Meri Bhavya Life's Sheetal Maulik recalls casting couch experience; says ‘I was directly asked if I'm ready to compromise'
Reflecting on the incident, she shared how naïve she was at the time and how that moment shaped her journey in the industry.
'It was quite unexpected for me,' Sheetal began. 'I was very innocent during the time I made my acting debut. I was hardly 15 or 16 years old. Back then, we were still considered kids and our parents made most decisions. Today's generation is much more aware and informed.'
Recalling the shocking incident, she said, 'I was in talks for a project, and I was directly asked if I'm ready to compromise.
I was so innocent that I agreed on the spot, thinking it meant they would pay me less. I came home and told my family, 'Yay! I'm selected! Just that they'll pay me less, and I agreed to it.''
However, the reality hit hard soon after. 'The next day, the producer called me to meet at night. I was like, 'Sir, now?' And he said, 'Yes, we talked about compromising, and you seemed comfortable.' I said, 'Yes, I'm okay with less money,' and he replied, 'No, we can pay you more.
All you need to do is…' I cut off the call. That moment was a real shock for me.'
Despite the harrowing experience, Sheetal emphasized the positives. 'Yes, the industry has a dark side, but there are good people too—professionals who respect and appreciate your talent. I was lucky to meet such people and didn't let that one experience break me. I kept going.'
She further shared, 'My mom used to accompany me to auditions after that. I became more aware. I always tell newcomers—trust your talent and stay true to your path. Hard work and honesty will take you far.'
In addition to Meri Bhavya Life, Sheetal has appeared in Deewaniyat, Suhaagan, Barsatein – Mausam Pyaar Ka, and Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai, slowly carving a place for herself with resilience and talent.

Exclusive - Dipali Sharma on working opposite Avinash Mishra in Pyaar Se Bandhe Rishte; says 'He's not just respectful and well-mannered, but also contributes thoughtful ideas on set'
Dipali Sharma , who is stepping into the spotlight as the lead in Ektaa Kapoor's Pyaar Se Bandhe Rishte, is overjoyed about this new chapter. Paired opposite Bigg Boss 18 fame Avinash Mishra , Dipali shared her excitement in an exclusive chat with Times of India TV. She spoke candidly about her path in the entertainment industry, landing the lead role in Ektaa Kapoor's show, and her experience working alongside Avinash Mishra. Tell us a little about your journey? I began my career as an engineer, but deep down, I was always passionate about storytelling and performing. Trusting my instincts, I made a bold decision to leave my job and step into the world of acting. I started out with television shows, which helped me build a strong foundation in the craft. In 2021, I made my debut in a Telugu film. Since then, I've been thankful for each opportunity and remain excited about taking on roles that challenge and inspire me as an artist. How does it feel to be a lead in Ekta Kapoor's next? Of course, it feels incredible. I've previously worked with Balaji on Barsatein and Yeh Hai Chahatein, but this project holds a special place in my heart because I'm playing the lead this time. What makes it even more exciting is that it's Balaji's first finite series on YouTube. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Candi: New Container Houses – Take A Look At The Prices! I believe in destiny. Having a godfather can be an advantage, but not having one doesn't mean you're at a disadvantage. If something is truly meant for you, you'll find your way—sooner or later. Some people are shown the way, while others create their own. Both paths are meaningful, but building your journey from scratch is what defines a true legacy. How is it working with Avinash Mishra for this one? Working with Avinash has been a truly pleasant experience. He's not just respectful and well-mannered, but also someone who contributes thoughtful ideas on set. His creative suggestions really enhance the process, and based on my experience, he's an excellent co-actor to work with. Hiten Tejwani: Success for me is being loved and known by everyone
Hiten Tejwani, known for his role in Meri Bhavya Life, emphasises the importance of a positive mindset, believing that rejections often pave the way for better opportunities. Hiten Tejwani , currently seen as Nitin in Meri Bhavya Life, reflects on the journey so far. The actor shared the one piece of advice that has shaped his perspective: 'If you don't get something, it's because something better is coming your way. ' He adds, 'Whenever I didn't get selected for a role or heard something like 'looking forward to working with you,' soon after, something bigger and more fulfilling came along. That mindset keeps me positive, always.' For Hiten, success isn't just about accolades or ratings. 'Success is when you're loved and known by everyone. That's the biggest award for me. Not just in your own city or country—but when people around the world know you. That, to me, is true success,' he said, candidly adding, 'I've not even reached halfway yet, but I'm on the path. I'll get there.' The actor believes he still has a long way to go to achieve that and mentioned that he hasn't even reached halfway yet. He says, "But I am on the path; I'm getting there. And I will reach there.' Having worked in the industry for years, he is also aware of the assumptions people make about actors. 'People often think we're like the characters we play. For example, they meet me and say, 'You're actually fun-loving and full of life—we thought you'd be serious or rude!' That's the beauty of being an actor. You live lives so different from your own,' he said.
