Jack White lashes out at Trump and Musk with changed lyrics

Yahoo12-03-2025

Jack White took another swipe at Donald Trump and Elon Musk while performing as part of his ongoing global No Name tour, referring to the US president as 'some bloated a**hole orange f***ing gorilla'.
The American rock star is a noted and vocal opponent of Trump, having riffed on the hit White Stripes song 'Icky Thump' by selling 'Icky Trump' T-shirts during his 2016 campaign.
In November last year, he also shared a lengthy post expressing his dismay at the 2024 election result, claiming it was 'dumbfounding' that Trump had 'succeeded in pulling the wool over so many Americans' eyes not once, but twice'.
A recent clip has emerged of White's show in Boston last month, which saw him close his Canada and north-eastern US dates with two nights at the Roadrunner.
Playing his 2018 single 'Corporation', which featured on his third solo album Boarding House Reach, White switched out the original lyric of: 'I'm thinking about starting a corporation. Who's with me?'
Instead, he sang: 'I was thinking about becoming an oligarch, who's with me?'
As he continued, he brought in a takedown of Musk over the Tesla CEO's hugely controversial involvement in the current administration: 'I was thinking about taking government subsidies and starting my own electric car company. Who's with me?' he sang.
'I'm thinking about not being elected. Never holding a public office. Never serving one day of military service. But somehow having the authority to control parts of the US government. Who's with me?'
He continued: 'I'm thinking about not being properly vetted by the Supreme Court or Congress, just doing whatever the hell I want because some f***ing bloated asshole orange f***ing gorilla who's failed at every business he's ever ran wants me to be his golf cart partner.'
Last year, White threatened to sue Trump's campaign over the use of The White Stripes' hit 'Seven Nation Army', which featured in a since-deleted clip posted to X by his director of communications, Margo Martin.
'Oh... Don't even think about using my music you fascists,' White wrote in the caption of the Instagram post. 'Lawsuit coming from my lawyers about this (to add to your five thousand others.) Have a great day at work today Margo Martin.'
He continued: 'And as long as I'm here, a double f*** you DonOLD for insulting our nation's veterans at Arlington you scum. You should lose every military family's vote immediately from that if ANYTHING makes sense anymore.'
In September, the band appeared to make good on their threat as White shared the first page of a copyright infringement lawsuit to his Instagram page on 9 September, captioning it: 'This machine sues fascists.'
White today (12 March) begins a string of four shows in Japan before returning to the US for a lengthy run of gigs that will conclude in Louisville, Kentucky.

Here's what Trump gifted Carney the last time the leaders met in Washington

OTTAWA — It may not be his favourite team but Prime Minister Mark Carney is now the proud owner of a Washington Capitals jersey emblazoned with his name and the number 24 thanks to U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump gifted Carney, a die-hard Edmonton Oilers fan, the framed and mounted jersey after the leaders sat down for their first in-person meeting in the Oval Office last month, according to a public registry of disclosures. That meeting laid the groundwork for what Canadian political and business leaders hope leads to a reprieve from Trump's global tariffs on autos, steel and aluminum. It is a deal the two leaders have yet to lock in as they meet again, this time in Alberta, as Canada plays host to the G7 leaders' summit. Gift-giving between leaders is a diplomatic custom during official visits. Another round is unfolding this week as Carney welcomes leaders from across Europe and other parts of the world for the G7 gathering. For his part, the last time Carney and the rest of the Canadian delegation saw Trump, they left behind a photograph of a famous football game played between Canadian and American soldiers several months before D-Day in 1944, snapped by a Canadian military photographer. It was an image meant to signal the coming together over sports, and amid global uncertainty, the latter of which Carney is trying to bridge with a volatile Trump administration. Canada also gifted Trump a hat and golf gear from the Kananaskis Country Golf Course, given that Kananaskis is where he and other G7 leaders are meeting. It appears Trump stuck with the sports theme for his last gift to Carney, too. The Washington Capitals are not only Trump's hometown team, but also where Russian-born NHL star Alexander Ovechkin plays. Trump mentioned Ovechkin by name during his Oval Office meeting with Carney last month, which began with a wide-ranging question-and-answer session with the U.S. president, while Carney and other Canadian ministers watched on. And while the president may not have gotten the team quite right for Carney, who cheers for the Edmonton Oilers, he nailed his number, given that Carney serves as Canada's 24th prime minister. Most Canadians will likely be relieved that the president chose that digit over the number 51, given how often Trump has repeated his desire for Canada to become the U.S.'s '51st state.' staylor@ National Post Get more deep-dive National Post political coverage and analysis in your inbox with the Political Hack newsletter, where Ottawa bureau chief Stuart Thomson and political analyst Tasha Kheiriddin get at what's really going on behind the scenes on Parliament Hill every Wednesday and Friday, exclusively for subscribers. Tesla and the Other American Car That Are Way Cheaper Due To Trump's Tariffs

