Questions surround severity of thumb injury to Texas' OF Max Belyeu Though reports indicated Belyeu was done for the season, this is not the case.
Texas junior outfielder Max Belyeu is officially listed as "week-to-week" with a thumb injury that will require surgery, according to the Longhorns baseball team release.
Belyeu, a projected top prospect in the upcoming MLB Draft, suffered the injury during Friday night's series opener against Missouri. The Longhorns remain hopeful he can return in time for the NCAA Tournament, if not sooner.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound right fielder was in the midst of a breakout season prior to the injury. In 24 games, Belyeu slashed .358/.465/.642 with six home runs, seven doubles, a triple, 22 RBIs, 24 strikeouts and 16 walks — all career-best paces for the left-handed hitter.
Known for his above-average pull-side power, refined bat-to-ball skills and a plus arm, Belyeu had been gaining traction as a potential first-round pick in the MLB draft.
Despite early speculation that the injury could sideline him for the remainder of the season, Texas officials have stated his status is being evaluated weekly. But the fact it needs surgery brings in the real possibility that his season is over.

MILWAUKEE — Spencer Schwellenbach pitched his first career complete game, Michael Harris II and Ronald Acuña Jr. each hit a two-run homer and the Atlanta Braves beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-2 on Wednesday. Atlanta took two of three at Milwaukee, its first series victory since winning two of three at Boston from May 16-18. Schwellenbach (5-4) allowed five hits, struck out nine and walked none while throwing 105 pitches, 76 for strikes. He has worked at least six innings in seven consecutive starts. Curry, the 2023 American Century Championship winner, is back in the field to defend his 2023 title in the 36th annual tournament July 9-13 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. The Golden State Warriors star had to miss the events in 2024 to play basketball for the gold-medal-winning Team USA at the Paris Olympics. In the 2023 American Century Championship at Edgewood, Curry drained an 18-foot putt on hole No. 18 to take a dramatic win over Mardy Fish. Fish won the ACC in 2024. When Curry won the ACC in 2023, he made a hole-in-one on the 152-yard 7th hole, followed by a celebratory sprint from tee to green, which was among the most prominent viral sports video highlights of 2023.
