Carnivore influencer who only ate protein and dairy foods dies aged 66 - as tributes pour in from the wellness community

Daily Mail17-07-2025
A fitness influencer who advocated eating a carnivore diet has died aged 66.
Alex Cannon passed away on Sunday July 6, his family confirmed via social media on Thursday.
The health enthusiast adopted the controversial lifestyle three years ago and said it helped him lose weight and improve his mental health.
The diet involves only eating protein-rich foods such as meat, eggs, seafood, fish, some dairy products, and water and excludes any fruit or vegetables.
In a statement on social media, his family said: 'It breaks our hearts to share that our Mum's soulmate and our wonderful Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Sunday 6th July
'There are no words for the pain or the emptiness he's left behind. He was the one we all looked to, and losing him so unexpectedly has shaken our world in ways we still can't believe.
'Everyone who knew and loved him is welcome to come and join us in celebrating his life
'There will never be another like him. We miss him more than words can say Forever our Mum's rock. Forever our Dad. Forever our hero.'
Tributes have poured for the retired civil servant underneath the touching tribute.
Emma Flanagan said: 'He was such a wonderful person, the passion he always had on our event days was truly special! He was respected by so many within our swimming community. He will be so missed.
'I will be forever grateful for the times we shared on the road, poolside and revolutionising Swimming together.
'I'm sending you all my strength and love during this difficult time. Thinking of you, Soph and Alex.'
While another called Alex 'a role model' and said: 'From being my Swim teacher, to my coach, to my colleague - but most importantly my friend. Dream team forever.
'Couldn't of asked for a better role model in so many ways, his impact on myself and others is one that will last forever. I am so sorry for your loss, there is no one quite like Alex xxx.'
One of the most widely seen tributes was made by American carnivore influencer who goes by the name HomeSteadHow.
In a video uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday, the vlogger said that Alex had passed away peacefully in his sleep.
He added: 'At the request of his family I was honoured to put together a little video, a little tribute and some words for Alex to share the news with others.'
He went on to add the family did not know what had caused Alex's sudden death and were awaiting a coroner's report.
In the update, the YouTuber said: 'Alex's wife shared the coroner's report and update with me and we put together a statement that the family would like me to share so that's what I'm going to do here.'
He went on to say: 'I wanted to share an important update especially for those who have been asking questions and expressing concern about the passing of Alex Cannon. According to the official coroner's report, Alex's death was related to a genetic heart condition.
'It was not linked to diet or lifestyle. The report indicated that his heart simply couldn't pump blood effectively due to a hereditary issue.
He went on to say that 'many in the carnivore community looked up to Alex and were inspired by his incredible transformation and health journey.'
'This news may bring some peace of mind. His passing was not related to diet but something entirely out of his control.'
The YouTuber added that the loss was 'beyond heartbreaking' and asked supporters to keep Alex's memory in their thoughts and prayers.
Alex had been on the carnivore diet since 2022 and had attended and hosted talks on the controversial topic.
In videos posted to his social media, the influencer revealed he had lost at least 47lbs and claimed he was 'the happiest I'd been for many many years'.
In November 2023, he tried the 'lion diet challenge' which saw him drink water, take iodine, electrolytes and only eat meat.
Since changing his diet he said he no longer had acid reflux or bloating and had stopped wearing size XL clothing, dropping down to a medium.
Alex also claimed he had been on three blood pressure tablets before starting the diet but no longer needed them and said his sleep had improved and he didn't even snore anymore.
He added: 'I've eliminated my mental health issues, my weight-loss issues and my physical health issues, I just feel like superman.
The diet, which has been made popular by influencers including Joe Rogan, is not recommended by doctors who support a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables.
Diets high in red meat have been linked to multiple health problems including heart disease and cancer and experts have also warned that carnivore diet proponents are at higher risk of conditions like scurvy and even cancer due to its lack of vitamin C and fibre.

‘Molly-Mae needs to take a leaf out of Paris Fury's book' say fans as ‘super mum' reveals everything she's done in 1 day

