Beyoncé's Mom Tina Knowles Defends Scolding Rumi On Stage
In the footage, Bey publicly congratulates Tina on her new book, Matriarch: A Memoir. She tells the crowd: "Today is a big day because my mother, who worked so hard on her book, she has the number one book on the New York Times bestseller list. Everybody, please say: 'Congratulations, Mama T!''
However, fans were more distracted by 7-year-old Rumi, who is clearly incredibly overexcited to be there. The little girl is clapping her hands and jumping up and down throughout the video, and at one point in the clip, she goes over to her mom and seemingly tries to reach for the microphone.
Tina can be seen pulling Rumi back, and looks as though she sternly says something to her.
At this point, 13-year-old Blue reaches her hand out for Rumi to stand with her. Afterward, when it's time for Tina and the girls to leave the stage, Tina can be seen guiding Rumi to the side and hugging Blue before taking her hand and walking both girls off.
The video divided people at the time, with some arguing that Tina was too hard on her young granddaughter. One person commented: 'I really don't like how mama T is treating her grandchild😞''I don't like the grandmother's reaction to Rumiì🥺,' somebody else echoed, while another popular comment read: '🤣 Tina ain't no sweet grandma she strict 🤣 she like girl stay put 🤣'Others compared Tina's reaction to Blue's, with one person writing: 'Blue has more patience with Rumi than her grandmother has.'Another said: 'I'm so disappointed with Tina's lack of patience and empathy towards Rumi, s/o to Blue Ivy for having a patience, understanding and soft towards her younger sister.'
But 71-year-old Tina has brushed off the criticism in a new interview with Gayle King, where she admitted: 'People have written all kinds of narratives about it.'
'It was real, I mean, it's real life,' she went on, before quipping: 'Grandmas don't play.'Tina then recalled what exactly was going through her mind during the incident, explaining: 'It was just that she was reaching for the mic because she wanted to say something, and I realized that, and she was pulling, and I was like, 'Oh God, that's all that needs to happen, is the mic hits her in the face.''Anticipating what the tabloid response to that would be, Tina joked that the headlines would say 'Beyoncé hit her in the face.'
Despite the online response, Tina said that it was 'so special' to join her daughter and granddaughters on stage, saying: "It was from a different perspective — I'm usually behind the stage — but it was actually fun. It was exciting."

Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here. The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four pairs of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they get more complicated from there. There is only one set of right answers for this, and you only get a certain number of tries so you can't just spam around until you find something. There are difficulty tiers coded by color, which will usually go from yellow, blue/green to purple as difficulty increases, so know that going in and when you start linking them together. You pick the four words you think are linked and either you will get a solve and a lit up row that shows you how you were connected. If you're close, it will tell you that you're one away. Again, four mistakes you lose, but if you want to know the answers without failing, either come here, or delete your web cookies and try again. These are the hints that are laid out on the puzzle board itself, but after that, we will get into spoiler territory with some hints and eventually the answers. First, here are today's Connections words: Alright, the full spoilers follow here as we get into what the groups are today: The full-on answers are below for each group, finally inserting the four words in each category. Spoilers follow if you do not want to get this far. The Connections answers are: This was definitely a trickier NYT Connections than I've seen the past few Sundays. I started off with my own area of expertise: Fiction. As soon as I saw PULP and HISTORICAL I was pretty sure we were talking about pulp fiction and historical fiction, and it was just a matter of looking for a couple more words that fit. FAN fiction and SCIENCE fiction did the trick. Blue group was done in a jiffy. From here, I was less certain. CONCENTRATE and JUICE seemed to go together. And you get CALCIUM from orange juice. I also thought some of the words might fit with measurements, like WEIGHT and GROUP. Eventually, I gathered the green words together: CLUSTER, COLLECT, CONCENTRATE and GROUP are all words about focusing or amassing a quantity. Green group done. The last two were confusing, mostly because I really wasn't sure how something like CHEMISE fit into the picture. That's a type of nightwear or lingerie. I thought it might be medical stuff – CALCIUM and WEIGHT and so forth, but that still didn't fit. Finally, I realized that JUICE, PULL, SWAY and WEIGHT all could mean types of influence you hold or carry. I have juice with the dock workers, and pull with the wise guys down at the bar and hold sway over the shop owners, and my word carries weight with the politicians. That sort of thing. That only left purple. These were, as always, the trickiest of the bunch because they literally have nothing to do with one another. A BIOPIC is a movie about someone's life. TRIGLYCERIDEs are a type of fat, or lipid, found in the blood. But each one has the same first few letters as an abbreviated math or science class: BIOlogy, CALCulus, CHEMistry, TRIGonometry. You refer to these classes as bio, calc, chem and trig for short. All told, a reasonably challenging puzzle! How did you do?
