Zendaya to voice Shrek's daughter in Shrek 5
Zendaya has officially joined the cast of Shrek 5, marking a major addition to the beloved animated franchise.
The news was revealed Thursday morning through the series' official social media accounts, reposting her 2017 tweet which said, "I watch Shrek too often in my adulthood", captioning it, 'this aged well'.
Zendaya will voice the daughter of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz), making her a key character in the highly anticipated sequel. In addition to Zendaya, Eddie Murphy will reprise his iconic role as Donkey.
Scheduled for release on December 23, 2026, Shrek 5 will be the first new Shrek film in over 16 years, following the release of Shrek Forever After in 2010. While plot details remain under wraps, the film is expected to continue the franchise's tradition of humor and heart.
The film is directed by Walt Dohrn, known for his work on the Trolls franchise, who also contributed to the second, third, and fourth Shrek films. Dohrn is co-directing alongside Brad Ableson, who worked on Minions: The Rise of Gru. Producing the film are Gina Shay, also from the Trolls series, and Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, the studio behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Shrek has become one of DreamWorks Animation's most successful franchises, beginning with the 2001 film that grossed over $488 million worldwide and won the first-ever Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Its four films have earned nearly $2.9 billion globally, along with a Broadway musical, theme park attractions, and a spin-off film series focused on Puss in Boots.
Zendaya's casting in Shrek 5 follows her recent success in Dune, Euphoria, and her upcoming role in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. She is also expected to appear in the next Spider-Man film.

Chess Broadway revival starring Lea Michele Aaron Tveit Nicholas Christopher set for fall 2025
The first Broadway revival of Chess will arrive this fall with Aaron Tveit, Lea Michele, and Nicholas Christopher in the starring roles. The production will open in fall 2025 at a Shubert theater to be announced. Tony winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) will direct, with Tveit playing Freddie Trumper, Michele as Florence Vassey, and Christopher portraying Anatoly Sergievsky according to Deadline. Produced by Tom Hulce, Robert Ahrens, and The Shubert Organization alongside Creative Partners Productions, Chess will feature a new book by Emmy Award winner Danny Strong (Dopesick). Music and lyrics are by ABBA's Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and Tim Rice, based on an idea by Rice. Chess tells the story of a Cold War-era grandmaster chess tournament between American Freddie Trumper and Soviet Anatoly Sergievsky. Florence, Trumper's manager and possible lover, becomes entangled with his opponent. The official synopsis states: 'It's America versus Russia at the World Chess Championship, where espionage and romance are as complicated and exhilarating as the game itself. For the two players and the woman torn between them, everything—personal, professional, and political—is at risk…and nobody's rules are the same.' The musical originally premiered in London's West End in 1986, directed by Trevor Nunn after original director Michael Bennett withdrew due to health issues. Despite mixed reviews and revisions before its 1988 Broadway premiere, Chess closed shortly after opening. However, it has since gained a devoted following and produced the global hit 'One Night In Bangkok.' This revival marks Lea Michele's first Broadway appearance since her acclaimed role in the 2022 Funny Girl revival. Michele is best known for her TV role as Rachel Berry in Glee. Aaron Tveit won a Tony for Moulin Rouge! The Musical, and Nicholas Christopher has appeared in Hamilton and the 2023 Sweeney Todd revival. Choreography will be by Lorin Latarro (Waitress), with music supervision by Brian Usifer. Chess will be presented by arrangement with Three Knights, the Shubert Organization, and Robert Fox Ltd. Production dates, additional casting, and creative team details will be announced soon.

Sutton Foster and Hugh Jackson: Relationship leaves ex Deborra-Lee Furness 'devastated,' who files for divorce
Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster are reportedly living together in New York City, according to multiple sources, marking a major development in their relationship and leaving his estranged wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, 'shattered.' The Australian actors, who starred opposite each other in Broadway's The Music Man, are said to have taken their relationship to the next level following Jackman's split from Furness. A source told Australian publication New Idea that Foster has begun moving her belongings into Jackman's penthouse apartment. 'They're inseparable,' the source said. '[Sutton is] slowly migrating her things over to Hugh's place.' According to the report, Furness, 69, is deeply affected by the development. 'Deb is shattered knowing Sutton is making the penthouse her own — the place she poured her soul into,' a source said, adding that she is also concerned about the pace of Jackman's new relationship. 'She wants him to be happy — he deserves it and so do the kids — but Hugh's completely green when it comes to dating. She's concerned he's leaping into living with someone else way too soon,' the source added. Another friend reportedly told the outlet, 'It's almost unreal [for Deborra] seeing Sutton reap the rewards of all those years of her supporting Hugh.' Representatives for Jackman, Foster and Furness did not respond to requests for comment. Furness filed for divorce from the Deadpool & Wolverine star last week, after an agreement was reportedly reached privately. Their divorce has since been confirmed. According to Daily Mail, the pair worked out terms related to settlement, alimony, and future expenses for their two adopted children: Oscar, 25, and Ava, 19. 'They have worked out the details in advance and everything is ironed out,' a source told the Daily Mail. 'Both are coming out of this financially secure.' Furness later spoke publicly about the emotional impact of the divorce, referencing betrayal and spiritual resilience in a statement: 'My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal… I believe in a higher power… always working FOR us.' Jackman, 56, and Furness announced their separation in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage. Rumours of an affair between Jackman and Foster surfaced shortly afterwards, fuelled by their growing closeness during their Broadway run. Foster, who filed for divorce from her second husband Ted Griffin in October 2024, has been spotted holding hands with Jackman and sharing public displays of affection in recent months. One source revealed, 'They are 100 percent together and are in love and want to spend the rest of their lives together.'

Deborra-Lee finally ends it with Hugh Jackman after $250M battle
Deborra-Lee Furness has officially filed for divorce from Hugh Jackman in New York, nearly two years after the couple announced their separation. The filing, submitted on May 23, comes after the pair reached a comprehensive settlement to divide their estimated $250 million fortune. According to court documents obtained by all major matters—including alimony, child support arrangements, and spousal support—have been resolved privately. The divorce is uncontested, and only a judge's signature remains for the process to be finalized. Furness and Jackman, who share two adopted children, Oscar and Ava, were married for 27 years. The couple had no prenuptial agreement, which reportedly delayed the divorce filing. Insiders claim that while there was some negotiation over financial terms, the final agreement satisfied both parties. Furness will receive a substantial spousal support payment. Sources say Furness believed Jackman was involved in an emotional affair with actress Sutton Foster, his current partner. While there was no confirmed infidelity, the nature of Jackman's relationship with Foster contributed to Furness's emotional distress. Jackman and Foster were first linked during the pandemic while co-starring in The Music Man. Their relationship became public in January 2025. In her statement, Furness emphasized healing and personal growth, expressing gratitude for the lessons learned from their nearly three-decade-long marriage. Jackman is currently performing in the off-Broadway play Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes alongside Ella Beatty. Despite the personal upheaval, both Jackman and Furness have remained amicable and committed to co-parenting. Their split marks one of the most high-profile Hollywood divorces in recent years due to the lack of a prenup and Jackman's substantial career earnings.
