Joining us on this episode of our Select mix series is the one and only Cheb Runner. A musical hurricane rooted in Moroccan soil, Cheb Runner is a DJ, composer and producer who represents a new sound of in-betweenness, nurtured by a diverse array of musical influences that run back and forth in time. His sets often feature first-hand recordings from his expansive sample pack of traditional instrumentals.
In addition to being a fixture at some of the biggest clubs and festivals across Europe, Cheb Runner is a resident at Ghana's Oroko Radio, a familiar face at Brussels' finest Kiosk Radio, and part of Rotterdam's (A)WAKE collective. Most recently, he has also joined the Brussels-based Not Your Techno family.
For his select set, Cheb Runner delivers a playful analog mix, supported by a unique set of synthesisers, where traditional Maghrebi sounds and shaabi rhythms pulse through deep techno, disco and Dutch gabber.

The Triumph of Horus to open 32nd Cairo Int'l Festival for Experimental Theatre - Stage & Street - Arts & Culture
The 32nd Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre (CIFET) will open with The Triumph of Horus, an ancient Egyptian sacred drama often described as one of the earliest, if not oldest, ceremonial dramatic texts known to humanity. The ritual, rooted in Edfu in Upper Egypt, reenacts the mythological victory of Horus and celebrates his divine kingship. Structured as a prologue, three acts, and an epilogue, it is considered an early example of Egyptian theatrical forms fused with myth and ritual. The staging for CIFET's opening ceremony will be directed and choreographed by Walid Aouni, the Cairo-based Lebanese choreographer honoured at last year's 31st edition for more than three decades of work in Egypt's modern dance and theatre scene. Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre Launched in 1988 by then-culture minister Farouk Hosny, CIFET has long been one of Egypt's most significant cultural events, designed to place Cairo on the international theatre map. The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture. For its first two decades, the festival ran over 10 days each September, attracting dozens of Arab and international troupes for awards — at its peak in the late 2000s, CIFET was hosting 40 to 50 performances across multiple venues in Cairo and beyond. The event was suspended for five years after the January 2011 revolution, before returning in 2016 under Sameh Mahran as its president. Renamed the Cairo International Festival for Contemporary and Experimental Theatre (CIFCET), it adopted a smaller programme, a shorter run, and dropped its competitive format. In 2020, during its 27th edition, the festival reverted to its original name and reinstated competition under the late theatre academic and playwright Alaa Abdel-Aziz. Mahran returned as CIFET president in 2023. The 32nd edition of CIFET will run from 1 to 8 September, with the full programme still to be announced. Diriyah Biennale 2026 Returns with Global Curatorial Team
The 2026 Diriyah Biennale will feature new commissions and an expanded curatorial team in Riyadh's JAX District. The Diriyah Biennale Foundation has announced that the third edition of the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale will open on January 30th, 2026, in Riyadh's JAX District, with an expanded curatorial team bringing new international perspectives. Artistic direction will be jointly led by Nora Razian, Deputy Director and Head of Exhibitions and Programmes at Art Jameel, and Sabih Ahmed, curator and Projects Advisor at the Ishara Art Foundation. They will be joined by novelist and Ma3azef co-founder Maan Abu Taleb, curator May Makki, former Kunsthalle Bern director Kabelo Malatsie, Dubai-based multimedia artist Lantian Xie, and Milan-based Sammy Zarka, who will serve as Associate Architect and Exhibition Designer. The expanded team reflects the Biennale's vision where disciplines from literature and music to architecture and performance intersect. Aya Al-Bakree, CEO of the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, said the diverse backgrounds of the curators will create 'new pathways for artists and audiences in Saudi Arabia.' The 2026 edition will feature commissioned and existing works by both Saudi and international artists, staged across newly activated industrial heritage spaces in the JAX District.

Ministry of Culture Expands Maha Gamil's Aswan Gold Murals Nationwide
The Ministry of Culture has adopted Maha Gamil's Aswan Gold mural project, expanding the urban art initiative to governorates beyond Aswan. Aug 20, 2025 Maha Gamil, the Aswan-based street artist whose vibrant murals have recently gone viral, has been commissioned by Egypt's Ministry of Culture to lead a nationwide public art campaign. The initiative, inspired by Gamil's collaborative work with her husband, Ali Abdelfattah, and their celebrated 'Aswan Gold' murals, aims to bring locally rooted, large-scale urban art to cities across the country. The Ministry of Culture announced that it will adopt the project to beautify urban facades and highlight Egyptian identity, with plans to expand it across the governorates. Minister of Culture Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hano emphasised that the initiative will focus on tourist destinations, allowing each region to showcase its unique heritage. Gamil's artistic journey began in 2011 while she was a Fine Arts student. Defying societal norms that discouraged women from painting public walls, she began working under the cover of night, supported by friends as lookouts. Her breakthrough came when locals defended her early work, affirming its value within the community.
