Individuals and organisations that have planned to install idols of Lord Vinayaka for Vinayaka Chaturthi and take them in procession for immersion in Virudhunagar district should get permission from the respective Revenue Divisional Officers.
In a statement, Virudhunagar Collector N.O. Sukhaputra said that they should comply with the conditions laid for maintaining public order, security and religious harmony by the officials from the Departments of Revenue, police and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.
The statement said that those who make the idols should get permission from the local bodies. The statues should be made only with clay and not out of plaster of paris or thermocol, which affect the environment. Similarly, they should use non-toxic materials for painting the idols. Naturally available materials could be used for painting so that the idols, when immersed in waterbodies, do not pollute the water and environment.
The pandals put up at the places of installation of idols should be made of tinsheets and asbestos to avoid fire accidents. The idols should be properly covered with barricades. The maximum permissible height of the idols, including the pedestal, is 10 feet.
The idols should be immersed within five days after installation.
The Collector said that the idols would not be allowed to be installed near the places of worship of other faiths, hospital and educational institutions. Besides, they should not pose hindrance to the free movement of vehicular traffic.
The organisers should not use cone speakers. The public address system should used only for two hours in the mornings and two hours in the evenings.
The organisers should appoint a committee for providing round-the-clock protection to the idols right from the moment of installation till the idols are taken out on procession for immersion.
The details of the committee members, who would be posted in turns, like name, address and phone numbers, should be provided to the local police station.
The flexboards installed in connection with the festival should not have any political or religious overtones.

Collector urges use of clay idols for eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi

Anantapur: District Collector Dr Vinod Kumar V appealed to citizens to worship eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols and protect the environment during this year's Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations. He made these remarks while unveiling pamphlets promoting eco-friendly festivities at an awareness programme organised by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board at the Revenue Bhavan in Anantapur Collectorate on Monday. The Collector emphasised that everyone must work collectively to preserve the sanctity of the festival while ensuring environmental protection. He urged devotees to use clay idols made with natural colours instead of harmful materials. He specifically warned against single-use plastics and emphasised celebrating the festival sustainably. Dr Vinod Kumar stated that Plaster of Paris (POP) idols are banned, as POP contains harmful chemicals that cause severe water pollution during immersion. Instead, idols should be made with clay, natural dyes, cotton, jute, and other biodegradable materials. He also advised reducing or completely avoiding immersion materials that damage lakes and water resources. Highlighting the directives of the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Collector said that idol making and immersion must strictly follow environmental guidelines. He further directed that while granting permissions for Ganesh pandals and installations, departments including Revenue, Municipal Corporation, Panchayat, Fire Services, Electricity, and Police should strictly adhere to the revised guidelines issued by the Central Pollution Control Board. The event was attended by Joint Collector Shiv Narayan Sharma, DRO A Malola, Forest Settlement Officer G Ramakrishna Reddy, Special Deputy Collectors Rammohan, Mallikarjun, Anand, APPCB Environmental Engineer P.V. Kishore Reddy, Agriculture Officer Umamaheswaramma, along with APPCB staff and other district officials.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 start and end date: Know auspicious timings, rituals and Vinayaka Chaturthi wishes

Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is one of the biggest Hindu festivals in Indian that is celebrated with a lot of devotion, enthusiasm and austerity. This auspicious festival marks the birth of Lord Ganesha, the beloved elephant-headed son of Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati. In 2025, Ganesh Chaturthi will be observed with devotion, faith, and enthusiasm, as devotees welcome Lord Ganesha into their homes and temples. The festival typically lasts for ten days, featuring prayers, rituals, and cultural celebrations. Huge processions carrying beautifully decorated idols of Lord Ganesha, devotional music, and dance add to the festive spirit. Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 Date and Puja Muhurat According to Drik Panchang, Ganesh Chaturthi in 2025 will begin on 27th August. The most auspicious time to perform the Ganesh Chaturthi puja is the Madhyahna Muhurat, which symbolises the exact time of Lord Ganesha's birth. Ganesh Puja Muhurat: 11:05 a.m. to 1:40 p.m. (2 hours 35 minutes) Shukla Yoga (Auspicious Period): 12:35 p.m. to 1:18 p.m. Rahukaal (Inauspicious Period): 12:22 p.m. to 1:59 p.m. Ganesh Visarjan 2025 Date and Timings After ten days of festivities, the grand farewell to Lord Ganesha takes place on Anant Chaturdashi. On this day, idols of Lord Ganesha are immersed in rivers, lakes, or seas with chants of 'Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya', marking the end of the festival. Performing the Ganesh Chaturthi puja during this midday timing is considered highly auspicious, as it is believed to invite divine blessings for prosperity and success. Moon Sighting on Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 An important tradition linked to Ganesh Chaturthi is avoiding moon sighting. In 2025, devotees are advised not to see the moon during the following times: - 26th August 2025: 1:54 p.m. to 8:29 p.m. - 27th August 2025: 9:28 a.m. to 8:57 p.m. According to Hindu mythology, looking at the moon on Ganesh Chaturthi can bring false accusations and dishonour. This belief comes from a fascinating legend involving Lord Ganesha and the moon god. Why We Should Not Sight The Moon on Ganesh Chaturthi The story goes that once, Lord Ganesha attended a feast hosted by Lord Kubera, the god of wealth. Known for his unmatched appetite, Ganesha consumed everything served and even all the food in Kubera's kingdom. Later, as Ganesha rode back on his mouse mount, the moon god (Chandra) mocked him for his unusual appearance and large belly. Offended, Ganesha cursed the moon, declaring that anyone who looked at it on Ganesh Chaturthi would face baseless accusations and humiliation. When the moon apologised, Ganesha softened the curse, limiting its effect to just one day of the year - Ganesh Chaturthi. Since then, avoiding moon sighting during Ganesh Utsav has become a customary practice. Why Ganesh Chaturthi Is Celebrated With Devotion Ganesh Chaturthi is not just a festival but a spiritual journey. It reminds devotees of Ganesha's qualities - wisdom, strength, and the power to remove obstacles. Families and communities gather to worship him, seek his blessings for success, and celebrate unity and joy. The story of his rebirth - when Lord Brahma placed an elephant's head on young Ganesha after Lord Shiva mistakenly severed it - symbolises hope, renewal, and divine protection.
