as he sets out to promote the U.K. theatrical release of his latest directorial effort, 'Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness.'
Depp was referring to the allegations first leveled at him in 2016 by ex-wife Amber Heard, who accused him of domestic violence when she filed for divorce.
Heard's allegations notably fed into two trials that garnered global attention. Depp brought a libel lawsuit against The Sun in 2018 after the publication referred to him as a 'wife beater.'
The trial kicked off in summer 2020 and ended with the court determining that the characterization of Depp as a 'wife beater' was 'substantially true.'
Later in the year, Depp exited Warner Bros.' 'Fantastic Beasts' franchise after saying the studio asked him to resign from the role in the aftermath of the trial.
A second and even more highly-publicized trial took place in the U.S. in 2022 after Depp sued Heard in 2019 for defamation over an op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post in which she referred to herself as 'a figure representing domestic abuse.'
The 2022 trial was live-streamed on YouTube and became an online sensation. The jury ultimately ruled that Heard did defame Depp in the op-ed, while also ruling Depp defamed Heard in the course of fighting back against her charges. Throughout the trial, shocking details about Depp and Heard's personal lives were revealed.
'Look, it had gone far enough,' Depp reflected on the viral 2022 trial. 'I knew I'd have to semi-eviscerate myself. Everyone was saying, 'It'll go away!' But I can't trust that. What will go away? The fiction pawned around the fucking globe? No it won't. If I don't try to represent the truth it will be like I've actually committed the acts I am accused of. And my kids will have to live with it. Their kids. Kids that I've met in hospitals. So the night before the trial in Virginia I didn't feel nervous. If you don't have to memorize lines, if you're just speaking the truth? Roll the dice.'
Depp said he survived 'all the hit pieces, the bullshit' that accompanied the trial, adding: 'Look, none of this was going be easy, but I didn't care. I thought, 'I'll fight until the bitter fucking end.' And if I end up pumping gas? That's all right. I've done that before.'
A few years after the end of the U.S. trial, Depp is now getting the chance to come back to Hollywood by starring opposite 'Blow' co-star Penelope Cruz in the Lionsgate action comedy 'Day Drinker.'
He told the Times about his life: 'I have no regrets about anything — because, truly, what can we do about last week's dinner? Not a fucking thing.'
'Day Drinker' is scheduled to release in theaters sometime in 2026.

"Glee" Star Chris Colfer's Book Series "Land of Stories" Movie in Works
Yara Sameh Warner Bros. is set to start a new chapter with the adaptation of a best-selling book series from the "Glee" alum Chris Colfer. The studio has acquired Colfer's book series "The Land of Stories" and has attached filmmaker Phil Johnston to write the live-action adaptation. Emma Watts brought the property to Warner Bros. Colfer and Watts serve as producers, while Rob Weisbach will executive produce. "The Land of Stories" centers on twins Alex and Conner Bailey, who are grieving the loss of their father when they are transported into a magic book where classic fairy tales are brought to life. The series kicked off with "The Wishing Spell", published in 2012. With seven books in the original series, Colfer has also published several prequel titles. In 2017, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Colfer was set to write and direct a feature version of the book series for 20th Century Fox and Shawn Levy's 21 Laps. The author of 20 books, Colfer is known for playing Kurt Hummel on the Fox series "Glee". He starred in the 2012 coming-of-age film 'Struck by Lightning", which he also wrote and produced. Johnston is the director of such movies as the forthcoming Netflix feature adaptation "The Twits" and the Disney animated sequel "Ralph Breaks the Internet". Amal Maher releases long-awaited new album Haga Gheir - Music - Arts & Culture
Renowned Egyptian singer Amal Maher released her new album, Haga Gheir (Something Different), on Sunday, 20 July, her first full-length album since 2019's Asl El-Ahsas. At the beginning of the 2020s, the 40-year-old star made a brief return with a handful of singles, maintaining a low profile. This was through a five-track EP, Ana Kwaiesa (I'm Fine), released in 2023, marking a return to her fans through concerts across the Arab region. The long-awaited new full album Haga Gheir consists of 10 new songs. Its release on YouTube and music streaming platforms further underscores her complete artistic resurgence. Days before the full album's release, Maher dropped one song, Khabar Agel (Breaking News), on 15 July. The song's music video soon reached 300,000 views on YouTube, paving the way for the consecutive nine tracks unveiled on Sunday. The songs quickly resonated with Maher's fans, with music videos of Odet Hayato (The Obsession of His Life) and Nseit Esmy (I Forgot My Name) racking up over 60,000 views within just hours of their release. The album