HuffPost Celebrates 20 Years Of Groundbreaking Digital-First Journalism
New York, NY – May 9, 2025 – Today, HuffPost, the award-winning online news organization steeped in fair and fearless reporting, proudly celebrates its 20th anniversary as a groundbreaking digital-first site. Founded in 2005 as The Huffington Post, the platform has grown from a pioneering blog-based news site into a must-read global voice for news, politics, culture, and personal stories.
Launched in New York City by Arianna Huffington, Jonah Peretti, Kenneth Lerer, and a team of forward-thinking journalists and technologists, HuffPost helped usher in a new era of digital-first journalism. From its earliest days, the site disrupted the traditional media landscape by centering internet-native content, elevating underrepresented voices, and creating a space for community engagement across a wide range of topics.
Over the past two decades, HuffPost has received widespread recognition for its editorial excellence and impact, including a Pulitzer Prize for national reporting, The National Magazine Award, numerous Webby Awards, and honors from GLAAD and many other journalism and advocacy organizations. With millions of loyal readers, HuffPost continues to play a vital role in helping people make sense of the world and live better lives.
'For 20 years, HuffPost has relentlessly covered the most important, most compelling stories and offered our audience a loud, direct and honest perspective they can't find anywhere else,' said Whitney Snyder, Editor-in-Chief of HuffPost. 'At a time when America's free press and cherished institutions are under attack, we are proud to celebrate our anniversary and are committed to the next 20 years of indispensable, independent reporting.'
Updated HuffPost Logo
To commemorate this milestone, HuffPost is unveiling a refreshed logo and visual identity to reflect the site's fair and fearless reporting since 2005. The updated logo includes white HuffPost text on a darker green background with pink accent colors, with an 'H' logo thumbnail. The branding is a nod to HuffPost's original roots, with darker green, and what the organization stands for: being bold, fearless, and grounded in truth.

CNN Star Announces Departure Amid Report He Was Fired
Alex Marquardt, CNN's chief national security correspondent, announced Monday he was 'leaving' the news network ― but a Status report said he was 'dismissed.' 'Some personal news: I'm leaving CNN after 8 terrific years,' Marquardt wrote on X, formerly Twitter. 'Tough to say goodbye but it's been an honor to work among the very best in the business. Profound thank you to my comrades on the National Security team & the phenomenal teammates I've worked with in the US and abroad.' Marquardt helped to lead coverage of the war in Ukraine (where he was when Russia invaded), the Capitol insurrection, Black Lives Matter protests and other major stories in his second stint with CNN, which began in 2017. In his previous time there he was embedded in campaigns during the 2008 presidential race. But his end with the network Monday came on the heels of his reporting on a story that resulted in a damning lawsuit defeat for CNN. Marquardt was the producer on a report about the price-gouging 'black market' smuggling of Afghans out of the country amid the U.S. withdrawal in 2021. A U.S. Navy veteran who was mentioned in the report claimed CNN ruined his business by showing his photo on-screen. The veteran said his enterprise targeted sponsors who could afford the fees, not impoverished Afghans. In January a jury ruled he was defamed by CNN and awarded him $5 million in damages. CNN later settled with the man for what could have included further punitive damages. A CNN spokesperson confirmed Marquardt's departure to HuffPost but declined further comment since it is a personnel matter. Former CNN media reporter Oliver Darcy of Status wrote that Marquardt was abruptly fired ― which he did not mention to colleagues in a network memo. HuffPost also reached out to Marquardt early Tuesday but did not immediately hear back. Jodie Turner-Smith Shares Cryptic Message Amid Joshua Jackson Custody Drama
Jodie Turner-Smith appeared to shade her ex-husband, Joshua Jackson, amid a disagreement between the two over their daughter's schooling. Turner-Smith and Jackson share one child together, a 5-year-old named Juno. Jackson recently filed an emergency custody order modification ― according to documents obtained by People magazine ― over a development in Juno's education. The 'Dawson's Creek' actor alleges that Turner-Smith abruptly changed Juno's school without his permission. 'Jodie is attempting to create a scenario where Juno travels with her rather than attending a traditional school,' Jackson said in the documents. After news broke of the conflict between the two, Turner-Smith shared a post on Instagram that seemed to call out her ex-husband. The post includes animated photos of cartoon villains and reads ''Why don't you like that person? They seem so nice.' You know who else seemed to be nice.' Turner-Smith added her own commentary in her Instagram stories, writing '🤦🏾♀️ stay safe out there ⚠️.' Reps for Turner-Smith and Jackson did not immediately return HuffPost's requests for comment. The former couple married in December 2019, one year after meeting at Usher's 40th birthday party. Juno was born in April 2020. Turner-Smith would go on to file for divorce in October 2023, citing 'irreconcilable differences.' The 'Queen & Slim' actor previously shared that she doesn't view the two's marriage ending as a 'failure.' 'Sometimes things we really want to work just don't end up working. And that's OK,' she told the U.K.'s Sunday Times in an interview published in 2024. 'The most important thing is that you choose what's healthiest for you and your family and definitely your children.' Turner-Smith later shared that the former couple were going through an 'adjustment period' as they learned how to co-parent. 'Nobody hands you a manual,' the actor said in a candid chat with Glamour U.K. last year. 'Everyone's trying to figure it out. Each parent has a different life, and especially if the reason why you're splitting up is because you have different lives, it's only further complicated by how you're going to coparent.'
