Paramount+ with Showtime is no more: What is the name of the streaming service's new ad-free tier?

Time of India7 hours ago

Paramount+ has long touted its association with Showtime as a selling point for its higher-priced premium tier. However, that is now changing, with the streaming service undergoing a rebrand and dropping the Paramount+ with Showtime tier, and instead simplifying its offerings to the ad-supported Paramount+ Essential, and the ad-free Paramount+ Premium.
This isn't because of Showtime content being removed from the service. Rather, a sampling of Showtime's programming has been added to the ad-supported Paramount+ Essential tier, thus diluting the distinction between the two tiers.
This is simply a branding change that does not affect the pricing of either the Essential or Premium tier, with Essential still costing $7.99 per month, and Premium still costing $12.99 per month. Furthermore, this change only affects internet streaming, with cable, satellite and live TV services retaining the Paramount+ with Showtime branding.
Paramount+ with Showtime first launched in 2022
The streaming service first launched its Paramount+ with Showtime subscription tier in August 2022. The service intended to use the massive, acclaimed library of Showtime content to bolster the value of its higher-tier subscription bracket.
In 2023, the streaming service had as many as four subscription tiers. There was Paramount+ Essential, Paramount+ Premium, Paramount+ Essential with Showtime, and Paramount+ Premium with Showtime.
This subscription model was greatly simplified in June of that year, resulting in just two subscription tiers: Paramount+ Essential and Paramount+ with Showtime.
With the further streamlining that's occurred in June 2025, Showtime content will be available for both the Essential and Premium tiers, although viewers will still need to subscribe to Paramount+ Premium for an ad-free experience and the complete Showtime library.
Paramount+ began life as CBS All Access
Paramount+ is the media conglomerate Paramount's answer to the streaming boom that was originally spearheaded by pioneers such as Netflix. But the service was originally CBS All Access, the first OTT streaming service launched by an established American broadcast network.
CBS All Access would be rebranded as Paramount+ in 2021, in an era were OTT streaming was beginning to eclipse traditional cable and network television as the dominant form service used by viewers. Under this rebranding, Paramount+ has aggressively pursued the production of original exclusives such as MobLand, Tulsa King and Halo.

Kidney cancer – or renal cell carcinoma (RCC) – develops in the kidneys, crucial organs responsible for filtering blood and removing toxins via urine. RCC is the most common form, and unfortunately, it's informally known for 'silent growth': many people with early-stage RCC have no symptoms. By the time symptoms manifest – such as blood in urine or back pain – the disease may already be advanced. Around 50% of RCC cases are detected quite late. Once diagnosed, Stage 4 indicates the cancer has spread beyond the kidneys. Early signs of kidney cancer : What to watch for Although early detection is rare, being aware of subtle changes can save lives. Early signs of kidney cancer can be subtle or absent, but some potential indicators include blood in the urine, persistent pain in the side or lower back, and unexplained weight loss. Other possible symptoms include fatigue, a lump or mass in the abdomen, and fever. Here are the most common early warning signs: Hematuria (blood in urine): Often appears as pink, red, or dark brown urine. May be painless, intermittent, or only visible under a microscope. One of the most significant red flags for RCC Persistent back or side pain: Typically affects one flank, just below the ribs. It can range from a dull ache to intense discomfort. Palpable lump or mass: In some cases, a physician may feel a lump in the abdomen or side during a physical exam. Unexplained weight loss and loss of appetite: Unintentional weight loss paired with reduced appetite may indicate systemic effects of a tumor. Chronic fatigue or weakness: Anemia from internal bleeding or metabolic changes can lead to exhaustion. Unexplained fever and night sweats: Low-grade fevers and excessive sweating at night may accompany cancer even without infection. Swelling in legs and ankles: Results from fluid retention, possibly due to impaired kidney function, might be an early indicator. While some symptoms can be subtle, it's important to be aware of potential warning signs and seek medical attention if you experience any concerning symptoms, especially if you have risk factors for kidney cancer. Early diagnosis and treatment can significantly improve outcomes and increase the chances of successful recovery. How to prevent To help prevent kidney cancer, focus on a healthy lifestyle. This includes maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, and avoiding tobacco use. Additionally, managing chronic health issues like high blood pressure and being mindful of potential workplace toxins can be beneficial. Regular medical checkups are also crucial for early detection. Here's a more detailed look: Lifestyle modifications: Eat a Balanced Diet. Focus on a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and consider limiting processed foods and red meat. Maintain a Healthy Weight. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of kidney cancer. Exercise Regularly. Physical activity helps with weight management and overall health, which can reduce the risk of kidney cancer. Avoid tobacco use and limit alcohol consumption: Smoking is a major risk factor for kidney cancer. On the other hand, while moderate alcohol consumption might be associated with a slight decrease in risk, it's generally advised to avoid excessive alcohol intake due to its link with other cancers. Manage chronic conditions: High blood pressure and other chronic health issues can increase the risk of kidney cancer. Managing these conditions with medication and lifestyle changes can be beneficial. Stay hydrated: Adequate hydration can help maintain kidney health and reduce the risk of kidney stones, which can increase the risk of kidney cancer. Be aware of workplace toxins: Some chemicals, like trichloroethylene, have been linked to kidney cancer. If you work with such substances, take necessary precautions and be aware of potential risks. Regular medical checkups: Routine checkups, including imaging tests like ultrasound, can help detect kidney cancer early, when it's often more treatable. Israel-Iran ceasefire: A fragile pause

