Free healthcare at private clinics for eligible STR recipients
Published on: Thu, Jul 03, 2025 Text Size: KUALA LUMPUR: Many recipients of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) cash aid are still unaware that they are also eligible for free treatment at selected private clinics across Malaysia. The initiative, known as the Madani Medical Scheme, has been available since June 15, 2023, to provide better healthcare access for low-income groups. Under this scheme, eligible STR recipients can receive free treatment at private clinics without needing to rely solely on public healthcare facilities. The scheme is currently available in ten locations, including Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, and selected districts in Selangor, Perak, and Penang. Services covered include consultations, check-ups, medication, minor procedures, and follow-up referrals for common acute health issues. Annual claim limits are set at RM250 for households, RM125 for senior citizens without spouses, and RM75 for single individuals. Once the yearly limit is reached, recipients must wait for the next cycle to continue receiving benefits under the scheme. No registration is required - recipients only need to present their MyKad at any participating private clinic. To check eligibility or locate a participating clinic, recipients can visit the ProtectHealth website for updated information. Speaking at the Kota Kinabalu Area Health Office's Teen Health Carnival at SM Maktab Sabah, Saturday, he said the wellbeing of adolescents today would determine the success of the nation in the years to come. 'One in 10 teenagers in Malaysia suffers from mental health issues, one in 10 is overweight or obese and data shows that 20 per cent of teenagers aged 13 to 17 are using e-cigarettes. These are critical challenges that require collective attention,' he said. MCMC, police tracking TikTok user over over fake Zara Qairina post-mortem claims

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are working to identify a TikTok user who falsely claimed to be a surgeon involved in the post-mortem of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the individual had claimed that he was present during the post-mortem on Aug 10, but checks by the Health Ministry (MoH) confirmed that he was neither a specialist nor an MoH staff member. 'This individual shared various false information during a TikTok live session, creating the impression that his claims were factual. 'Unfortunately, the content went viral and has caused public confusion,' he told reporters after launching the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 campaign for Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya at the Teacher Education Institute (Malay Language Campus) here today. Fahmi said the matter was confirmed by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad through an official report from health deputy director-general (Medical) Datuk Dr Nor Azimi Yunus, who obtained verified information from the forensic specialists handling the case. 'The head of the forensic team confirmed the TikTok user was not a forensic specialist and that all information disseminated was false. 'The individual has since set his TikTok account to private, making it difficult for the authorities to contact him,' Fahmi said, reminding the public not to be easily swayed by unverified claims on social media. He cautioned that spreading false information is a serious offence, punishable by a fine of up to RM500,000 if convicted. Zara Qairina was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu on July 17 after being admitted a day earlier.
