Silver Hits Another Record High Of Rs 1.11 Lakh Per Kg, Outshines Gold
New Delhi: Silver prices continued their upward rally on Wednesday, touching fresh all-time high on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), supported by strong industrial demand and favourable market trends.
Silver futures for July expiry hit a new all-time high of Rs 1,09,748 per kilogram on MCX, breaking Tuesday's record. The September futures jumped even higher, touching Rs 1,11,000 per kilogram. With these gains, silver is now trading nearly 25 per cent above its all-time low of Rs 88,050 per kg.
Analysts believe the metal will remain firm due to supportive fundamentals, especially with a revival in industrial demand. They suggest that investors consider silver as a medium-term tactical investment.
Meanwhile, gold prices slipped for the second straight session. Gold futures for August delivery fell by 0.2 per cent to around Rs 99,329 per 10 grams. This comes just days after gold crossed the Rs 1 lakh mark for the first time ever on the exchange.
As silver continues to rise and gold shows signs of weakness, the gold-silver ratio has dropped to around 91, after staying above 100 for much of April and May.This ratio indicates how many ounces of silver are needed to buy one ounce of gold and is often used to gauge the relative value of the two metals.
According to analysts, the gold market is currently in a wait-and-watch mode ahead of the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision on Wednesday. Other global triggers, including rising tensions between Iran and Israel and ongoing trade negotiations, are also being closely monitored by investors.
Tata Mutual Fund remains positive on gold in the long run, citing continued buying by central banks and the Fed's monetary stance as key support factors.
"Gold prices traded in a narrow range as investors await the US Federal Reserve's policy decision, scheduled for 11:30 PM IST. MCX Gold remained within the band of Rs 99,150 to Rs 99,750, while Comex gold hovered around $3,375,' Jateen Trivedi of LKP Securities said. 'The current trading range for gold is seen between Rs 98,500 to Rs 1,00,500 in the near term," he added.

Mysuru: The filing of nomination papers for the elections to the board of directors of the Mysuru-Chamarajanagar District Central Cooperative bank (MCDCC) concluded on Wednesday. As polls to elect 17 directors for MCDCC were scheduled to take place on June 26, the last day saw a big rush for the filing of nominations at the office of the deputy commissioner in Siddharth Nagar. The district administration office witnessed a flurry of activities with the candidates accompanied by their party workers and supporters, even though the elections to these posts were held non-political, without any respective party symbols. Union ministry grants environment clearance to Wayanad tunnel road project
Kozhikode: The Union environment, forest and climate change ministry has granted clearance for the construction of the controversial Rs 2,134-crore Wayanad (Anakkampoyil-Kalladi-Meppadi) twin tunnel road. The environmental clearance was granted based on the recommendation of the expert appraisal committee (infrastructure, CRZ and other miscellaneous projects), which had laid down over 60 conditions. Work on the tunnel road can now start after signing the contract, said Tiruvambadi MLA Linto Joseph. He said chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan would inaugurate the work next month. "The tunnel construction will be carried out under a tripartite agreement between PWD, KIIFB and Konkan Railway. The contract has been awarded to Bhopal-based Dilip Buildcon and Kolkata-based Royal Infrastructure. The tender process is over," he said. The central order states that clearance has been granted subject to the compliance of the 60 specific conditions laid down by environmental impact assessment, in addition to all standard conditions applicable to such projects. It said that during the operational stage, regulating speed can help mitigate adverse vibration impacts. "Additionally, ground settlement and potential subsidence in fracture zones necessitate documenting the tunnel's overburden architecture early in the process to guide precautionary measures. Other impacts include groundwater seepage through fractures, which can be evaluated through horizontal boreholes during tunnelling and guiding measures like selecting appropriate tunnelling methods. Monitoring for material creep and landslips near steep slopes should involve installing landslide sensors and vibration monitors," the order said. Environmentalists had raised concerns about the project's adverse ecological impact as it passes near high landslide-prone areas which had witnessed catastrophic landslides in 2018 and the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslides in 2024. They had vowed to challenge the decision to grant environment clearance legally. The state-level expert appraisal committee had earlier given its approval for the project. However, the term of the members of the state environmental impact assessment authority, which was to give the final approval, expired following which the project was referred to the central expert committee.