PARIS Fury has been hailed a 'super mum' after revealing everything she's been up to in just one day during the summer holidays. Not only were fans pleased as Paris, 35, 'kept it real' with her content, but others claimed that her sister-in-law, Molly-Mae Hague, 26, should 'take a leaf out of her book.' 4 4 4 4 Yesterday, the mum-of-seven, who just days ago revealed the little-known way families can save cash, took to social media to open up on her busy day. Posting on her Instagram stories, the blonde beauty, who recently tied the knot for the third time to retired heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury, 37, got candid on feeling as though she had 'hit a brick wall.' As she filmed herself sitting on a bed, the mother, who is said to have a secret wealth that is nothing to do with the Gypsy King's £100million fortune, said: 'I'm changing the bedding. 'Does anybody else just get like halfway through Monday jobs and think, I've hit the brick wall, don't want to go anymore.' The influencer then added: 'I've done the washing, been to the supermarket, stripped beds, kids [are] off school and I have hit the wall.' Clearly overwhelmed, the star, who is said to receive a weekly paycheck of £3,800, shared her desire to "hide" from her youngsters. 'I might just hide in the bedroom for half an hour," she continued. Paris' short clip has since been reshared online, with fans praising the busy mum and hailing her an 'inspiration.' Meanwhile, others claimed that Molly-Mae, who was recently slammed after refusing to discipline her daughter Bambi, two, and came under fire in 2022 for her "24 hours in a day" comments, should take a leaf out of Paris' book. One person said: ' Molly-Mae needs to take a leaf out of your book Paris. Super mum!!' Inside mum-of-seven Paris Fury's glam bank holiday weekend away from the kids - from travelling in a private jet to night out partying with Tyson Another agreed: 'Molly-Mae is on a Persil advert but has probably never done a wash in her life. Love Paris, she's great.' A third commented: 'You're the best mum, I don't know how you do it. Respect to you.' Inside Tyson and Paris Fury's love story WITH world champ titles, multiple kids and a beautiful wife by his side, Tyson is much-loved by the nation, but his romance with Paris dates back to their teenage years. Paris met Fury when she was just 15 at a mutual friend's wedding. However, it wasn't until a year later, when their paths crossed again on a night out in Doncaster for her 16th birthday, that they began dating. Paris explained: "He was my first boyfriend as I was not allowed a boyfriend until the age of 16. He is the only boyfriend I have had. 'Tyson would train in boxing during the week and then come and see me at the weekend. I would always be so excited at the thought of seeing him.' In 2008, they tied the knot in front of 400 guests and slept together for the first time on the night of their wedding. In 2016, Fury's mental health issues, cocaine and alcohol abuse, and intolerable mood swings threatened their seemingly unbreakable marriage. On occasion, Paris would even contemplate leaving - packing her bags and getting into her car. However, she'd just stop herself - admitting she couldn't leave Tyson to "crash and burn". One woman added: 'You keep it real Paris.' Whilst someone else penned: 'You're the most amazing woman! I follow you, read your books. You are an inspiration Paris. At the same time, many other parents could relate to Paris, as one mother admitted: 'I know the feeling.' A second chimed in: 'Omg feel your pain.' Meanwhile, one mum confessed: 'Yes true, I'm the same at the moment.'

Australian reveals the details that 'blew her mind' when she first moved to London - including the speed of deliveries and the 'historic' buildings Former gymnast Amie Elizabeth took to TikTok to share the surprising details READ MORE: American woman living in the UK reveals the British attitude she finds totally shocking as she says: 'I thought I knew England. I was wrong.' An Australian woman who now lives in England has revealed the differences that shock her friends when they visit her in London. Former gymnast Amie Elizabeth took to TikTok to share 'the things that blow Australians minds about living in the UK'. Sharing the clip with her 11,000 followers, the Aussie, who moved to the British capital two years ago, listed the details that surprised her pals the most after they experienced Britain for the first time. Amie, who works for a sports organisation in the UK, admitted that she now takes those aspects 'for granted'. She explained that she had recently had a group of fellow Aussie friends come to visit her in the UK, and that she had been reminded of all the traits that shocked her two years ago. Beginning the video, she said: 'Some friends came to visit me from Australia recently and these are the things that blew their minds about living in the UK that I just thought were so cute because obviously I've been here for two years now so you take them for granted when you're living here. 'I often p**s middle aged British people off in my comments because I am always on here comparing what it's like to live in Australia compared to the UK.' She began by pointing out the differences between the speed of delivery services in the UK compared to Australia - a privilege many take for granted. 'The first one was Amazon same-day delivery,' she revealed. An Australian woman who now lives in England has revealed the differences that shock her friends when they visit her in London. Former gymnast Amie Elizabeth, pictured 'My friend forgot one of their phone chargers, and so we ordered her a new phone charger off of Amazon. We ordered it like 8am and arrived by 10pm, and she was like wow, what.' Her friend wasn't the only one dumbfounded by the seemingly limitless possibilities of online shopping in the UK. Amie said: 'When I first moved here, I was like mind-blown by the sheer amount of stuff you can buy off of Amazon that was like same-day or next-day delivery.' Secondly, Amie's friends pointed out the 'beautiful' and 'historic' buildings in England. 'The second one was all of the beautiful buildings that just hold so much history in them,' said the content creator. 'When I first moved here I was so mesmerised by all of the beautiful historic buildings. 'You'll walk through central London, and you'll see a McDonald's in this beautiful old Victorian building, and you're like why do they let them put McDonald's in there?' Finally, Amie continued: 'My friend was like I genuinely think you need a whole month to spend in London to unpack it and I was like no, babes, you need an entire lifetime to see all of London and even then you won't see it. 'Anyway, this is just a reminder that I moved to London because I freaking love it here,' she concluded. Former gymnast Amie Elizabeth (pictured) took to TikTok to share 'the things that blow Australians minds about living in the UK' Reaction: Brits in the comments were delighted by the praise. One wrote: 'Welcome I'm so pleased to see you appreciate the historic buildings... but go out in the beautiful countryside and experience England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland' Brits in the comments were delighted by the praise. One wrote: 'Welcome I'm so pleased to see you appreciate the historic buildings... but go out in the beautiful countryside and experience England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.' A second said: 'If you love history you will need to live a life time in Britain.' One individual who had made the opposite journey, emigrating from London to Australia, pointed to one detail of British life they missed most. 'As a Brit now living in Aus I miss the supermarkets with food and alcohol being in one place,' they wrote. Responding in the comments, Amie wrote: 'Oh my god, you're so right! This blows their minds too and how cheap alcohol is in the UK!' Elsewhere on her TikTok, Amie has described numerous differences between the two nations, including differences in 'work culture', such as Australians' behaving in a way that is more 'direct' than Brits. 'For British people, Australians can be quite direct but directness is something I thrive in in a work environment,' she said. 'British people don't do this at all, they're so overly polite with each other. The politeness level here can be quite exhausting,' she said.
