Chhattisgarh BJP deletes controversial post on the arrest of Kerala nuns following backlash
The cartoon, depicting Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and K.C. Venugopal, bowing to nuns, and as well-wishers of those indulging in human trafficking and religious conversions, was posted and deleted in quick succession on Saturday morning (August 2, 2025) after some users said it mocked Christianity.
The arrest of the nuns, Preeti Mary and Vandana Francis, along with a resident of Narayanpur, in Durg on July 25, sparked a political controversy.
The deleted cartoon, too, prompted a strong rebuttal from the Opposition Congress in the State. The party said the BJP had been forced to delete the post, fearing electoral losses in Kerala; the nuns hail from the southern State.
'The arrest of the nuns was wrong and illegal. Action was taken against them on the basis of purported statements alleging human trafficking and conversion by women who have since denied the incidents of trafficking and conversion in media. The Kerala BJP president has also opposed this action. The BJP government has been exposed in this matter. The BJP has removed this poster fearing [electoral] losses in Kerala,' Congress spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla said.
The post had been deleted because 'it was not the right subject', Somesh Pandey, co-convenor of the BJP's IT cell in Chhattisgarh said, without elaborating further.
A couple of other BJP spokespersons also declined to comment on the matter, while the party's State president Kiran Singh Deo was unavailable for comment.

Earlier, Chidambaram posted on X that while 65 lakh voters in Bihar risk losing their voting rights, reports of adding 6.5 lakh voters in Tamil Nadu were 'alarming and patently illegal.' The EC rejected these allegations as "misleading," clarifying that the SIR has not yet been implemented in Tamil Nadu and accused the leader of spreading 'false figures' regarding the addition of 6.5 lakh voters there. 'It is therefore absurd to connect the SIR exercise in Bihar with Tamil Nadu. Such false statements about SIR should be avoided,' the commission stated. He called this designation an insult to migrant workers and said it interfered with the electoral rights of Tamil Nadu voters. The Election Commission explained that under Article 19(1)(e) of the Constitution, all citizens have the right to reside and settle anywhere in India. It is the responsibility of voters to enroll themselves in the constituency where they currently reside and are eligible. For example, a person originally from Tamil Nadu but ordinarily residing in Delhi can be registered as a voter in Delhi. Similarly, someone originally from Bihar but living in Chennai can register there. Chidambaram's post followed the EC's announcement that over 65 lakh enumeration forms were excluded from Bihar's draft electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming assembly polls. This revision reduced the number of registered voters from approximately 7.9 crore to 7.24 crore. According to the EC, 22,34,501 registered voters were found to be deceased, around 36.28 lakh had permanently moved out of Bihar or were not found at their listed addresses, and 7.01 lakh were registered at multiple locations. The Congress leader's criticism came even as the EC reported that no political party filed any claims or objections regarding the draft electoral rolls published in Bihar on August 1. The draft publication has sparked controversy, with opposition parties like the RJD questioning the accuracy and transparency of the EC's data, particularly concerning the number of deceased voters. During the first phase of the SIR, voters received enumeration forms either from Booth Level Officers (BLOs) or Booth Level Agents (BLAs) nominated by political parties. Voters were to return these forms with their signatures and valid identification documents. Voters who believe their names were wrongly deleted can appeal to the relevant authorities by September 1 to seek rectification.

PM Modi to inaugurate Bengaluru's yellow line metro, launch phase-3 on Aug 10

In a post on 'X', Surya said, "Hon. PM Sri @narendramodi Ji's visit to Bengaluru on August 10 will be a landmark moment for Bengaluru South. He will not only inaugurate the long-awaited Yellow Line Metro operations but also lay the foundation stone for Metro Phase 3 - a project that received Cabinet approval within the first 100 days of his third term." He said the Yellow Line will cater to close to eight lakh riders and the 'infamous Silk Board jam' will be addressed greatly. Public transport is the only option to reduce traffic congestion. "Together, these projects will benefit nearly 25 lakh people in Bengaluru South," he said. The MP said by inaugurating it on August 10, the Yellow Line Metro project would meet the August 15 deadline. Surya said this could happen because of Modi's personal insistence that this must be open to public without any further delay. Surya, who is also the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national president, quoted Union Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who said on 'X', "I am pleased to announce that the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India has kindly agreed to inaugurate 19.15 km Yellow Line from RV Road to Bommasandra of Bangaluru metro with 16 stations at the cost of ₹5,056.99 crore and lay the foundation stone of 44.65 km of Bangalore phase-3 at the cost of ₹15,611 Crore on 10th August 2025." Surya had staged a demonstration to open the Yellow Line of Bengaluru Metro Rail project recently.

Prepare reports for power generation for next 20 years: Bhatti
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka instructed electricity officials to identify 23 locations across the State to bring into large-scale use power from hydel and pumped storage sources, and submit a comprehensive report. He held a review meeting with GENCO and TRANSCO officials at Somasila in Kollapur constituency on Sunday. He reviewed the hydropower projects on the Krishna River from Jurala to Pulichintala, and suggested that if necessary, the services of globally renowned consultants should be utilised. The Deputy CM appreciated the foresight of the Congress government of 1978, which introduced advanced technologies with the help of world-famous Japanese companies like Toshiba and Mitsubishi, conducting deep studies on reverse pumping systems at the time. Further, GENCO directors and officials were instructed to draw up plans for sufficient power generation over the next 10 to 20 years in line with increasing demand.
