The ‘ARC Raiders' Alpha Gained Players Nearly Every Single Day

The second Closed Alpha test of ARC Raiders got a lot of attention this week as word spread about the new extraction shooter.
That positive word of mouth led to a significant achievement, an increase in the number of players every day minus a tiny tick down last night, reflecting glowing sentiments about the game and also more codes being issued over time.
ARC Raiders will be a new entry in the extraction genre releasing some time this year, it's claimed. But after experiencing the Alpha it seems pretty close to ready at this point, and many are predicting developer Embark may pull off another shadow drop this summer like they did with The Finals, their other PvP game that you may not realize has in fact maintained a solidly consistent playercount over time.
Arc Raiders
Pretty quickly, ARC Raiders demonstrated how it was a somewhat less hardcore, but appealing version of Tarkov with traditional extraction elements ranging from crafting to home base upgrades. The game itself features harrowing robotic PvE enemies, including one hulking boss that was only defeated 58 times total as tens of thousands of players played the Alpha. And of course, there are plenty of PvP fights as well, the core of the experience and there have been some pretty funny clips already from the test.
What stood out most to me as I played was the sound design, relying more heavily than most other games I've ever played on footsteps, gunfire and often looting, prying open extremely loud containers or setting off blaring alarms when looting big drops. Yes, other games have this but it's also how it sounds. I've never been so terrified of cracking gunfire nearby or grit my teeth as hard as when I'm jamming a crowbar into a screaming rusted box.

Yes, all this is inevitably leading to the performance of the game versus Marathon, another high profile extraction shooter that has been running a Closed Alpha simultaneously, though a game that is obviously far less finished than ARC. It was a stark contrast in reception, and Bungie's new shooter lacked many of the extraction elements fans of that genre want, Alpha or not, while also feeling somewhat inaccessible to new players, especially those hoping to play solo. More than ARC, anyway. As such, the Marathon Closed Alpha lost PC players every day, the inverse of ARC, though some of that may be due to the somewhat inexplicable decision to barely give out new codes despite always promising more.
There are still too many unknowns to know what will happen with Marathon, but ARC? ARC seems destined to be at least some level of genre hit. I am not expecting insane numbers or the ability to dethrone Tarkov. But if it settles into a Finals cadence, I think Embark would be just fine with that.

The full summer programme for Greenwich with concerts, carnivals and food fairs
A summer of free entertainment is coming to south-east London. The Royal Borough of Greenwich has announced the return of its annual Royal Greenwich Festivals, promising a packed season of music, theatre, food, arts and culture across more than 25 events—all free to attend. Running from June 7 to September 14, the festival series will bring a vibrant mix of performances, exhibitions and workshops to neighbourhoods throughout the borough, featuring talent from both local and international artists. A spokesman for the Royal Borough of Greenwich said: "From the beloved Plumstead Make Merry, celebrating its 50th anniversary, to show-stopping spectacles at the 30th Greenwich and Docklands International Festival, we're working with more organisations than ever before to bring you the biggest and best Royal Greenwich Festivals yet. "All Royal Greenwich Festivals events are free. "Just come along, relax and enjoy world-class arts and culture on your doorstep." The season kicks off on June 7 with the 50th edition of Plumstead Make Merry, taking place from 12pm to 6pm on Plumstead Common. Visitors can expect live music, dance and drumming performances, community stalls, food, and craft activities. On June 29, Maryon Park in Charlton will host Summer in the Park, a community event featuring folk music, street arts, a food market and creative workshops. In July, the festival continues with events in Thamesmead, Eltham, Abbey Wood and Kidbrooke. Highlights include the African Masquerade and Nigerian Cultural Festival at Kidbrooke Carnival on July 12, featuring mask-making, a fashion show, Afrobeat dancing, food and market stalls. Eltham's PARKSfest on July 6 and Abbey Wood's PARKSfest on July 13 will also feature live performances and workshops from LGBTQIA+ artists, as well as family-friendly collage activities. From July 14 to August 10, The Bold Melon Collective will present Queer Migrations, an exhibition exploring LGBTQIA+ experiences, at Firepit Arts Gallery in Greenwich. Food lovers can look forward to the Greenwich Food Festival on July 26 at Glyndon Community Centre and Green in Plumstead, which will include cooking competitions, food tastings, arts workshops and health and wellbeing advice. Throughout August, Arc & You will host a series of Nigerian Cultural Finesse events across Kidbrooke, Middle Park, Abbey Wood and Shooters Hill. Each event will feature cultural displays, dance, theatre and the screening of a new documentary exploring Nigerian and British identity. The Greenwich and Docklands International Festival (GDIF) returns with a full schedule of outdoor arts, beginning with a high-energy rooftop parkour performance in Woolwich on August 22. Beresford Square will be transformed by French company Cie Lézards Bleus as eight performers take to the rooftops in a gravity-defying display. On August 23 and 24, Greenwich Park will host the popular Greenwich Fair, offering street theatre, circus acts, dance and family entertainment. GDIF will close with two days of water-based theatre at Birchmere Lake in Thamesmead on September 5 and 6, blending circus, dance and live music. The season concludes with the Woolwich Carnival on September 13. The event will feature a colourful parade through the town centre, with music, dance, food stalls and a Nigerian cultural showcase. On September 14, Southwood Park in New Eltham will host the final event of the season—a cabaret musical performance by Reach Theatre Company and a specially commissioned artist showcase. The Royal Greenwich Festivals are open to everyone and no tickets are required. Organisers encourage visitors to capture the fun on social media using #RGF2025 and tagging @royal_greenwich.

‘Destiny 2' Is Un-Nerfing ‘Edge Of Fate' Nerfs A Month Early
Destiny 2 There was a giant dump truck of Destiny 2: Edge of Fate information out this past week due to a large-scale creator event that produced an infinite number of YouTube videos on aspects of the new expansion. It was very fun to parse through as I sat in a hospital room with my newborn daughter, but on the tail end of all of it, something caught my eye. That would be a change that Bungie is making in response to creator and player feedback about a nerf they had planned for the Edge of Fate, which will now be un-nerfed a month ahead of the launch of the expansion. The idea was that Prismatic as a subclass is too strong right now, and it needed to be hammered down a bit rather than buffing five other subclasses. But those nerfs, particularly to aspects and fragments, were not well-received and said to be 'destroying' certain elements of the subclass. Now, Bungie is changing its tune. Here's what it said in a recent message: 'While we're still planning an overall tuning pass for Prismatic for a future date, featuring buffs alongside other changes, we'll be changing our approach for The Edge of Fate a bit in response to your feedback.' 'Aspects that were originally planned to be reduced to 1 fragment slot will remain at 2. We feel this is a good middle ground where some of the more potent Aspects are being tuned down, but not too much. Of course, we'll be playtesting this change internally before The Edge of Fate launch as well to make sure it's the right decision.' Bungie goes on to explain that despite these changes, when Prismatic is combined with new stats, new gear-tiering and armor 3.0, it's going to be a strong choice for either ad-clearing or boss DPS, even with fragment slot loss. We'll see, I suppose. We have not gotten a full list of subclass tuning for the upcoming Destiny 2: Edge of Fate expansion yet which is no doubt coming, as most of the focus has been on the new systems thus far.
