Selangor assembly to discuss vape ban, says MB
KUALA SELANGOR: A proposal to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes (vapes) in Selangor will be tabled at the state legislative assembly meeting.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated he had instructed public health and environment executive councillor Jamaliah Jamaluddin to prepare the paper before making any decision on the matter.
"The state government should look into this matter comprehensively so it can guarantee the health of members of the future generation," he said.
Amirudin addressed the press at an event where the Raw Water Guarantee Scheme (SJAM) Package A and C project was handed over to Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd.
Currently, Johor and Terengganu have banned the use of vape due to alleged usage by minors to consume drugs.
On another matter, Amirudin said the Selangor state government was ready to act as intermediaries in negotiations between victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline blast and insurance companies concerning claims for home and vehicle damage.
He mentioned the issue will be discussed with the state's disaster management unit.
Amirudin added the claims will involve terms stipulated in the respective insurance policies between residents and insurance companies.
"The state government can perhaps help to mediate as the agreements (in the policies) are between the residents and the insurers," he said.

SEPANG: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has mooted the idea of the proposed Selangor Rail project to complement the Selangor Aero Park (SAP). Amirudin in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of SAP said the proposed rail network is the missing link that would connect key infrastructure and unlock the full potential of the state's aerospace development. "The proposed rail line, initially presented to the Transport Ministry several months ago, would serve to integrate the state's industrial zones, communities, and major transport hubs across Selangor and the Klang Valley. "Moving forward, if we are able to realise the full potential of SAP, there is one missing link which can join the dotted lines to connect industry, people, and the major transport infrastructure in Selangor and the Klang Valley, and that is the Selangor Rail. "It would connect Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Subang Airport, the existing seaports in Port Klang, and the upcoming third port in Carey Island, subject to the approval of the federal government," he said. Amirudin also said that despite the financial complexities involved, Selangor is ready to extend its full intellectual and technical support to turn the proposal into reality. In February, Selangor Investment, Trade and Mobility Committee chairman Ng Sze Han said the proposed 210km rail line is expected to take 10 years to complete once it receives the go-ahead from the government. Ng also said that the proposed line could reduce travel time by an hour for those travelling from Sabak Bernam to KLIA as compared to those travelling by road.

Putra Heights fire: Rental assistance extended until next year
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will continue providing rental assistance to victims of the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, at least until April next year. State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the decision to continue the RM2,000 monthly rental assistance was made to ensure that victims have appropriate shelter until their homes are repaired. 'Initially, the state government agreed to provide rental support for six months, but we have decided to extend it for up to a year or more, especially for homes that were completely destroyed, as rebuilding will take time,' he said. 'For houses that were partially damaged, assistance will also continue until repairs are fully completed. The aid will only be discontinued once the occupants are able to return to their homes,' he said in a statement today. He added that the Selangor government will monitor the repair progress of each affected home to ensure that assistance is distributed efficiently under the allocated funding. On April 30, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the Selangor government had allocated RM2.73 million in rental assistance for 455 families affected by the incident, covering six months from April onwards. The Petronas gas pipeline fire, which occurred in Putra Heights at 8.10 am on April 1, sent flames soaring over 30 metres high, with temperatures reaching up to 1,000 degrees Celsius. The blaze took nearly eight hours to extinguish and left a 9.8-metre-deep crater at the site.
