decision to marry in Venice follows other celebrity weddings in the floating city, such as that of US actor George Clooney and human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin in 2014. 'The news that Bezos has run away from the Misericordia is a great victory for us,' said Tommaso Cacciari, a leader of the 'No Space for Bezos' campaign that is leading the anti-wedding front. The group has announced more protests for Saturday on Venice's canals, bridges and narrow streets, pledging to make the event a 'nightmare' for Bezos and his guests. Luca Zaia, president of the Veneto region that comprises the city, criticised the protests, saying the 90 private jets carrying guests to nearby airports would bring revenue of up to 48 million euros ($85.46 million) to local businesses. US President Donald Trump 's daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner, who have been holidaying in Tuscany, visited the factory of luxury sports car maker Ferrari on their way to the Venice wedding, a source familiar with their movements said.