The Trump Administration's imposition of tariffs on vehicles and car parts made outside of the United States have turned the auto market on its head. Most economists seem to agree that the tariffs will increase costs for nearly all automakers and consumers will pay the price. Even cars with famously American nameplates, like Ford and GM, will likely see vehicle prices increase, perhaps by thousands of dollars per vehicle. But two automakers seem poised to benefit from the turmoil. Here's how the tariffs will affect the overall market and who the likely winners will be if they remain in place. Read Next: Trending Now: As reported by CNBC, several industry analysts see Tesla and Rivian as winning the tariffs war, at least as it comes to auto manufacturers. These two companies are among the few who produce 100% of their vehicles in the United States, making them obvious winners over foreign manufacturers like Honda and Toyota. However, Tesla and Rivian also have an edge over domestic manufacturers like Ford and GM. According to Daniel Roesak, an analyst for Bernstein, 'Tesla wins, Detroit bleeds.' Roeska thinks Tesla in particular is 'better insulated' from trade risk and the 'clear structural winner' of Trump's tariff policy. Check Out: UBS analyst Joseph Spak agrees with Roesak, saying both Tesla and competitor Rivian could 'fare better' since they both produce 100% of their vehicles in America. The stock market seemed to agree with Spak, as Rivian shares popped by 7% the day after Trump announced the 25% tariffs on auto makers. Since the goal of Trump's tariffs is to protect American businesses and allow them to compete on a level playing field, it would seem logical to think that the big legacy American auto makers, like GM and Ford, should benefit as well. Unfortunately, in today's multinational economy, hardly anything truly gets produced 100% domestically and that's definitely true in the case of Ford and GM. According to Bloomberg, for example, nearly half the vehicles GM sold in America in 2024 were built abroad. Ford is a bit more American-focused, but still assembles about 21% of its cars overseas, according to Ford Media. That means that even these most American of companies still rely heavily on overseas parts and production – thus subjecting them to some of the very tariffs designed to protect them. Spak sees the price of Ford and GM cars spiking by as much as $4,000 to $5,000 per vehicle if the companies pass through the cost of the tariffs. Ford would likely be shielded more than GM, as it has more domestic production, but in both cases, prices are expected to rise. For now, auto pricing is in a nebulous place. Dealers of all brands are making whatever defensive adjustments they can without fully committing to one direction or the other, as the tariffs may vanish as quickly as they were implemented. On April 29, for example, Trump already softened the most draconian aspects of the tariffs, according to Reuters and further reductions may — or may not — be on the horizon. Given the current environment, many analysts suggest that if you're already in the market for a new car, it might make sense to move sooner rather than later. Prices are unlikely to fall in the current environment and if the tariffs remain in place, they may very well jump higher. Justin Bieber Celebrates First Father's Day Inside $26 Million Beverly Hills Mansion—as His Cryptic Instagram Posts Concern Fans