showcases diverse themes and modern musical styles, reflecting the artist's ever-evolving creative journey. The Haga Gheir track blends traditional Arabic melodic patterns with modern pop production, creating a fresh yet familiar sound. The orchestration includes rich strings layered with electronic beats, emphasizing Amal's powerful vocal delivery. Equally pronounced pulsating electronic beats and synth layers open Nseit Esmy, a track that fuses Spanish guitar with mainstream Arabic pop. Latin accents are additionally emphasized by a music video presenting flamenco dancers. Emotional ballad Leh Sektu? (Why Did You Stay Silent?) blends classical guitar with Arabic rhythms and rich oriental percussion. Another romantic ballad, Law Leena Omr (If We Had Time), evokes a cinematic feel through its arrangement, which capitalizes on open string lines and layered harmonic textures, laying a rich carpet for Maher's vocal showcase. The emotional release comes with solo piano, allowing listeners to savour the song's melancholy. Maher's album stands out through a compelling blend of traditional Arabic elements and contemporary influences, topped with electronic beats, pulsating synths, and flamenco-inspired Latin twists. In all those creative meanders, Maher's voice finds a great platform to shine, showcasing its many values that only reassure us of her incredible talent, skills, and emotional depth, all of which continue to thrive. In this album, Maher collaborated with a select group of renowned lyricists, including many tracks penned by Nader Abdullah, as well as composers such as Madian, Mohamady, Ahmed Zaeem, Amr El Shazly, Islam Refaat, and Ayman Bahgat Kamar. "Superman" Crosses $400 Million at Global Box Office
Yara Sameh 'Superman,' the newly rebooted comic book adventure starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, continues to rule the worldwide box office, reaching $406 million after two weekends of release. Those ticket sales include $171.8 million overseas and $235 million from the North American market. Turnout remains slower than expected at the international box office, where 'Superman' added $45.2 million in its second weekend. Outsized global appeal is vital because the comic book reboot has the lofty goal of launching a new phase of superhero movies for the Warner Bros.-backed DC Studios. Two interconnected spinoffs, 'Supergirl' and 'Clayface,' will land in 2026, while a new 'Wonder Woman' movie is in the works. Furthermore, 'Superman' will face steep competition next weekend as another comic book adventure, Disney and Marvel's 'The Fantastic Four,' opens in theaters. Meanwhile, Universal's 'Jurassic World Rebirth' had another huge showing with $40.2 million from 82 overseas territories in its third weekend of release. So far, the prehistoric tentpole has earned a towering $371 million internationally and $647 million globally. The dinosaur reboot, starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali, is one of only three Hollywood films to surpass the $600 million mark this year, the others being 'Lilo & Stitch' ($1.008 billion) and 'A Minecraft Movie' ($955 million). However, the latest 'Jurassic' has T-rex-sized footprints to fill at the box office since the prior sequel trilogy, led by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, each grossed $1 billion globally. In terms of newcomers, Paramount's animated 'Smurfs' musical collected $22.6 million from 58 markets. Along with a domestic debut of $11 million, the family film has earned $36 million worldwide to date. It's an underwhelming start for the $58 million-budgeted film, which will likely drive consumer product sales even if the film fails to launch a new cinematic universe. Top-earning territories include France ($3.7 million), the United Kingdom ($1.7 million), and Brazil ($1.6 million). Rihanna leads the voice cast of 'Smurfs' as Smurfette alongside the sprawling ensemble of James Corden, Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Jimmy Kimmel, Octavia Spencer, and John Goodman. Another new release, Sony's R-rated 'I Know What You Did Last Summer,' launched to $11.6 million from 58 markets. The slasher sequel, which brought together the stars of the original 1998 film, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt, with newcomers Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui-Wonders, debuted in North America with $13 million for a global start of $24.6 million. Although nostalgia isn't as strong as Sony might have expected when rebooting the decades-old franchise, the studio spent a modest $18 million to produce the film, meaning there isn't a high bar to clear in terms of profitability. In another box office milestone, Apple's 'F1: The Movie' has revved past the $450 million mark globally. So far, the $250 million-budgeted film has collected a huge $307.2 million internationally and $460.8 million worldwide. At this point, 'F1' has earned more in just overseas markets than any of Apple's prior movies — including Martin Scorsese's 'Killers of the Flower Moon' ($158 million worldwide) and Ridley Scott's 'Napoleon' ($221 million) — have generated in their entire global box office runs.
