Jatt Box Office Collection Day 20: Sunny Deol's film just Rs 10 cr shy of breaching Rs 100 cr mark but may fall short due to Akshay Kumar's Kesari 2, Ajay Devgn's Raid 2
Jatt Box Office Collection Day 20: Jatt, starring Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda and Vineet Kumar Singh, is about to cross the Rs 90 crore mark with the current Indian nett collection at Rs 86.3 crore. The film saw a considerable decline in footfall since the release of Kesari 2, starring Akshay Kumar. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film could only manage Rs 65 lakh on its third Tuesday and the same number a day prior. It seems that the heavily promoted action film is somehow dragging itself across the line with competitors right on its tail.
Directed by Gopichand Malineni, the film had a strong first week at the theatres, but Kesari 2 swooped in after it spent 8 days at the ticket windows and bit off a sizable chunk of the audience. Deol is coming off a mega-hit in Gadar 2, which earned over Rs 500 crore in net collection and had surpassed the current Jatt collection in the first three days of its theatrical release. While Gadar 2 had more factors working for it, such as nostalgia and the franchise name, Deol was hoping to achieve at least a fraction of that success with Jatt.
The total occupancy of Jatt on its third Tuesday was 11%, with the morning and afternoon shows bringing in 6% and 11%, while the evening and night shows saw a marginal rise, achieving 14% and 16%, respectively. With Akshay Kumar 's historical drama already on its tail, Emraan Hashmi 's Ground Zero is also affecting Jatt's numbers, although not greatly.
Kesari 2 is currently sitting at Rs 70 crore in India and has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide, according to Dharma Productions, while Ground Zero has managed to earn Rs 6.46 crore in the first five days of its theatrical release. While Jatt is currently fending off both these productions, the road to Rs 100 crore is only about to get more difficult with Raid 2 releasing on May 1.
Raid 2 will be helmed by director Raj Kumar Gupta, and the cast of the film includes Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, and Vaani Kapoor. Devgn will be returning as the honest and gritty IRS officer Amay Patnaik, aiming to take down Deshmukh. The first film, which was released back in 2018, achieved an India nett collection of Rs 103.07 crore.
