
Commissioner XI wins Hanif Mohammad Cup
Commissioner Karachi XI defeated Mayor Karachi XI by 8 wickets to win the Hanif Mohammad Cup Cricket Festival Match at the newly constructed Hanif Mohammad Cricket Ground at Jheel Park recently.
Commissioner XI's player Waqas Ali was declared Man of the Match for his brilliant unbeaten innings of 52 runs, which included 4 sixes and 3 fours.
Batting first, Mayor XI scored 82 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui scored 42 runs with the help of 2 sixes and 4 fours, while Metropolitan Commissioner Afzal Zaidi contributed 22 runs.
From Commissioner XI, Hamza Deen Mohammad took 3 wickets, while Ahmer Pasha, Yousuf Khan, and Abdul Qayyum took two wickets each. In reply, Commissioner XI chased down the target in 18 overs, losing just two wickets. Waqas Ali scored 52 not out, Abdul Qadir made 22, and Kamran Masih added 18 runs. From Mayor XI, Ikhlaq Ahmed and Aftab Qaimkhani took one wicket each.
Kashif Farooqi and Ghulam Mohammad Khan served as umpires while Nadeem Ahmed was the match referee. The 10-over match was captained by Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui for Mayor XI and Ahmer Pasha for Commissioner XI.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Karachi's Director Sports Ghulam Mohammad Khan expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab for naming a second ground after the legendary Hanif Mohammad. He also appealed to the mayor to dedicate cricket grounds to Javed Miandad and Iqbal Qasim and to establish stadiums named after Zaheer Abbas and Wasim Bari.

Independence Day celebrations: Sindh CM announces programmes
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced that this year's Independence Day celebrations will begin on August 1 and will be observed across the province under the banner of 'Marka-e-Haq.' Addressing a press conference here at the CM House on Wednesday alongside provincial ministers, the Chief Minister said that this year's celebrations will be in harmony with the theme 'Marka-e-Haq,' and the victory of this symbolic battle will be celebrated along with Independence Day. He emphasized the need to instill a sense of pride among citizens for being part of a free nation and to make them understand the emotions of enslaved nations. The CM stated that the federal government's economic progress program, 'Uraan Pakistan', will also be highlighted during the Independence festivities. 'We have made considerable progress in the economic sector over the past year,' he added. Murad Ali Shah announced a decorations competition, stating that private buildings, vehicles, and cars with the best decorations will be awarded prizes. He further announced that an Independence Day concert will be held at the National Stadium on the night of August 13 and 14, featuring a fireworks display. He shared the schedule of other celebratory events and said Independence Day event and concert will be organized at Rani Bagh Hyderabad on August 08 while another program would be organized in Sukkur on August 10. The CM said a cultural float will be taken out from Sea view to Boat Basin. He said a women's cycling rally would be organized from Karachi to Chaukhandi and Sindh Sports department would organize 114 events across the province. A marathon and traditional dinkey cart race would also be held on August 10 from Sea View to Frere Hall and a cricket match between Mayor XI and Ministers XI (CM noted humorously he's not being allowed to play). A cricket match between Qalandars XI and Bhitai XI at Moin Khan Academy would be held on August 9, where he will play for Qalandars XI. A boat race and concert would be held at Jehangir Kothari Stadium, CM said and claimed that Karachi will lead all cities in Independence Day celebrations and assured that the business community will receive full support from the government for their events. He said the August 11 is being observed as Minorities Day, and the Minorities Department will organize a major event. Additionally, a separate large-scale event will be held for persons with disabilities, in which he himself will participate. The Chief Minister announced an event on August 5 to protest against the revocation of Kashmir's special status. He also said that the event initially scheduled in March by the Chambers of Commerce will now be held in August. Efforts will be made to hold vintage car and heavy bike rallies, women's fairs, painting competitions, and musical contests. A mushaira (poetry symposium) and a rickshaw rally are also part of the celebration plans, the CM said and added that a human flag will be formed, and citizens from all walks of life are invited to participate. Murad Ali Shah urged the media to help awaken patriotic spirit in the nation. He directed the IGP and DIG Traffic to prepare a traffic plan and appealed to the public for cooperation. 'These rallies are for Pakistan. Please bear any minor inconvenience,' he appealed. He also extended formal invitations to all political parties to join the celebrations, stating that official invitations will be sent to them.

Super Striker bagged the Boys U-14 title. Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony and gave away the trophies, certificates and cash prizes to the winning teams. President, Pakistan Padel Federation, Muhammad Mateen, CEO, Mudassar Razak, Vice President, Syed Rehanuddin, Secretary General, Quratulain, Finance Secretary, Karima Bano, Secretary General, Pakistan Throwball Federation, Maqbool Ahmed, Sohail Vohra of Sport On and a large number of dignitaries and sports enthusiasts were also present on the occasion. In the mens category, Padel Star comprising brilliant duo of Aamil and Murtazain, emerged victorious in a gripping final against Katch Brothers which were represented by M. Azhar & Nafees Yaqoob. Padel Star won by 2-0 (6-3, 7-6) to claim the championship title. In the third place match, Tigers Team (Rayyan Younas & Abdullah) secured bronze via walkover (1-0) against Gar Gala Team (Farhan Mustafa & Abdul Rehman). In the women's category, TRIBS team comprising the skillful pair of Natalia and Natasha dominated the final against MUV team which was represented by Mehak Tehrani & Saira Umer. TRIBS won 2-0 (6-1, 8-6). The third place match saw Control X Power Team (Safina & Neha Khan) triumph over Sister Squad (Sher Beg & Saleena Beg) by 2-0 (7-5, 6-3) victory. In the Boys Under-14 category, the talented Super Striker Team (Azhar & Mustafa) outplayed Allawala Team (Ansarullah & Azhar Allawala) in the final to win by 2-0 (7-5, 6-0). The third place match was a thrilling encounter, with A2 Brothers (Arsh & Azan) edging past Shaheen Team (M. Bin Haris & Rayyan) by 2-1 (7-5, 5-7, 7-5). The winning teams received a handsome prizemoney of Rs 100,000 along with the trophies while the runner-up teams received Rs 50,000 with trophies. Third position holders received Rs 25,000 along with the trophies. The tournament was played under the auspices of Pakistan Padel Federation (PPF) and under the umbrella of the International Padel Federation (FIP), Padel Asia in collaboration with the Sindh Padel Association and Sport On Clifton, Karachi.

Additional Commissioner Karachi, Ghulam Mehdi Shah, who cut a celebratory cake to mark the occasion, congratulated the team for winning the tough match and expressed hope that the team's winning momentum would continue in future matches. Speaking at the event, the Additional Commissioner highlighted the importance of sports in promoting national solidarity and encouraged the players to remain prepared for future tournaments. The officials and the staff present on the occasion also commemorated Pakistan's fabulous war triumph over India. The atmosphere resonated with patriotic slogans of "Pakistan Zindabad" and "Long Live Pakistan Armed Forces" as participants expressed their unwavering support for the nation's security and unity.
