Phillies Get Mets Update on All-Star Outfield Target Luis Robert Jr.
Phillies Get Mets Update on All-Star Outfield Target Luis Robert Jr. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Phillies have continued to be linked to Luis Robert Jr. of the Chicago White Sox, with the trade deadline in about two weeks. Advertisement If the Phillies want Robert, it'll likely take a decent package to land the overrated slugger, as many teams are expected to be interested in him. According to a recent report from Jon Heyman of the New York Post, eight teams have checked in on the outfielder. He later added that the Phillies and New York Mets, among others, are likely potential fits. 'Eight teams have checked in on talented but struggling CF Luis Robert Jr., and if the White Sox can trade him before confronting that $20M option decision, they need to do it. 'The Phillies, Dodgers, Padres, Royals and Mets look like potential fits. Some believe he'd regain form as a complementary player elsewhere,' he wrote. Advertisement Philadelphia Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski (left) and manager Rob Thomson (59) (right) watch bullpen sessions during spring training workouts at BayCare Ballpark. As Heyman touched on, it wouldn't be too surprising to see him figure things out on a different team. The Phillies are one of the better teams in Major League Baseball and should have an opportunity to win a World Series if things go as planned over the next few weeks and months, depending on what they do at the trade deadline. However, Dave Dombrowski has to be careful here. If the Mets land him, that obviously wouldn't be ideal, but it isn't like Robert has been some superstar player throughout the past few years, as some want to suggest. He has a 67 OPS+, 92 strikeouts, a .189 batting average, and just nine home runs in 264 at-bats this season. Pat McAfee's Home Run Derby introduction for Cal Raleigh got way too real: ‘Fattest ass in all of professional sports'
Pat McAfee took Cal Raleigh's nickname to another stratosphere. Known affectionately as 'Big Dumper' because of his rather large rear end, Raleigh's comedic nickname turned into a whole lot more when McAfee introduced the Mariners catcher for the Home Run Derby. 3 ESPN's Pat McAfee introduced the Home Run Derby participants and was particularly excited during Cal Raleigh's. X/Jomboy Media 'Hailing from Cullowhee, North Carolina, a man who's doing something that no catcher has ever done in the history of the sport,' McAfee led Raleigh's intro. 'With the fattest ass in all of professional sports … Ladies and gentlemen: Big Dumper! Cal Raleigh!' The All-Star catcher has embraced his nickname, but that type of introduction in front of the fans in Atlanta and the national television audience viewing the derby at home was certainly a first. 3 YES Network recently made multiple zoom-ins during a hilarious segment about Cal Raleigh's nickname, 'Big Dumper.' YES Network While it was shocking to hear McAfee's comments, Raleigh recently appeared on Pat McAfee's self-titled ESPN show and discussed his nickname, so perhaps the rapport to say such a thing was built beforehand. Raleigh's posterior certainly isn't hurting him, as Big Dumper currently leads all of baseball in home runs with 38 through the All-Star break. He also posts a .259 batting average, an OPS of 1.010 and an MLB-leading 82 RBIs. 3 Cal Raleigh before the Home Run Derby. Getty Images Like his play, Raleigh's nickname has gone nuclear, as jerseys are even sold at the Mariners' stadium with Big Dumper on the back. 'In the stadium, you see more 'Big Dumper' jerseys than you do Raleigh jerseys,' Raleigh told GQ Sports. 'I think they were getting a lot of requests, so they just sell them on the rack now. Apparently they sold out. Someone brought a jersey for me to sign the other day and they said all the adult sizes were out.' Big Dumper also received quite the segment from YES Network during Seattle's recent series against the Yankees, where the game broadcast could not keep its camera shots off of the 'fattest ass in all of professional sports.'

Cruz hits 513-foot homer, joins Raleigh, Caminero and Buxton in Home Run Derby semifinals
ATLANTA (AP) — Pittsburgh's Oneil Cruz hit a 513-foot drive over Truist Park's right-center field seats while advancing to the second round of the All-Star Home Run Derby along with Seattle's Cal Raleigh, Tampa Bay's Junior Caminero and Minnesota's Byron Buxton on Monday night. Atlanta's Matt Olson, Washington's James Wood, the New York Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr., and the Athletics' Brent Rooker were eliminated. Cruz and Caminero each hit 21 long balls and Buxton had 20 in the opening round of the annual power show. Raleigh and Rooker had 17 apiece, but Raleigh advanced on the tiebreaker of their longest homer, 470.61 feet to 470.53. Cruz faced Raleigh in the semifinals, while Caminero took on Buxton. The longest derby homer since Statcast started tracking in 2016 was 520 feet by Juan Soto in the mile-high air of Denver's Coors Field in 2021. Last year, the longest drive at Arlington, Texas, was 473 feet by Atlanta's Marcell Ozuna. Cruz's long drive was the hardest-hit at 118 mph. Raleigh, who leads the major leagues with 38 homers, was pitched to by his father, Todd, former coach of Tennessee and Western Carolina. His younger brother Todd Raleigh Jr. did the catching. Just the second Derby switch-hitter after Baltimore's Adley Rutschman in 2023, Raleigh hit eight left-handed, took a timeout, then hit seven right-handed. Going back to lefty, then hit two more in the bonus round. Wood hit 16 homers, including a 486-foot shot and one that landed on the roof of the Chop House behind the right-field wall. Olson, disappointing his hometown fans, finished with 15 and was eliminated in the first round for the second time. Chisholm hit just three homers. ___ AP MLB:
