Person killed changing tire on US 29 in Greensboro; man charged with DWI
GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — One person is dead and another has life-threatening injuries after they were struck by an impaired driver while changing a tire on US 29 in Greensboro, according to the Greensboro Police Department.
At around 12:31 a.m. on Friday, first responders came to the area of US 29 North and South Holden Road after getting a report of a crash with injuries.
Investigators say that Robert Lynn Faison Jr., 25, of Greensboro, was driving a 2022 Honda Accord northbound on US 29 when he left the roadway to the right and struck a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was disabled on the shoulder with their hazard lights on.
2 people were outside the Jeep and trying to change a flat tire at the time that Faison struck them. One of those who were struck died as a result of the crash, the other was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Faison was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Investigators say that Faison was impaired at the time of the crash. He is being charged with driving while impaired, failing to maintain lane control, failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision, felony serious injury by vehicle and felony death by vehicle.
The GPD's Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and is investigating the crash.

Hero on horseback helps NJ cops nab hit-and-run driver
It's the real-life Lone Ranger! A suburban cowboy and his trusty steed, Shiny, have been credited with helping southern New Jersey police identify and arrest an alleged hit-and-run driver. Italo Lalvay Guaillasaca, 22, allegedly fled the scene after crashing into a car parked on Middleton Street in Riverside Township, a suburb of Philadelphia, on the morning of May 31.
