Kendrick Lamar Loves His Buick GNX

There's no doubt rapper Kendrick Lamar is a car guy who absolutely loves his 1987 Buick GNX. And now that the man will be entertaining millions upon millions during the Superbowl this Sunday, a light is being shined on him and his American muscle car.Back in the summer of 2024 we covered how Lamar shared some photos on social media of his newly purchased Buick GNX. Nobody knew at the time the rapper was going to be featuring the car heavily for his surprise album which dropped in November.
That album, simply titled GNX, is obviously at least in part a tribute to the 80s muscle car. When Lamar was posting about the purchase during the summer, he also put up a photo of him and his cousin 'Pat Dogg' when they were kids. In that image, the two were playing with a remote controlled Buick GNX
In other words, the guy has been dreaming of owning such a ride since he was young.
Who can blame him? Other than the almost entirely black motif, the GNX doesn't look particularly impressive. In fact, it looks like a lot of ho-hum cars from back in the day, boxy and boring. But under the hood is a potent turbocharged V6.
The GNX was the swan song for the Buick Grand National, named after the NASCAR Winston Cup Grand National Series in celebration of Buick winning. That led to the creation of the performance model in 1982, lasting two generations and finally ending with the 1987 model year. The car has quite the cult following today after ruffling plenty of feathers in the 80s.
While we don't know anything about Kendrick Lamar's planned Superbowl halftime show, there's always a possibility his Buick GNX could be featured in it. Wouldn't that be something, exposing even more people to the sinister black car that could smoke just about anything produced in the same year?

President Donald Trump is aiming to speed up commercial development of new-age aviation tech by reducing regulations administration says have hindered testing and production. Trump in an executive order directed the Federal Aviation Administration to expedite approval for routine commercial drone operations that retailers such as Amazon have said are crucial to expanding airborne deliveries. Orders that Trump signed will also allow manufacturers to begin testing flying cars and removed regulatory barriers his administration says are preventing supersonic over land passenger flights from being introduced in the United States. The changes will also allow drones to be used to be used in emergency response situations, including responding to wildfires, and long-distance cargo and medical delivery, the administration says. Trump's order establishes a pilot program for electrical vertical take-off and landing aircraft, known as eVTOLs, a type of flying car, that his administration hopes will lead to public private partnerships across the country. It is based on a 2017 program from the first Trump administration and will apply to emergency medical services, air taxis and cargo deliveries among other areas. The administration says the program will allow companies that are already conducting this type of testing, such as Joby's air taxi service, to partner with state, local and tribal governments. The California-based company plans to begin flight testing in Dubai within months and aims to launch passenger services on the aircraft in late 2025 or early 2026. Flying cars are coming! Here's how they could change the way you travel. Another order instructs the FAA to establish a standard for noise certification and lift a ban on overland supersonic flight. Kratsios said that advances in aerospace engineering and noise reduction have made over land supersonic flight safe, sustainable and commercially viable but federal regulations have grounded the speedy passenger flights and weakened U.S. companies' competitiveness. "The reality is that Americans should be able to fly from New York to LA in under four hours," Kratsios said. Trump separately established a federal task force to review and propose solutions to threats to America's airspace from personal unmanned aircraft and directed his administration to step up enforcement of civil and criminal laws against drone operators who endanger the public or violate airspace restrictions. The directives were issued with the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Summer Olympics on the horizon.

'I'm not glad or whatever,' Navarro told reporters when asked about Musk's new persona non grata status with the Trump administration. 'People come and go from the White House.' Musk was the chief cost-cutter at President Trump's new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) before his and Trump's relationship spectacularly flamed out over the past few days. A Toyota Tacoma pickup truck cost this woman just $500. It's either the best or worst project the TikToker has ever undertaken, according to her. Luckily, this Tacoma is from a golden era for all-terrain vehicles. TikToker and YouTuber Chloe Kuo (@chloekuotaco) posted the video on May 28. It's since gone viral. "I know $500 for a Tacoma is relatively inexpensive, but this one basically fell in my lap after some unexpected family stuff," she says to start the video. 'Which is not perfect. I mean, somebody named her 'Beater' for a reason.' The Tacoma is a 2002 model with more than 200,000 miles. 'This thing is basically a time capsule from when Tacomas were small, simple, functional, and built like tanks,' she said. 'So I immediately took it off-road for some real-world testing. And she did an awesome job at Diablo Dropoff. The shocks made the truck feel like I was riding a pogo stick.' The Diablo Dropoff is an off-road trail in Southern California's Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, known for its challenging terrain. She continued, 'But, honestly, having a truck I don't have to worry about beating is kind of amazing. So, yeah, this is either the best $500 I've ever spent or the start of a very expensive mistake. But yeah, let's build it or blow it up.' In the comments, used car owners couldn't believe the deal Kuo got on the Tacoma. 'Nah, where are you finding a $500 Tacoma????' one wrote. 'Where I live, people be asking $4,000 for 350k miles and rust.' A second user agreed, '200k miles is barely breaking in for a 2002.' A third user wrote, 'They gave you GOLD. That truck will outlast any other car or truck you will ever own.' Someone else wrote, 'Thing's got a factory moonroof. That's a rare option.' Can You Really Buy a 2002 Toyota Tacoma for $500? It doesn't seem like the commenters on TikTok are blowing smoke in Kuo's direction. A quick Carfax search shows that a used 2002 Toyota Tacoma can range in price anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000, depending on mileage and condition. So she got a screaming deal. In general, reviewers praise the 2002 Tacoma's durability and off-road handling. 'This truck does it all,' wrote one owner. Carfax, an organization that tracks used car service history, agrees. 'It's ideal for drivers who need an inexpensive small pickup for professional or recreational use, rather than a bigger, bulkier, and less fuel-efficient full-size model,' it reports. What is the Golden Era of the Tacoma? Well, according to a vote of Reddit's r/ToyotaTacoma, the third generation of Tacoma from 2016-2023 is the favorite. More than 228 voters chose the 3rd Gen model years. Kuo's 2002 Tacoma falls under the 1.5 Gen (2001-2004), and it got 33 votes. One Redditor suggested, 'I like to think that a majority of the owners on here are 3rd Gen so it may be skewed. I've driven all three gens, and I like the 2nd the best.
