Phil Collins, 74, admitted to hospital after clearing up 'hospice' rumours
Last week was a brutal one for music fans as we lost the iconic Ozzy Osbourne and jazz legend Chuck Mangione, as well as wrestler Hulk Hogan.
Social media was rife with speculation about Phil's health, with a rumour that he was in a hospice (usually reserved for the terminally ill) spreading quickly among fans.
Concerns for the 74-year-old musician have been growing since he officially retired in 2022 after Genesis' farewell show.
Phil's spokesperson has attempted to calm any worry surrounding the Genesis drummer's health, assuring TMZ he is 'nowhere near death'.
Instead, the You'll Be In My Heart legend is in hospital for a knee operation — not in hospice care at all.
The spokesperson did not specify any details about the knee operation but this is not the first surgery Phil has undergone.
In 2007, the In The Air Tonight hitmaker suffered a spinal injury, resulting in his continuous struggle with severe nerve damage and deteriorating mobility.
He had dislocated vertebrae in his neck while on tour with Genesis but after two surgeries — in 2009 and 2015 — Phil was reliant on a cane.
The injury also resulted in numbness in his hands, meaning that by 2019, he was unable to hold drumsticks and had to retire.
On top of this, in 2021, the Hall of Famer revealed he also had diabetes so his health was suffering as a result of that too.
Speaking to Mojo magazine in their April issue, he shared: 'I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens.

'But I'm not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I've been sick, I mean very sick.'
While Phil might not be desperate to record new music, he did sit down at a drum set for the first time in 15 years with the help of his son, Nic Collins.
He was honoured in a documentary, Drummer First, which explored the Against All Odds hitmaker's life and legacy as a drummer.
In the documentary trailer, he commented: 'It's still kind of sinking in a bit… I've spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock.
'If I can't do what I did as well as I did it, I'd rather relax and not do anything. If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks, then I will have a crack at it.
'I just feel like I've used up my air miles. It just feels so strange to hold a pair.' More Trending
Phil was last publicly seen in May when he supported his son, Mathew, 20, at a football match. He plays for WSG Tirol II, which is the youth academy team of Austrian club WSG Tirol.
Mathew posed with dad in the stands of the club's stadium, with the younger Collins family member still dressed in his green kit while Phil opted for a snuggly fleece.
The caption read, 'Two big wins today!', hinting that his dad's attendance meant a lot in the face of the drummer's deteriorating health.
Metro has reached out to Phil Collins' reps for comment.

‘We lost £250,000 minutes into new ITV show – but we can't complain'
Warning: spoilers ahead for the first episode of The Fortune Hotel series 2. It's never ideal being the first contestants to be eliminated on a primetime gameshow. However, that's the reality that friends and cleaning business partners Chelsey and Briony faced when they embarked on the adventure of competing in ITV's The Fortune Hotel series 2. The second season of the show, which is hosted by Stephen Mangan, launched tonight, with 11 pairs making their way to a hotel in the Caribbean with the aim of checking in and getting their hands on a briefcase containing a £250,000 fortune. Sadly, Chelsey and Briony were eliminated before they even had the chance to enter the hotel, as other players were quicker to figure out a cryptic crossword that informed them where they needed to go. Thankfully, they're still in good spirits about the experience. 'It weren't all bad. We can't really complain. We had an all-inclusive holiday in an absolutely stunning place that not many people would see with your best friend. We got to do things on the island,' Chelsey, who was 34 at the time of filming, tells Metro. 'It was surreal, once in a lifetime.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Briony, who was 33 at the time of filming, adds: 'We went river tubing. Then we went visiting waterfalls, and the sea… The experience looking back on it was fantastic.' At the start of episode one, the competing pairs have to fill out a crossword that, when solved, tells them that they need to head to the reception desk of the hotel. The first batch of couples who reach the correct answer and get to the hotel are safe to scheme another day – but the others are all at risk of being eliminated right away. They each choose a briefcase to open, one of which contains the devastating 'early checkout card'. Briony and Chelsey decided to select briefcase number two, as it's both their favourite number. Unfortunately, they had selected the poisoned chalice. 'Unfortunately, our lucky number just wasn't lucky,' Briony quips. Even though the friends were in the show for a very short amount of time, they still left a big impression with their energetic personalities, racing towards Stephen on the beach after they arrived by boat. Host Stephen Mangan gives Metro the lowdown on what to expect in The Fortune Hotel series two… which he promises will have even more shocks than before. 'It was exciting the first time around because it was a show that had never been done before,' Stephen tells us about the first series. 'Sometimes these shows are formats that they've tried in other countries and have been a hit, so they know how they work. But we were inventing a brand new game, which is exciting and terrifying at the same time.' So what's in store for the second outing? 'More surprises, more challenges, more epic things happening,' he promises. The host adds that if he were a player on the game, he'd be more 'ruthless' than fans might expect. To read more from our interview, click here. Before competing in the new series, Briony had already seen the first, and 'absolutely loved it'. Just like many other viewers, she watched the show assuming that it was a pretty straightforward game set in an idyllic paradise – but getting to grips with the show firsthand made both of the women realise how much harder it actually is. More Trending 'When you're in it, and you have got 101 things going on around you, it's so hard. It's a different ballgame completely,' she says, as Chelsey adds: 'It's not what we expected at all, but we loved every minute of it.' The women from Wigan would be up for returning if there was an all-stars edition, especially as they felt as though they didn't really get a chance to show themselves off fully. 'People tell us all the time we're funny,' Chelsey remarks. 'We're such a little act together, we bounce off each other, and we feel like we didn't have the time to really show that. Denise Richards steps out with 'black eye' days after cop confrontation at ex Aaron Phypers' home
