Pedestrian feared drowned after being hit by car in Jalan Ipoh

KUALA LUMPUR: A pedestrian is feared drowned after falling into a river when he was hit by a car in an accident along Jalan Ipoh heading towards the Kepong roundabout here today.
The incident, which occurred at about 11.45am, involved a Nissan Sylphy driven by a 39-year-old Bangladeshi man from the direction of the Batu Muda People's Housing Project (PPR). The car is believed to have gone out of control.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said the accident involved two vehicles and one pedestrian.
"Preliminary investigations found that the Nissan Sylphy is believed to have lost control and collided with the front right side of a Toyota Camry driven by a 43-year-old Vietnamese woman coming from Batu Kentomen.
"The Nissan then struck a pedestrian before plunging off the bridge and becoming wedged between concrete structures and an iron pipeline," he said in a statement today.
He said the driver of the Nissan sustained injuries and was taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for further treatment.
However, Mohd Zamzuri said the pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been determined, is believed to have fallen into the river and has not been located.
Following this, a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched by personnel from the Sentul, Jinjang and Hang Tuah Fire and Rescue Stations, along with the Civil Defence Force (APM), Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) and JSPT Kuala Lumpur.
"Further investigation revealed that the car driven by the foreign national does not belong to him.
"Police are in the process of locating the actual owner of the vehicle for further action.
"The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The Bangladeshi man has been detained for further investigation," he added.
