HYDRA resolves sewage issue within 24 hours
Hyderabad: Following a complaint received by Prajavani on Monday, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) swiftly addressed a sewage issue within 24 hours, providing much-needed relief to residents of Ramachandraiah Colony in Mallampet, Dundigal mandal (Medchal-Malkajgiri district).
The colony residents reported that a section of their community is experiencing severe sewage overflow caused by blockage in drainage connecting Chennam Lake to Rellakunta. With water levels exceeding a metre, numerous homes were inundated with sewage, compelling families to leave their residences. 'Our homes have been flooded with sewage; we have been living outdoors for a month,' the complaint submitted via HYDRA Prajavani said.
The resident reported that sewage from the Nizampet municipality is contaminating Chennam Lake, which is supposed to drain into Rellakunta in Bollaram municipality. Unfortunately, blockages along the route hindered this essential flow. According to the complaint, the issue arose when developers of a nearby layout obstructed a section of the drainage channel, exacerbating the situation.
They expressed frustration that despite previously alerting the authorities, they voiced their disappointment over lack of action. Following the complaint, HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath took initiative to investigate the issue through Google Maps and satellite imagery. He swiftly directed officials to act. On Tuesday, HYDRA personnel reached the location and cleared the obstructed drainage channel, allowing stagnant sewage to flow out of the colony. The residents expressed happiness that HYDRA resolved the issue within 24 hours of filing the complaint.

Malda cops help Nepal boy return home
Malda: A 14-year-old boy from Nepal, missing for 11 days, was reunited with his family on Wednesday, thanks to the efforts of Malda Police. The boy, deaf and speech-impaired, was found on June 2 in Gourhanda village under Chanchal PS. Since he was unable to communicate, cops sought help from special educator Suhana Parveen. After counselling, she managed to learn his name — Sashi Yadav — and a partial address — Khutta. Constable Ajoy Oraon, with SI Kajal Das and officer Biplab Mondal used Google Maps to locate multiple places named Khutta across India. Eventually, they zeroed in on a village by the same name in Nepal. Oraon contacted Nepal-based NGO Ragam Apaht Anrak, which confirmed the boy's identity as Sashi Yadav from Khutta, Loharpatti Nagarpalika, Madhesh Pradesh. His family recognised him via video call. On Wednesday, Sashi's mother Bibha Devi arrived at Chanchal PS. After verification of documents and CWC Malda's approval, the boy was handed over to her.

CM urges all depts to be on high alert
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy put the city police, Traffic, HYDRA and GHMC wings on alert to prevent traffic and other problems during heavy rains in Hyderabad. The Chief Minister also ordered the officials of the four departments to work in coordination and press the emergency wing teams into the service, ensuring they are available round the clock to tackle the situation in the rain hit areas. He inquired about the progress of the water harvesting well works taken up at the identified 141 water logging points in Hyderabad and suggested to take adequate measures to pump out rainwater which enters the harvesting wells by using automatic pumps. The officials were instructed to take immediate preventive measures as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast in the state. A new system should also be developed at the Command Control Centre to monitor the intensity of rains and floods regularly. Expediting the completion of pending drainage and desilting works, identification of the problematic areas and preventive measures was also discussed in the meeting. The CM instructed the officials to prepare plans in advance and pay special attention to prevent floods and submergence in the Core Urban Region located inside the Outer Ring Road. In view of the fast development of the Core Urban Region, CM Revanth Reddy suggested a special policy for the expansion and development of tanks, canals, and roads within the region.

Two hurt as part of Fatehnagar flyover staircase collapses
HYDERABAD: Two people sustained minor injuries after a portion of the over-three-decade-old pedestrian staircase attached to the Fatehnagar flyover collapsed in Sanathnagar on Monday. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. According to local authorities, the staircase, already in a bad condition, suddenly collapsed, causing panic among passersby. The two pedestrians on the staircase at the time sustained injuries. Upon learning of the incident, Sanathnagar police rushed to the spot. They suspect that absorption of rainwater may have weakened the structure, leading to the collapse. HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath inspected the site on Tuesday morning. Locals informed the commissioner that a fair is held in Sanathnagar every Sunday, drawing hundreds of visitors who use the stairs. Ranganath noted that it was unsafe to continue using such a dilapidated structure and ordered its immediate removal. Following this, HYDRAA personnel used a JCB to demolish the stairs. The commissioner also directed HYDRAA officials to get all such structures across the city assessed by experts from the Civil Engineering department and remove any deemed unsafe.
