How Do Unusual Items Influence Profit?
For anyone who wants to understand Hosen Group's profit beyond the statutory numbers, it's important to note that during the last twelve months statutory profit gained from S$314k worth of unusual items. While it's always nice to have higher profit, a large contribution from unusual items sometimes dampens our enthusiasm. When we analysed the vast majority of listed companies worldwide, we found that significant unusual items are often not repeated. And that's as you'd expect, given these boosts are described as 'unusual'. If Hosen Group doesn't see that contribution repeat, then all else being equal we'd expect its profit to drop over the current year.

Our Take On Hosen Group's Profit Performance
We'd posit that Hosen Group's statutory earnings aren't a clean read on ongoing productivity, due to the large unusual item. Because of this, we think that it may be that Hosen Group's statutory profits are better than its underlying earnings power. The silver lining is that its EPS growth over the last year has been really wonderful, even if it's not a perfect measure. The goal of this article has been to assess how well we can rely on the statutory earnings to reflect the company's potential, but there is plenty more to consider. With this in mind, we wouldn't consider investing in a stock unless we had a thorough understanding of the risks. In terms of investment risks, we've identified 2 warning signs with Hosen Group, and understanding these bad boys should be part of your investment process.
This note has only looked at a single factor that sheds light on the nature of Hosen Group's profit. But there are plenty of other ways to inform your opinion of a company. A few weeks back, the company announced a flurry of AI-backed improvements to its Arbor Edge Defense and DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) Solutions, to recognize and mitigate threats in real time. This improvement leverages AI to automate defenses against the ever-sophisticated attacks. According to the company, this helps clients mitigate up to 80% of all DDoS attacks without the need for human analysis. While we acknowledge the potential of NTCT as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. Applied Materials Falls on Weak Forecast, China Slowdown

Applied Materials (AMAT, Financials) shares fell more than 10% in extended trading Thursday after the semiconductor equipment maker issued a weaker-than-expected forecast for the current quarter, citing macroeconomic and policy headwinds. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 6 Warning Signs with IST:AEFES. For the fiscal third quarter, the company reported adjusted earnings of $2.48 per share on revenue of $7.3 billion, topping LSEG estimates of $2.36 per share and $7.22 billion in revenue. Net income rose to $1.78 billion, or $2.22 per diluted share, from $1.71 billion, or $2.05 per share, a year earlier. The company projected adjusted earnings of $2.11 per share on $6.7 billion in revenue for the current quarter, below analysts' expectations of $2.39 per share and $7.34 billion. Chief Executive Gary Dickerson said macroeconomic and policy conditions are creating increased uncertainty and lower visibility, with its China business particularly affected. Applied Materials cited a large backlog of export license applications and said it is assuming none will be approved in the next quarter. The company expects fourth-quarter revenue to decline due to reduced demand from China and uneven orders from leading-edge customers. Sales in its semiconductor systems unit rose 10% from last year to $5.43 billion, beating estimates. The company was included in an Apple initiative to expand U.S. chip manufacturing, with plans to make more manufacturing equipment in Austin, Texas, a move praised by President Donald Trump earlier this month.
