Posters of Owaisi with slogans
Owaisi's flex boards featured several slogans, including 'One man against terror, one truth against Pakistan, exposing the enemy within, for India, with pride.'
During their visit, the delegation briefed international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, highlighting the broader fight against cross-border terrorism while engaged with leaders in key countries.
During his visit to Algeria, AIMIM chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi lambasted Pakistan, calling it an 'epicentre of Takfirism.'
Addressing the Algerian media, members of think tanks and the Indian diaspora, Owaisi said that there is no ideological difference between the terrorist groups in Pakistan and Daesh and Al-Qaeda.
'Pakistan is the epicentre of Takfirism, and there is no difference in ideology between the terrorist groups in Pakistan and Daesh and Al-Qaeda. They believe that they have a religious sanction, which is completely wrong. Islam does not allow the killing of any person, and unfortunately, that is their ideology.'
Owaisi further reiterated his demand to put Pakistan back on the Grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
'Terrorism survives on two things - ideology and money. Ideology, you know very well, you have seen the Black Decade, even in South Algeria, you still have some problems. On that point, we are together... Once you bring Pakistan back in the Grey list (of FATF), we will see a decrease in terrorism in India. We'll see killings coming down. We have the 2018 experience when Algeria and other countries helped India,' Owaisi said.
Emphasising the effectiveness of the Grey list of FATF to counter terrorism, Owaisi said, 'There was this one terrorist called Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi - no country in the world would allow a terrorist who's facing a terror charge. He became a father to a son while sitting in prison. The trial progressed immediately when Pakistan was put on the Grey list (of FATF).'
'It's not only a question of South Asia. We are the 4th largest economy. What will happen? Do you want all this carnage to spread to different parts of South Asia? No. It is in the interest of world peace to control Pakistan, which is the main sponsor of terrorism. It has to be brought back in the FATF Grey list,' he added. (ANI)

Buddhist monk from Bangladesh who applied for citizenship under CAA booked for holding fake Indian passport
Nagpur: Joysen Barua, a 41-year-old Buddhist monk from Chittagong in Bangladesh, who was among the first to apply for citizenship in Nagpur under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), is now on the run facing charges of holding a fake Indian passport. An FIR was registered against him on Tuesday. This happened even as his application under CAA was being processed by the district level committee (DLC). CAA allows Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan to obtain Indian nationality on a fast-track basis. The DLC holds its meetings at the General Post Office from time to time to process the applications. Living in India since 2011, Barua applied for citizenship under CAA and first appeared before the committee in June 2024. His case could not be processed as he needed to submit more papers to prove his Bangladeshi citizenship. He again appeared before DLC on August 8 this year, but again sought time for getting the papers. A source said he did not have an original Bangladeshi passport and submitted a coloured photocopy of the passport. However, the DLC needs original documents. He did not even have a resident permit (RP), which is issued for foreigners coming to India. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "An offence has been registered against him for possessing a fake Indian passport and a search is on to trace him," said the police inspector (Gittikhadan station) Kailas Deshmane, where an offence has been registered against him. The DLC had scheduled an appointment for CAA applicants on Wednesday. However, on Tuesday, Barua simply walked into the regional passport office and told an official that he was a Bangladeshi citizen living on a fake Indian passport. He also handed over the allegedly forged Indian passport, admitting that it was fake. Barua said he wanted to obtain Indian citizenship through legal means. When TOI interviewed him in June 2024 at the GPO, Barua displayed his school leaving certificate and marksheet from Boalkhali in Chittagong district of Bangladesh. Barua told TOI that he applied for CAA soon after the law came into force in March 2024. He also accepted that his visa was not valid. He came to India in 2011 on a tourist visa to visit Bodh Gaya in Bihar, but overstayed. "There were other monks from Bangladesh who eventually reached Nagpur. In 2014, communal strife back in Chittagong prompted him to stay back in India. His parents and brother continue to live in Chittagong," he said. Breach in Pak, flooding in India: Crop damaged, BSF post inundated
Ferozepur: A breach occurred in the Satluj river embankment located across the border near Tendi Wala in Pakistan, raising fears of flooding in over a dozen villages of upstream Punjab. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Rising water level has already damaged hundreds of acres of standing crop on the Indian side and inundated a Border Security Force (BSF) post. Though BSF officials, with the help of villagers, are trying to stop the water from entering the post by putting sandbags along the boundary, the rise in water level has made the exercise futile. The embankment breach is expected to worsen the situation in many villages already hit by flooding along the river. Authorities have warned that water levels may rise further, severely impacting daily life in low-lying areas. Rescue operations are underway at multiple locations, with teams dispatched to affected areas. With water levels rising along the border with Pakistan, BSF has intensified boat patrols to stop intruders and smugglers from exploiting the situation. Flood-damaged sections of the border fencing have raised concerns about potential infiltration and smuggling. To bolster security, BSF has ramped up patrols and held special meetings with local police and border residents. The aim is to raise awareness and encourage vigilance against possible movements of drug smugglers or other miscreants seeking to take advantage of the floods. Ferozepur deputy commissioner Deepshikha Sharma also reached the site and directed officials to ensure the protection of lives and property. Immediate relief measures are being arranged to supply essential items to residents in need.

