Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim meets with Chinese FM Wang Yi
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Friday met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Putrajaya.
Chinese President Xi Jinping's successful visit to Malaysia this year marked a major event in the history of Malaysia-China relations, Anwar said, adding that Xi's deep concern for and reflections on the future of the world have earned the heartfelt respect of the Malaysian government and its people.
The fruitful cooperation between Malaysia and China in various fields has benefited the people of both countries, Anwar said.
In today's world, cooperation mechanisms such as BRICS are growing with remarkable momentum as countries pursue independence, autonomy and development, he said.
China has played a leading role in this process, which Malaysia highly appreciates, Anwar noted.
Under the joint guidance of the two countries' leaders, China-Malaysia relations have entered the best period in their history, said Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
China regards Malaysia as a sincere friend and stands ready to work with the Malaysian side to implement the important consensus reached between the two countries' leaders and to advance the building of a high-level, strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future in a steady and substantive manner, he added.
He said China fully supports Malaysia's work as the rotating chair of ASEAN and in playing a greater role in regional and international affairs.
As developing countries, emerging economies, and key representatives of the Global South, China and Malaysia should join hands to meet challenges and pursue revitalization and development together, Wang said.
The United States' unilateral imposition of high tariffs is irresponsible and unpopular, Wang noted. He said China will always stand with the vast number of developing countries, remain committed to high-level opening-up, share the dividends of its super-sized market and work together to expand the pie of win-win cooperation.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has clarified issues related to judicial appointments during a meeting with Barisan Nasional MPs, BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. According to Free Malaysia Today, Zahid said the matter was among the issues raised during the one-hour meeting on Friday. 'The king would take into account the personality and background of the prospective appointee when deciding on the matter and we should respect the decision,' he told reporters after opening the Selayang Umno divisional meeting in Sungai Buloh. Zahid said BN held the view that the appointment of the chief justice should not be politicised. He also said BN believed that any royal commission of inquiry into judicial appointments would contradict the government's stance, as stated by law and institutional reform minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. Azalina previously said the government would study the best practices of other countries in appointing judges, with preliminary comparative research to be conducted involving the systems in the UK, India, Australia and Singapore. Delays in filling top positions in the judiciary have prompted calls for a public inquiry and a parliamentary hearing. The chief justice and the president of the Court of Appeal have both recently retired. Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Hasnah Hashim is now serving as acting chief justice, while Federal Court judge Datuk Zabariah Yusof is the acting Court of Appeal president.

High Court orders compulsory winding up of TH Heavy Engineering New Straits Times KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has ordered TH Heavy Engineering Bhd's (THHE) liquidation to proceed under court supervision, following concerns over how the voluntary process was managed. In a landmark decision, only the second of its kind in Malaysian legal history, the court ruled that the voluntary process failed to uphold the interests of creditors, especially independent ones holding the majority of THHE's debt. The consensus among independent creditors—who hold 74.6% of debts—alongside support from parties like NSF Engineering and the lack of opposition, presented a strong case for court-supervised liquidation, Justice Atan Mustapha Yussof Ahmad said in a written judgment. "The breaches of statutory provisions in the voluntary liquidation process, conflicts of interest of the interim liquidators, questionable circumstances surrounding the voluntary liquidation, and the compelling need for independent investigation all point inexorably to the conclusion that compulsory liquidation under court supervision is necessary," Atan said. The judge outlined the basis for granting the petition by Global Mariner Offshore Services Sdn Bhd (GMOS) and two other creditors under Sections 464(1) and (2) of the Companies Act 2016, including the appointment of independent liquidators. THHE was incorporated on Nov 18, 2003 under the Companies Act 1965, and was formerly known as Ramunia Holdings Berhad. The company was previously a public company listed on Bursa Malaysia, involved in the business of fabrication of oil and gas structures, construction services and management services. On April 28, 2017, THHE was classified as a PN17 affected listed issuer. Despite being granted eight extensions over a period of five years, THHE failed to submit an acceptable regularisation plan to address its PN17 status. Consequently, on 5 May, 2022, THHE was delisted by Bursa Malaysia. THHE's majority shareholder is Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd (UJSB), a Finance Ministry-owned entity set up in 2010 to take over assets from Lembaga Tabung Haji. The court ordered THHE be wound up by the court under Section 464(1) of the CA 2016. It also ordered Lim Tian Huat and Chiang Teng Guan to be appointed as joint and several liquidators of THHE.
