PM's Advisor: The Arab Media Conference Reflects the Iraqi Media Network's Success in Strengthening Arab Cooperation

Prime Minister's Advisor Hussein Allawi affirmed on Thursday that holding the Fourth Arab Media Conference in Baghdad reflects the success of the Iraqi Media Network and its communication with Arab countries and corresponding official media institutions. He pointed out that the Iraqi Media Network promotes the country's tourism and historical heritage to promote stability and support the country's tourism sector.
Allawi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Following the success of the Arab, economic, and development summits hosted by Baghdad, there is now significant success being capitalized on by Iraqi state institutions, most notably the Iraqi Media Network by holding the Fourth Arab Media Conference in cooperation with the Arab Broadcasting Union." He explained that "holding this conference demonstrates the success of the Iraqi Media Network's work and its communication with Arab countries and official media networks and institutions in Arab countries."
He added, "The conference is part of the Iraqi Media Network's efforts to discuss recent developments in the media world, Iraqi-Arab media cooperation, and the paths of media partnership in Arab programs and policies. It also addresses challenges on social media, combats extremism and violence, and other challenges facing Arab public opinion."
He pointed out that "the conference discusses partnerships in shaping Arab public opinion through joint programs and training, women's empowerment, and support for young people working in the media sector, both in Iraq and in Arab countries. It also includes initiatives that focus on positive media images, improving content on social media, developing programs, and addressing public opinion in the Arab world."
Regarding the conference's coincidence with the announcement of Baghdad as the Arab Tourism Capital, Allawi explained, "This coincidence is very important and comes within the framework of marketing stability and the state's support for the tourism sector." He noted that "the selection of Baghdad as the Arab Tourism Capital represents an important milestone."
He continued, "The Iraqi Media Network has worked to market and promote tourism facilities and the great historical heritage that spans seven thousand years," noting that "Iraq has been able to transform security challenges into a major opportunity after the victory of our armed forces over terrorist organizations."

China 'firmly rejects' US claims it violated Geneva tariffs deal
INA- sources China said Monday it "firmly rejects" US claims that it had violated a sweeping tariffs deal, as tensions between the two economic superpowers showed signs of ratcheting back up. Beijing and Washington last month agreed to slash staggeringly high tariffs on each other for 90 days after talks between top officials in Geneva. But top Washington officials last week accused China of violating the deal, with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick saying Beijing was "slow-rolling" the agreement in comments to "Fox News Sunday". China hit back Monday, saying Washington "has made bogus charges and unreasonably accused China of violating the consensus, which is seriously contrary to the facts". "China firmly rejects these unreasonable accusations," its commerce ministry said in a statement. US President Donald Trump said last week that China had "totally violated" the deal, without providing details. Beijing's commerce ministry said it "has been firm in safeguarding its rights and interests, and sincere in implementing the consensus". It fired back that Washington "has successively introduced a number of discriminatory restrictive measures against China" since the Geneva talks. The ministry cited export controls on artificial intelligence chips, curbs on the sale of chip design software and the revocation of Chinese student visas in the United States. "We urge the US to meet China halfway, immediately correct its wrongful actions, and jointly uphold the consensus from the Geneva trade talks," the ministry said. If not, "China will continue to resolutely take strong measures to uphold its legitimate rights and interests," it added. Trump-Xi talks? US officials have said they are frustrated by what they see as Chinese foot-dragging on approving export licences for rare earths and other elements needed to make cars and chips. But Washington's Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent looked to ease the pressure on Sunday, saying the two sides could arrange a call between their respective heads of state to resolve their differences. "I'm confident... this will be ironed out" in a call between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Bessent said on CBS's "Face the Nation". He added, however, that China was "withholding some of the products that they agreed to release", including rare earths. On when a Trump-Xi call could take place, Bessent said: "I believe we will see something very soon." China has been less forthcoming, and the commerce ministry's statement on Monday did not mention any planned conversations between the two leaders. The Geneva deal was "an important consensus reached by the two sides on the principle of mutual respect and equality, and its results were hard-won", the ministry said. It warned Washington against "going its own way and continuing to harm China's interests". Global stocks finished mixed on Friday after Trump made his social media post accusing Beijing. The Hong Kong stock exchange was down around 2 percent shortly after opening on Monday.

Petroleum Sector in New AI-based Iraqi National Memory Project

Petroleum Sector in A New AI-based Iraqi National Memory Project A group of dedicated artificial intelligence (AI) specialists and professionals are enthusiastically racing against time and actively working on a first of its kind major mission: Iraqi National Memory Project (INMP). It is a national initiative to preserve and digitize over a century of historical, political, economic, and cultural documents, among others, by using AI tools and facilities. INMP is a collaborative effort between the NewsSocial[1], which is a UK-registered cooperative society building a next-generation platform for collaborative intelligence, memory, and AI-enabled public infrastructure, and the Mushtarek Platform of Iraq, where it plays a key role in the INMP.[2] Currently, INMP is in the formation and testing phase, the formal launching of the project is scheduled for the end of the year. The first public activity during this experimental phase was about petroleum sector in Iraq; the backbone of the Iraqi economy. The Mushtarek Platform called for and convened a meeting using Zoom facility on Friday, 9 May 2025.[3] A brief introduction to the event was delivered by Ms. Bayda Hamed, Editor of the INMP and the moderator of the event, followed by my presentation linking Iraq Petroleum Sector Chronicle (IPSC) with INMP, then Dr. Ali Al-Assam, Director at NewsSocial, outlined in a concise way what, how and why AI facilities are used for this project. The moderator starts the session for comments, Q & A and debate until the end of the event. In my PowerPoint participation I reiterated my emphatic support for INMP and highlighted the strong links and synergies between this initiative and my own database, which I have been working on it for nearly three decades. My major research and publishing work is documented through a series of books, published under unified title- Iraq Petroleum Sector Chronicle (IPSC); six volumes are already published, covering the period up to end 2015, and new volumes are in the pipeline, covering the period from 2016 onwards. All IPSC books rest on three pillars: Database, Connectivity & Networking, and Research Methodology. Large, wide, detailed, well organised and continuously updated database . Roughly, 80% of the database is related to Iraqi issues and topics, 70% of which are on the sector-wide petroleum. Each year has its own "master annual file-MAF", which in turn feeds into numerous "thematic or specific" files. These MAFs and the thematic files are the core of IPSC project books. Selected charts representing the main development in the petroleum sector were presented. I concluded my presentation by emphasising my unwavering support for INMP and call others, particularly the young generation of professionals, to follow suit. PUK's head urges Baghdad to resolve Kurdistan salaries
Shafaq News/ The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's (PUK) head Bafel Talabani said on Sunday that he has been in direct contact with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to address the ongoing salary crisis for public employees in the Kurdistan Region. Speaking at an event in al-Sulaymaniyah marking the PUK's 50th anniversary, Talabani said, 'I have spoken with al-Sudani about the salary payments for Kurdistan employees, and we are awaiting a solution to this issue.' The salary dispute has been a persistent source of tension between Erbil and Baghdad. The federal government's recent decision to halt salary disbursements to the Region's employees has fueled criticism in Kurdistan and raised concerns over the economic well-being of thousands of families. Talabani emphasized that the PUK continues to play a balancing role in Kurdistan and is viewed with respect both in Baghdad and across the Region. 'The Kurdish people have no issue with our Arab brothers, and the PUK is committed to resolving disputes with Baghdad,' he said. Addressing regional issues, Talabani highlighted the PUK's role in the peace process in Turkiye, saying, 'The PUK has an important role to play in this process and is capable of defending the rights of the Kurdish people.'
