Following the announcement, AIFF came up with an optimistic message, stating that it will take all the necessary steps to ensure the continuity of the Indian Super League. 'If the league doesn't take place, it is not only footballers but the people who are associated with football that will be affected. It's thousands of people who will be affected. So, we will put our best effort to ensure that the league happens,' AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey had said. The current agreement between FSDL and AIFF, which brings the league's structure operations and commercial framework under the purview, is set to expire on December 8. As the league season typically starts in September and lasts till April, the situation has become complex with broadcasters needing clarity to plan logistics and commercial activations. The communication gap has made the future uncertain. 'This has impacted not just short-term decisions but is now beginning to affect the structural backbone of our institutions,' the letter read. The letter was acknowledged by Bengaluru FC, Jamshedpur FC, FC Goa, Hyderabad FC, Kerala Blasters, NorthEast United FC, Odisha FC and Punjab FC. The Kolkata-based clubs - Mohun Bagan Super Giant, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting - along with Mumbai City FC and Chennaiyin FC, did not sign the letter. As the Supreme Court's ruling is due, Thursday's meeting can prove to be crucial as an urgent measure is needed to ensure the continuation of the ISL in the upcoming season.

KMRL launches UPI-enabled ticket vending machines at metro stations

The Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has introduced UPI-based payments at ticket vending machines in all stations along the Aluva–Thripunithura metro corridor. The move is part of its initiative to offer a faster, more user-friendly ticketing experience while reducing dependency on cash transactions. The initiative was inaugurated on Monday (August 4) by Transport Commissioner Nagaraju C. at a function held at the metro's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium station. Speaking on the occasion, Loknath Behera, Managing Director of KMRL, said this marked the latest in a series of initiatives aimed at making ticket booking faster and more convenient for passengers. 'Only a few metro systems in the country have integrated UPI with vending machines. Kochi Metro is proud to be one among them,' he said. 'Several new systems have been introduced to reduce dependency on ticket counters. Our ultimate goal is to transition to a completely digital ticketing system.' Attributing the delay in the metro's Kakkanad extension works to issues such as shifting utilities, Mr. Behera said that the first five stations on the stretch would be ready by June 30, 2026, followed by the remaining five stations by December 31, 2026. Digital ticketing Using UPI-based payments, metro commuters can purchase tickets instantly by scanning a QR code and making a payment via any UPI-enabled mobile application. This eliminates the need for physical cash or card transactions, reduces waiting time at counters, and ensures a smooth, contactless, and secure payment process. It is especially beneficial during peak hours, as it helps decongest ticket counters and offers commuters a quicker alternative to access metro services, a release said. KMRL's digital tickets are currently available on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform through a wide range of popular applications, including Paytm, PhonePe, redBus, Tummoc, Yatri, EaseMyTrip, Rapido, Telegram (My Metro Kochi) and Kerala Savaari.

AIFF Top Brass To Meet 8 ISL Club CEOs On August 7 To Discuss Concerns

The top brass of the AIFF will meet the CEOs of eight clubs of the country after the latter expressed concerns over the "current status and direction" of the country's football with the Indian Super League (ISL) being put on hold. Worried about their future, eight ISL clubs had written to the All India Football Federation after the top-tier league was put on hold by the organisers -- Football Sports Development Limited -- due to the lack of clarity on the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) with the national federation. The 15-year MRA between the AIFF and the FSDL -- the national federation's marketing partners -- ends on December 18. "AIFF officials will meet with CEOs from eight Indian Super League clubs, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, in New Delhi, to discuss issues regarding #IndianFootball," the AIFF said in a tweet. Earlier, the eight ISL clubs had written to the AIFF that they found themselves unable to plan with the level "that professional football operations require" in the absence of proper interaction with the AIFF or FSDL. "This has impacted not just short-term decisions but is now beginning to affect the structural backbone of our institutions," they wrote. The letter, calling for a "constructive dialogue" with the AIFF, was signed by Bengaluru FC, Jamshedpur FC, FC Goa, Hyderabad FC, Kerala Blasters, NorthEast United FC, Odisha FC and Punjab FC. The three Kolkata-based clubs -- Mohun Bagan Super Giant, East Bengal, Mohammedan Sporting -- as well as Mumbai City FC and Chennaiyin FC were missing. Last month, AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey had assured that this season's ISL will be held, though he did not specify on a start date of the top-tier domestic competition. "If the league doesn't take place, it is not only footballers but the people who are associated with football that will be affected. It's thousands of people who will be affected. So, we will put our best effort to ensure that the league happens," he has said. On July 11, ISL organisers FSDL announced that it has put the 2025-26 season "on hold" due to the uncertainty surrounding the renewal of the MRA signed with the AIFF in 2010. ISL normally runs from September to April. Following a directive from the Supreme Court, the AIFF has been asked not to negotiate new terms of the MRA (with FSDL) until a final judgment is delivered in the AIFF draft constitution case. The Supreme Court may pronounce its judgment soon.
