Ronald Acuña Jr. leaves Braves-Royals with Achilles tightness, will be placed on injured list
The Braves announced his diagnosis shortly after his exit in the middle of the sixth inning. After the game, manager Brian Snitker told reporters that Acuña would be placed on the 10-day injured list. He was seen in a walking boot after the game.
Acuña left the game with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kansas City's Vinnie Pasquantino hit a fly ball to deep right-centerfield that Acuña couldn't catch reach. It bounced off the warning track and over the fence for a ground-rule RBI double that extended Kansas City's lead to 9-3.

He jogged from his spot in the outfield then left to the Braves clubhouse with a trainer. Shortly after his exit, the Braves announced that Acuña was dealing with tightness in his right Achilles tendon.
The Royals held on for a 9-6 win.
It's not clear exactly when or how Acuña sustained his injury or if the tightness was the result of cumulative wear. Per multiple reports from the game, Acuña showed signs of discomfort prior to the play that preceded his exit.
The injury scare is the latest in a stellar career that's been plagued by leg injuries. Acuña has twice sustained ACL tears in his left knee — once in 2021 and again in 2024. In between, he won the 2023 MVP while leading the National League in hits, runs scored, stolen bases and on-base percentage.
Injuries have limited Acuña to 82 games or fewer in three of his full seven MLB seasons. He missed the first 49 games of this season while recovering from his ACL tear sustained in 2024.
Despite his injuries, Acuña has been named an All-Star in five of his seven MLB seasons as one of the most versatile and gifted offensive players in baseball. He was named Rookie of the Year in one of the two years he wasn't named an All-Star.
Acuña and the Braves are certainly hoping that his latest setback won't require an extended stay on the injured list. With the 45-61 Braves 12.5 games out of the wild-card race as of the conclusion of Tuesday's game, they'll certainly play it cautious and not rush him back.

Littell and Steer help the Reds top the sagging Cubs 5-1
CHICAGO — Zack Littell struck out eight in seven crisp innings in his Cincinnati debut, and the Reds beat the slumping Chicago Cubs 5-1 on Tuesday night. Littell (9-8) allowed three hits and walked two in his first start since he was acquired in a trade with Tampa Bay last week. Spencer Steer hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in Cincinnati's four-run seventh. The Reds (60-54) won for the third time in four games. Matt Shaw homered for the Cubs (65-48), who finished with four hits. They had just three hits in Monday night's 3-2 loss in the series opener. The Cubs have dropped three of four. They trail the NL Central-leading Brewers by four games. Steer singled home Miguel Andujar in the fifth, but Shaw responded with his seventh homer in the bottom half of the inning. The Reds grabbed control in the seventh against Andrew Kittredge (2-3). Austin Hays walked, Andujar singled and Steer hit a drive to left-center for his 13th homer. Santiago Espinal added a sacrifice fly. It was Kittredge's third appearance since he was acquired in a trade with Baltimore. Andujar collected his first two hits with the Reds after coming over in a trade deadline deal with the Athletics. TJ Friedl also had two hits. Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings. He was charged with one run and three hits. The Cubs had a chance to grab an early lead, putting runners on first and second with none out in the first. But Kyle Tucker, Pete Crow-Armstrong and Willi Castro struck out swinging. The Reds went 3 for 5 with runners in scoring position. The Cubs went 0 for 6 in those situations. Reds All-Star LHP Andrew Abbott (8-1, 2.15 ERA) faces Cubs rookie RHP Cade Horton (5-2, 3.42 ERA) in the series finale on Wednesday. ___ AP MLB:

ARLINGTON, Texas — Nathan Eovaldi pitched eight sharp innings, Rowdy Tellez blooped a two-run single on a 10-pitch at-bat in the eighth, and the Texas Rangers spoiled Aaron Judge's return with a 2-0 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. Judge was 0 for 3 with two strikeouts as the designated hitter after being activated from the 10-day injured list. The All-Star slugger has a tendon strain in his right elbow, and the Yankees plan to start a throwing program Wednesday to see how soon Judge can return to the outfield.
