PGA-LIV talks non-existent as new CEO takes over with full plate
There is hope from the tour that Rulapp, a veteran of two decades with the NFL, can energize stalled talks with LIV. Many prominent players would like to unify the divided tours, but optimism has dwindled since a February session with LIV and President Donald Trump at the White House.
Scott was part of the PGA contingent that huddled in D.C. with representatives from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, the financer of LIV Golf. Since then, he said there's "not much happening."
"I don't know if more White House visits are really necessary. It was really quite an experience, I have to say," Scott said Wednesday. "Those conversations haven't advanced far from there."
Scott is focused on the course this week at the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. He's under pressure in the event as the FedEx Cup playoff would start without him if he can't improve on his current standing (85th).
The mild-mannered Scott calmly said he's embracing the "do or die" position in North Carolina starting Thursday. It's the same part of Rulapp's demeanor that convinced Scott he was the right man for the tour's CEO job.
"I think he's coming in at a very interesting time in the professional game and I think that calm demeanor's going to serve him well," Scott said.

"While the quarter started with some global economic uncertainty, travel demand picked up," CEO Brian Chesky on a post-earnings call. However, the company expects night bookings growth to moderate year-over-year going into the fourth-quarter. It expects the implied take rate, or the ratio of revenue to gross bookings, to remain flat in the third quarter. In the fourth-quarter of 2024, bookings in Latin America and Asia Pacific increased a "low" 20% year-over-year after the regions also boosted results in the third-quarter. The company expects third-quarter revenue between $4.02 billion to $4.10 billion. Analysts, on average, estimated Airbnb's quarterly revenue at $4.05 billion. Nights and seats booked, an updated metric which includes the number of services booked on Airbnb's platform, rose 7% in the second quarter, while gross booking value increased 11% to $23.5 billion helped by the timing of Easter and fees for cross-currency bookings. The company reported quarterly revenue of $3.10 billion, compared with analysts' estimates of $3.04 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG. Airbnb posted a per-share profit of $1.03, compared with Wall Street estimates of 93 cents. The home-rental company also announced a new share repurchase program worth $6 billion.

'Sonny in LA' - Son joins LAFC in MLS record deal
LOS ANGELES, Aug 6 (Reuters) - South Korean forward Son Heung-min said he is "here to win" after he joined Los Angeles FC for a record Major League Soccer transfer fee, ending a decade-long stint at Tottenham Hotspur. Son was introduced at LAFC's BMO Stadium on Wednesday, where he was greeted by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and city officials amid chants and drumming from supporters' group 3252. "What can I say, dream come true. LA, what a city," Son told reporters at his unveiling. Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed by either club but the Athletic reported LAFC paid a fee in the region of $26.5 million for the 33-year-old. Son revealed LAFC was not his initial preference, but credited the club's co-president and general manager John Thorrington with persuading him to make the switch.