Notwithstanding its fragility, the ceasefire between Israel and Iran is a promising development. When the US bombed Iran's nuclear facilities on June 22, a big concern was the absence of an off-ramp — a face-saver for Iran, after which de-escalation could become a serious possibility. Yet, US President Donald Trump's declaration of a ceasefire came just hours after Iran announced a missile attack on a US base in Qatar. Remarkably, the US President thanked Iran on social media for giving advance notice — a move he claimed helped avoid the loss of any Qatari or American lives. While tensions between Washington and Tehran appear to be easing, the actual signatories of the Trump-brokered deal have continued to exchange fire. Each belligerent, however, may now have a victory story to sell to its domestic audience: The US has said it has 'obliterated' Iran's nuclear programme, Israel can say it has weakened a major regional adversary, and Iran can say it pushed back against stronger countries. Even though both Iran and Israel have confirmed it, the future of the ceasefire remains uncertain. Both Tel Aviv and Tehran would do well to consider the high costs of failing to contain the conflict. Iran, in particular, has suffered extensive losses — its air force and air defences have been severely damaged, oil depots burned, and key military leadership eliminated. Though Tehran refrained from closing the Strait of Hormuz, the global economy remains hostage to the stability of the region. With Gaza still under siege, a failure to de-escalate risks the conflict spilling into neighbouring countries like Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq, potentially fuelling a rise in militancy and extremism. A surge in displacement and refugee flows would deepen instability in a world strained by wars in Africa and Eastern Europe. The case for peace could hardly be stronger. In the long term, Iran should prioritise transparency and diplomacy over clandestine activities with respect to its nuclear programme. In light of how easily its air defences were overwhelmed, the worst scenario is that Iran — like North Korea — may now conclude that the best way to protect itself is a nuclear deterrent. Israel, on its part, should resort to diplomacy, and not military adventurism, to have its security concerns addressed in any lasting way.

These Are the Worlds Top Arms Dealers – Where Does India Rank?

New Delhi: World nations are diverting funds from education and healthcare toward escalating arms purchases, spurred by geopolitical uncertainty and growing fears of conflict. From ancient swords to modern missiles and smart drones, weaponry has advanced and trade in military systems has skyrocketed. According to recent data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the United States has surged ahead as the top exporter of arms. Between 2015–19 and 2020–24, American exports grew by 21%, raising its global share from 35% to 43%. About 107 countries now source weapons from the United States. Notably, Europe overtook the Middle East in imports, taking in 35% of US exports versus the Middle East's 33%. Saudi Arabia alone accounts for 12% of US arms purchases. In contrast, Russia – long considered America's rival – has seen its share of global arms exports decline by 64% in the same period. Sanctions stemming from the Ukraine conflict have shifted demand, leading many nations to pivot away from Russian suppliers toward American systems. What about India's position? Though India still trails in arms exports, it is entering the global defense market with momentum. Recent defense collaborations involve smaller arms, missile systems and tactical equipment sold to countries such as the Philippines, Vietnam and Armenia – hinting at New Delhi's growing niche in military trade. On the import side, the SIPRI identifies Ukraine as the world's biggest weapons buyer, having increased its purchases a staggering 100-fold between 2015–19 and 2020–24. India follows in second place, although its arms imports dropped by 9.3% in 2020–24. At present, India accounts for 8.3% of global arms imports. This data reveals how current global tensions impact national security strategies. Countries now heavily invest in military capabilities, illustrating a broader shift from peacetime development priorities to strategic preparedness. India's dual role as both a leading importer and emerging exporter reflects a complex balancing act – modernise domestic capabilities while projecting regional influence through defense diplomacy.