Pop star Justin Bieber celebrated his first Father's Day with wife Hailey and their 9-month-old son, Jack Blues, inside their $26 million California mansion—hours before sparking serious concern among fans by sharing a series of erratic Instagram posts about his 'anger issues.' The 31-year-old 'Baby' hitmaker went on a 24-hour Instagram spree that began with a series of posts documenting his Father's Day at home, before it took a dark turn when he began sharing photos and videos of himself with what appeared to be drug paraphernalia, while also hitting out at his fans and followers for voicing their concern about his well-being. In total, Justin shared 20 posts, which ended with an early-morning video that appears to have been taken in the backyard of the home he shares with Hailey, 28, and Jack. His barrage of online content came just hours after he and Hailey, who welcomed son Jack Blues Bieber in August 2024, kicked off their first Father's Day with a sweet and seemingly wholesome date night, after which they returned to their abode in order to spend the day with their son. The couple opted for a lowkey observance of the special day, which saw them lounging around their California dwelling and introducing Jack to the piano. Justin kicked off his Father's Day celebrations by taking to social media to share a close-up selfie featuring a fake hand with its middle finger up. He captioned the post, 'I'm not a dad to be f—ed with.' He then gushed about his luxe Father's Day gifts, which included two Prada backpacks, a new Apple laptop, and a $38,000 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watch. While showcasing his presents, he said, 'Happy daddy day to me.' He went on to reveal that he and Hailey had found time to step out of their stunning abode, sharing an image of his wife returning to their property, which he captioned: 'Made it home from a lil date night getaway.' Another snap saw Hailey and Jack cuddled up by the piano. In one video, Justin lay on the ground and zoomed the camera into his wife and son at the piano before showing off Jack's gold bracelet, which is engraved with his initials 'JBB' on the front. His wholesome Father's Day content took a turn when he began sharing screenshots of a text conversation between himself and an ex-friend. 'I will never suppress my emotions for someone. Conflict is a part of a relationship. If you don't like my anger, you don't like me,' read a message that appeared to be from Justin. The unidentified person responded, 'I'm not used to someone lashing out at me,' to which Justin seemingly replied, 'This friendship is officially over. I will never accept a man calling my anger lashing out.' Justin then addressed his fans' growing concerns about his state of mind, sharing a lengthy statement in which he confessed to being 'broken' and having 'anger issues.' He penned, 'People keep telling me to heal. Don't you think if I could have fixed myself I would have already? I know I am broken. I know I have anger issues. 'I tried to do the work my whole life to be like the people who told me I needed to be fixed like them. And it just keeps making me more tired and more angry. 'The harder I try to grow, the more focused on myself I am. Jesus is the only person who keeps me wanting to make my life about others because honestly, I'm exhausted thinking about myself lately, aren't you?' He captioned the statement with a middle finger emoji. In the comments section, fans begged him to take a break from 'social media' and 'ignore' the haters. They noted that he should 'focus' on himself and enjoy his time with Hailey and Jack. Justin's latest Instagram rant comes days after his wife marked a major milestone in her professional career when she sold her beauty brand, Rhode, to e.l.f Beauty for an historic $1 billion. The 28-year-old founder revealed that the takeover will see continuing her current role with her company while also serving as the brand's chief creative officer and head of innovation. Hailey will handle product innovation, marketing, and act as a strategic advisor. According to a press release, Rhode garnered the spot of No. 1 skin care brand in Earned Media Value, representing 367% year-over-year EMV growth. The model took to Instagram to reveal the news, confessing that she had 'big dreams' for her brand when she launched it in 2022. Just days earlier, she confessed that her $26 million marital mansion has become a safe haven amid seemingly endless public backlash over her seven-year marriage to Justin. The beauty brand founder spoke out about her experience of dealing with online hate and furious scrutiny, in a cover interview with Vogue, explaining how becoming a mother to Jack has prompted her to all but withdraw from the public eye so she can raise him privately away from prying eyes. Although Hailey is regularly pictured out and about at various events, she confessed to Vogue that, these days, she much prefers staying at home inside her seven-bedroom, 10-bathroom Beverly Hills, CA, property, which is situated safely inside a gated community, ensuring maximum privacy. 'I'm a cozy person. Our house is my element, and my sanctuary. It's where my heart is, for sure,' she told the outlet. Since welcoming their son in August 2024, the Biebers have been careful to avoid having him photographed in public, with Hailey noting that they limit family outings as much as possible in order to protect their son's privacy. 'We don't take him to a lot of places. We don't want anyone to…. I mean, you've just got to see how invasive it all is. It feels mean to put a baby into that,' she said. Luckily, the couple's home, which they purchased in 2020, was bought with babies in mind, with Hailey telling Vogue that she believes her son 'will love' the playground that sits at the center of their neighborhood, although she concedes that he's a little young to appreciate the space just yet. Aside from providing a 'safe' space in which to raise her child, Hailey also noted that the home has given her a haven in which to go through the 'high highs and low lows' of being postpartum, a period that she admitted saw her experiencing more 'self-hatred' than ever before. 'I cry a lot more than I did before,' she said, revealing that she is working on being vulnerable and allowing herself 'to feel what I'm feeling and be not okay, and be able to just really express that and feel safe with my friends to just be like, 'I'm losing it today.'' Their home serves as the ideal sanctuary for anyone hoping to remain away from prying eyes, thanks in large part to its location inside one of Los Angeles' 'most sought-after guard-gated' communities. Described in its original listing as being set 'in the middle of park-like grounds' that span more than 2.5 acres, the home was hailed as offering the utmost privacy and seclusion to its owners. The home features state-of-the-art amenities and comes complete with a stunning entrance area, an expansive living room, a formal dining room, a chef's kitchen, and a sensational theater room. It also boasts plenty of windows that overlook the lush landscaping and allow a flood of natural light into the space. The property also holds a lavish swimming pool, tennis court, and outdoor living and dining rooms with a barbecue, pizza oven, and koi pond. When heading upstairs, guests are met with six stunning bedrooms, including a primary suite with a separate sitting area, dual closets, and bathrooms with heated floors. According to its original listing, 'this estate is perfect for large scale entertaining, set in the middle of park-like grounds, completely private and secluded.' However, should the duo wish to take a break from the bright lights of Los Angeles, they head to their Palm Springs dwelling, which they purchased in 2023 for a jaw-dropping $16.6 million. Since snapping up the opulent abode, it has served as a vacation residence for the couple, who regularly host getaways with their friends inside the La Quinta dwelling. The home sits on an acre within Coachella Valley's Madison Club community, which A-listers such as Scooter Braun, Adele, Kris Jenner, and Kourtney Kardashian also call home. Their vacation rental was built in 2009 and boasts a French-inspired aesthetic along with seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The 10,000-square-foot property also has its very own guesthouse, tennis court, and a massive swimming pool.