Absurd: Plane hijacked in Pak in 1998, panic among Hyd cops now!
Hyderabad: Twenty-seven years after a plane was hijacked in Pakistan, a Pakistani X user decided to post about it on his handle, only to trigger an absurd chain of events that led to a case being booked against him in Hyderabad, India, on Aug 14, 2025. It was on May 25, 1998 that Pakistani authorities had arrested three youngsters from Balochistan for hijacking a Pakistan Airlines flight that took off from Gwadar airport. An 'X' user posted about the incident on his handle on Aug 14, 2025, unaware of its possible repercussions. As the post contained words like 'Hyderabad Airport' (in Sindh, Pakistan), 'Hijackers', 'Captain Uzair Khan', 'Delhi', the Airport Predictive Operations Centre (APOC), which also uses a AI-powered social media listening tool, received an alert about the "threat message" citing the X handle. The APOC official promptly lodged a complaint with the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) police at Hyderabad India, and a case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act on Aug 15. Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The message read: "Captain Uzair Khan, calm under duress, breached the hijackers' demand of heading to Delhi by citing fuel shortage-buying precious time. Pakistan Air Force jets intercepted the aircraft, herding it toward Hyderabad Airport # Pakistan. Here's where brilliance met bravado. Khan radioed Hyderabad Airport, but in his coded message, he referred to it as Bhuj Airport. The hijackers were fixated on maps of Bhuj and were forced to reckon that they'd already crossed into Indian territory. " The alert and the complaint give the impression that the post was referring to Hyderabad Airport in India since there was mention of Delhi and Bhuj. When TOI looked at the original post, the author clearly started the thread saying, "The Hijacking that Pakistan Outsmarted," and then continued with, "May 25, 1998. A PIA Fokker F-27, Flight PK-544, lifted off from Gwadar with 33 passengers and 5 crew. Moments later, three armed men from the Baloch Students Organisation seized the aircraft and demanded to be flown to New Delhi." The thread ends by explaining how the hijackers were arrested by commandos at Hyderabad Airport in Sindh, and exactly 17 years later, on May 28, 2015, they were hanged. Unfortunately, neither the complainant nor police seem to be aware of the full content of the original post, which was only describing the 1998 hijacking incident. As a result, a case was registered under Sections 351(4) (Criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) and 353(2) (Statements conducing to public mischief) of the BNS and Section 66-D (cheating by personation) of the Information Technology Act. "We have registered a case regarding the hijacking threat-related email received by the airport authorities. We are trying to find out about the person who originally posted it online. The case is under investigation," an RGI Airport police officer said. Long before the advent of social media and even the partition of India, the city of Nizams was not just Hyderabad, it was referred to as Hyderabad (Deccan) in all communications, not to be confused with its twin, Hyderabad (Sindh), in Pakistan. With time and firming of borders, the link between the two Hyderabads got confined to the annals of history. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