Denise Richards sparked concern as she stepped out with an apparent black eye this week just days after getting confronted by cops at her ex Aaron Phypers' home. The 54-year-old actress, whose split from Phypers, 52, was revealed last month, was granted a temporary restraining order against Phypers on July 16, after accusing him of years of physical and emotional abuse - which he has denied. However Richards was seen arriving at Phypers' Calabasas home on Sunday before police were called. Amid the drama in her personal life, Richards stepped out in Calabasas on Tuesday with a large dark shadow around her right eye and a dark mark below her chin. The make-up free star looked somber as she strolled with sources telling TMZ her apparent bruises were 'just lighting and shadow'. They added she also underwent microneedling and a PRP injection. Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Denise Richards for comment and has yet to hear back. Sources told TMZ Richards arrived 'unannounced' at Phypers' home last week and 'started banging on a back door, demanding to be let inside.' Phypers saw this and immediately left due to concern over the restraining order. Phypers' parents let Richards inside and it was claimed she 'barged in, demanded the dog' and 'screamed at his parents that they needed to get out of the house, putting her finger in their faces.' The publication claims she allegedly began 'swinging' at Phypers' brother Brett and 'throwing mail at him.' Brett was later pictured standing by Richards' parked Corvette as they waited for police. Richards was seen being questioned by three Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies outside the home, with police concluding 'there was no crime committed and no arrests were made.' A distraught Phypers was seen consoling his 'terrified and shaken up' mom after Richards' visit - which marks the latest explosive chapter in the pair's acrimonious divorce. Richards' divorce attorney Brett Berman told Daily Mail in a statement that 'Ms. Richards did not violate a restraining order' and had only entered the home when Phypers was not there. 'On August 3, 2025, after confirming that Mr. Phypers was not present in her home. Richards entered the home to retrieve her dogs' Berman continued. Berman claimed that Richards did so 'after learning that Mr. Phypers had put down one of her other dogs without her knowledge or permission.' Phypers denied these 'absolutely false' accusations' to the Daily Mail and said: 'Denise's actions are willfully intentional in the slander and destruction of what is left of a family. He further claimed: 'This is after Denise chose to carry on an adulterous affair - after being caught not once, not twice, but three times.' In California, victims named as the 'protected person' in a restraining order will not get into trouble for contacting the person against whom the order was taken out. However, the person who is restrained by the order may use it as evidence to dismiss the order in future court proceedings. After Aaron filed divorce paperwork on July 7, Richards hit back a week later with a request for a temporary restraining order that included a laundry list of domestic abuse allegations — all of which her husband has denied. Her estranged husband has since denied all allegations of abuse, while a source close to Phypers told the Daily Mail that her black eye was actually the result of a drunken fall. He said he is waiting for an upcoming August court hearing in which a judge will decide if the order is lifted, and until then, he is banned from going near his estranged wife and their adopted daughter Eloise, 14, whom he says he adores and misses terribly. It comes days after Phypers alleged that she has been having a months-long affair with a former special forces soldier named Rudy Reyes. He claimed in a detailed letter to 'family and close friends' that Reyes has showered her with X-rated photos and videos, including a graphic clip that shows him naked and pleasuring himself. In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, the Wild Things actress' outraged husband claimed he caught wind of his wife's alleged affair in April. He said she had promised to break it off, only for him to catch her lying about another hook-up with 53-year-old Rudy that took place at a Hilton Garden Inn in Burbank, California, the following month. He claimed his discovery of the May tryst then led to an explosive argument over the July 4th holiday weekend, during which she smashed his phone. Phypers was the founder of the Malibu wellness center, Q360 Club (also known as Quantum 360), until he chose to shut it down last year, on October 1, 2024. According to his petition for divorce, filed on July 7, he has not made any income since. Richards, allegedly makes $250,000 per month from being on OnlyFans, TV shows, having brand deals and doing appearances, he noted in the income and expense declaration obtained by the Daily Mail. He's requesting spousal support since he alleges his monthly expenses total $105,000, and is demanding he and Richards split 50 percent of their production company, Smoke & Mirrors Entertainment.
