India-Pakistan conflict: Govt shuts 32 airports for civilian flight operation till May 15

With the conflict between India and Pakistan reaching a boiling point, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and other relevant aviation authorities have issued a series of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) announcing the temporary closure of 32 airports across northern and western India for all civil flight operations.
According to the Press Information Bureau of India (PIB), the closure will be effective from May 9 to May 14, 2025. The measure is being taken due to 'operational reasons'.

Tensions between the two nations reached an all-time high as Pakistan and India launched air assets in their respective territories. The following airports are affected by this NOTAM:
Adhampur
Ambala
Amritsar
Awantipur
Bathinda
Bhuj
Bikaner
Chandigarh
Halwara
Hindon
Jaisalmer
Jammu
Jamnagar
Jodhpur
Kandla
Kangra (Gaggal)
Keshod
Kishangarh
Kullu Manali (Bhuntar)
Leh
Ludhiana
Mundra
Naliya
Pathankot
Patiala
Porbandar
Rajkot (Hirasar)
Sarsawa
Shimla
Srinagar
Thoise
Uttarlai
All civil flight activities at these airports will remain suspended during his period.
Apart from this, the AAI has also extended the temporary closure of 25 segments of Air Traffic Service (ATS) routes within the Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Regions (FIRs) due to operational reasons. As per the respective NOTAMS, the routes will remain unavailable from ground level to an 'unlimited altitude' until May 14.
'Airlines and flight operators have been advised to plan alternate routings as per current air traffic advisories. The temporary closure is being managed in coordination with relevant ATC units to ensure safety and minimise disruption,' AAI said in a statement.

NEW DELHI: The desire for international travel among Indians is triggering aviation boom, says the Airports Authority of India. And smaller airports, compared to those in capital cities, have picked up patronage. The AAI 'Air Traffic Data' for the first three quarters of this financial year shows nearly two crore flyers went abroad this year, marking a 7% rise in international travel. The overall passenger growth stands at 5.6% with 105.15 million flyers taking to the skies in April-June 2025 over the 99.54 million of April-June 2024. The domestic growth figure is 5.3% with 85.32 million travelling this quarter as compared to 81 million in the corresponding period last year.

Army's Central Command flags off 2000km Himalayan motorcycle expedition to celebrate Op Sindoor

Dehradun: The Indian Army 's Central Command on Friday flagged off a 25-member motorcycle expedition, covering a distance of around 2000 km, to remote areas of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand. The rally celebrates the success of Operation Sindoor and aims to share stories of Kargil heroes with students and youths to motivate and encourage them to join the armed forces. Central Command's General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta launched the second edition of the 13-day expedition, named Integrated Himalayan Motorcycle Expedition-II (I-HiMEx-II), from Dehradun in the presence of senior Army officers, secretary of Uttarakhand tourism department, and officials from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd and Royal Enfield. Public relations officer (Defence), Dehradun, Lt Col Manish Srivastava said the expedition will cover several Himalayan areas – including Gauchar, Joshimath, Rattana Kona, Mana, Niti Pass, Rimkhim, Kurktui, and Thagla – and conclude in Roorkee. "The expedition endeavours to pay tributes to our fallen heroes while showcasing the uncharted beauty of the Himalayas. It aims to honour the Kargil war heroes, celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor, and inspire local youth to join the Indian armed forces.
