Dubai's Al Shindagha Corridor project marks key milestone
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has announced the completion of the final bridge in the Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mina Street intersection upgrade, marking the end of all phases of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project on the Bur Dubai side.
With this fifth and final bridge in place, traffic now flows uninterrupted from Al Garhoud Bridge through Infinity Bridge all the way to Port Rashid and the Waterfront Market.
Travel time along the corridor has been slashed from 80 minutes to just 12, with key routes like Jumeirah Street to Infinity Bridge now taking only five minutes.
The RTA's Director-General Mattar Al Tayer said this project is one of the largest infrastructure initiatives in the city, spanning 13 km and involving 18 km of bridges and tunnels.
The corridor, which supports growing development in areas like Deira, Bur Dubai, Dubai Islands and Port Rashid, is designed to serve a population of one million and boost traffic capacity to 24,000 vehicles per hour by 2030.
Travel time is expected to drop to just 16 minutes, with economic benefits estimated at AED 45 billion over the next two decades.
Meanwhile, work continues on the Al Khaleej Street Tunnel project, which extends from the end of Infinity Bridge ramp in Deira to the intersection of Al Khaleej Street and Cairo Street. The 1,650-metre tunnel will have three lanes in each direction.
The RTA has also commenced construction of entry and exit points for Dubai Islands in the area between Infinity Bridge and Port Rashid redevelopment area.

The final phase in 2026 will complete the transition towards eliminating single-use plastics. Enforcement measures include fines for non-compliance, starting at AED 200 and escalating for repeated violations. Certain exemptions will apply, such as for products intended for export or specific uses like packaging for fresh produce.

SRTA launches ‘On-Demand Buses' service in Sharjah
Flexible, direct mobility solution This innovative service offers passengers a flexible and direct mode of transport from their homes to their daily destinations, particularly in areas not fully served by the current public bus network. It promotes the concept of an integrated transport system across the emirate. Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, chairman of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), emphasised the need for a flexible, sustainable public transport system in light of Sharjah's rapid urban and population expansion. The On-Demand Buses service reflects SRTA's vision for reducing private vehicle use, thereby lowering congestion and carbon emissions. Enhancing quality of life through smart transport Al Othmani added that public transport is central to improving quality of life and mobility within the emirate. SRTA continues to invest in modern transport technologies and expand smart services for all while committing to a safe and sustainable transport environment that aligns with Sharjah's strategic vision for a more balanced and prosperous urban future. Affordable, smart and user-friendly The first phase includes two buses operating daily from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, with a nominal fare of AED 8 per trip. Children under five travel for free. Users can request and track buses in real time via a smart app, which also allows for cashless payments and instant quality feedback. The system enables users to set their pick-up and drop-off points without being restricted to fixed bus stops or schedules, offering flexibility tailored to residents' and visitors' needs. The service facilitates convenient travel from residential areas to daily destinations, including commercial centres, restaurants, service facilities, and workplaces—reducing dependence on private cars and improving overall accessibility. Smart features Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, Director of Transport Affairs at SRTA, stated that buses are equipped with internal surveillance cameras to ensure a safe travel environment. Linked to AI systems, the buses collect real-time data on passenger numbers, demographics, and usage patterns, enabling data-driven decision-making for improved operations and future planning. The buses are also equipped to accommodate people of determination, with features that ensure easy boarding and movement. The launch coincided with the Eid Al-Adha holidays—an ideal time due to increased travel activity. The initiative is part of SRTA's long-term strategy for a scalable, smart, and sustainable transport network. Eid Al Adha in UAE: Free parking, revised public transport timings; full guide
With a four-day weekend being announced across the UAE for Eid Al Adha this year, residents are flying out and planning activities with their families. Also known as the 'Festival of Sacrifice,' the holiday commemorates the act of faith and is generally a time for prayer, reflection, and generosity. Here's the latest on revised parking and public transport timings across emirates: Abu Dhabi Parking and toll fees are typically free in the capital on Sundays and official holidays. On June 4, the emirate's Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), an affiliate of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has announced that bus services will operate according to the weekend and public holiday schedule. There are additional trips on regional and intercity routes. The Abu Dhabi Link service will continue to operate as usual, from 6am to 11pm. Meanwhile, the Abu Dhabi Express bus service will be available from 6am until midnight. Dubai Public parking will be free to use from June 5 to 8 in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority announced. Multi-level parking terminals will remain a paid service during the holiday. The authority also announced public transport timings for the holiday. Dubai Metro will run from 5am to 1am (next day) from Wednesday, June 4, to Saturday, June 7.
