Amazon Fire TV Sticks fall up to 29% in surprise Bank Holiday sale

Daily Record24-05-2025

Amazon has slashed the price of its flagship Fire TV Stick range, including the 4K and 4K Max models
Amazon has launched a surprise bank holiday sale across its tech range, with discounts on the entire Fire TV Stick series and the Echo Dot speaker. Bargain-hunting Brits can now snap up hefty savings on all Fire TV Stick models, from HD to 4K Max.
The most substantial discounts are on the Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max, both of which have been reduced by £20. There's also £30 off the Fire TV Cube, the 4K Ultra HD gadget that's down from £139.99 to £109.99, and £15 off the latest Echo Dot speaker that's down from £54.99 to £39.99.
But our favourite deal is on the 4K Max – touted as Amazon's 'most powerful' streaming stick – that's now available for £49.99, down from £69.99. It provides a wealth of entertainment on streaming apps like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV+, allowing users to stream with 'lifelike' picture and sound in 4K Ultra HD.
It also supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and immersive Dolby Atmos audio, and offers access to millions of songs on music streaming platforms like Amazon Music and Spotify, as well as gaming with Amazon Luna. The 4K Max boasts 16GB of storage – double that of other models – providing twice as much space for apps, games and software updates, reports the Mirror.
With Wi-Fi 6E support and a compatible router, the device allows for seamless 4K streaming even with multiple internet-connected devices. Other streaming options include Sky's revamped Essential TV bundle, which provides more than 100 channels including Sky Atlantic, alongside free Netflix and Discovery+ access for £15 each month.
However, neither Sky or Amazon's Fire TV Stick provide free access to other streamers like Prime Video or Disney+, which must be joined separately. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max has racked up more than 9,000 five-star reviews on Amazon, where customers have described it as a 'game-changer' and the provider of the 'best streaming experience'.
One satisfied shopper said: "This device is a game-changer for streaming enthusiasts. The setup was incredibly straightforward, and within minutes, I was immersed in a world of stunning 4K Ultra HD content. The picture quality is crystal clear, with vibrant colours and sharp details that make every viewing experience captivating.
"The Fire TV Stick 4K Max is also impressively responsive. Navigating through menus and apps is quick and smooth thanks to its powerful processor. Overall, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is a must-have for anyone looking to elevate their home entertainment setup. Its superior performance, coupled with Wi-Fi 6E support, makes it an excellent investment for the best streaming experience."
Another said: "Great streaming stick with superb picture quality. This is great as it also does 4K as well, and the picture and sound are great. It's very compact, so it will fit most HDMI inputs on your TV. Very fast when it comes to operating the device, and selecting apps is smooth and trouble-free. Very happy with this purchase and even thinking about buying another one, even though they aren't the cheapest streaming stick on the market, they are well worth the money."
However, despite praising the gadget as 'brilliant', another customer noted a downside regarding the remote control, saying: "Brilliant Fire Stick. This was easy to set up, quickly ready to go and has been a dream. It is responsive, there's no lag time, the quality of the pictures are brilliant. Only (small) issue was that the remote is a bit flimsy and not particularly well made."

Lloyds Bank making huge change to accounts today with fees increased

Club Lloyds gives you one lifestyle benefit each year - you can choose between a Disney+ subscription, six cinema tickets, a magazine subscription, or 25% off certain food and drink brands Lloyds Bank is increasing the monthly fee on its Club Lloyds packaged bank account from today. The fee is rising from £3 a month to £5 a month. The monthly fee is still waived if you pay in £2,000 or more each month. A packaged bank account is a type of current account that includes additional benefits. ‌ Club Lloyds gives you one lifestyle benefit each year - you can choose between a Disney+ subscription, six cinema tickets, a magazine subscription, or 25% off certain food and drink brands. ‌ You also get access to the Club Lloyds Monthly Saver which pays 6.25% gross/AER on up to £400 a month, and up to 15% cashback at selected retailers. This monthly fee also applies to Club Lloyds Silver and Club Lloyds Platinum accounts, although you have to pay extra on top for these accounts. You pay an additional £11.50 a month for Silver account, and £22.50 a month for Platinum. ‌ But in some good news, Lloyds removed debit card foreign currency fees from April 14. This applies when you pay in the local currency - if you choose to pay in pound sterling, you may still be charged. Lloyds explains on its website: 'If you pay for something in pounds sterling, the provider of the currency conversion may still charge you. Some cash machine providers may also charge a fee.' The interest-free allowance on Club Lloyds arranged overdrafts has also increased from £50 to £100. A Lloyds spokesperson said: "Our Club Lloyds range offers our customers lifestyle benefits including Disney+, cinema tickets, and magazine subscriptions, and access to market leading mortgage and savings rates." ‌ It comes after Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland customers were hit with new overdraft charges from last month. The banking group previously had three overdraft rates, with the cheapest being 27.5% and this was available to some Club Lloyd members. The other rates that were available were 39.9% - this was the standard rate that the majority of customers were on - and 49.9%. Under the new system, the 39.9% remains in place and continues to be the rate most customers are on, and there is also still be a higher rate of 49.9%. But the banking group has also introduced new rates of 19.9% and 29.9%. It means someone who was on the cheapest rate of 27.5% as a Club Lloyds member, could have now been moved to the highest rate of 49.9% - but some customers have also seen their rate go down to the 19.9% rate.

Fire TV Stick users get 48-hour alert - popular feature will be blocked tomorrow

Some Fire TV Stick users may need to upgrade their devices this week to continuing watching Netflix. If you love a good old Netflix boxset binge and have an older Fire TV Stick plugged into the rear of your screen, beware. It was rumoured last month that some Fire devices may lose access to this popular streaming application, and now that news is official, with the block coming into force from tomorrow, June 3. " Netflix will be discontinuing support for some first-generation Fire TV devices, which were introduced more than 10 years ago," Amazon confirmed in a statement. ‌ The change affects anyone with who owns an Amazon Fire TV Stick (2014), Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa voice remote (2014) or Amazon Fire TV (2014). ‌ If that's what you use to stream shows such as Drive to Survive, Adolescence, and Bad Thoughts then you need to buy something new ASAP. We're still not entirely sure why this block is coming into force but it seems it has something to do with a technology called AV1 codec. This allows streaming platforms such as Netflix to offer higher quality resolution - at an extra cost - but it's not supported by those older Fire TV Sticks. ‌ Clearly, Netflix doesn't want customers paying for something they then can't access, and it seems this could be the reason why the app is being taken offline on those older Sticks. Worried you might be affected? To check your Fire TV device, simply navigate to Settings > My Fire TV > About on your Fire TV If your device is on the list below then Netflix will stop working this week. ‌ • Amazon Fire TV Stick (2014) • Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa voice remote (2014) • Amazon Fire TV (2014) "Netflix remains available on all other Fire TV devices," Amazon also confirmed. There are plenty of much better Fire Sticks now available including 4K models and the ultimate Max version which brings the exclusive Ambient Experience to screens. This turns TVs into an ever changing work of art and also allows users to add widgets and sticky notes to their televisions.
