Fake police arrested for running ‘crime bureau'
The 'International Police and Crime Investigation Bureau', run from an office decorated with 'police-like colours and logos', was located in New Delhi satellite city Noida, police said in a statement late Sunday.
The accused forged documents and certificates and ran a website where they sought 'donations' from victims, police said.
They also claimed they had an 'affiliation with Interpol' and other international crime units.
'The perpetrators presented themselves as public servants,' the police said, recovering several mobile phones, chequebooks, stamp seals and identity cards.
The arrests come just weeks after a man was arrested for allegedly running a fake embassy from a rented house near New Delhi and duping job seekers of money with promises of employment abroad.
The accused operated an illegal 'West Arctic embassy' and claimed to be the ambassador of fictional nations including 'West Arctica, Saborga, Poulvia, Lodonia'. — AFP

He said police, in cooperation with Interpol, are tracking down the suspect, who is believed to have left the country with the remaining 100 chips worth RM1mil. Police recover RM2m stolen Genting casino chips in Kuantan
KUANTAN: Police have successfully recovered 200 casino chips worth RM2 million, part of a larger theft at Genting Highlands earlier this month. The stolen chips were among 300 taken from the Bentong resort on August 2. Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman confirmed the recovery after a man surrendered the chips following media reports. Police seize RM2mil chips stolen from Genting casino
KUANTAN: Police have seized 200 out of 300 casino chips worth RM2 million that were stolen from a casino room in Genting Highlands, Bentong, on Aug 2. Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the seizure was made after a man surrendered the chips at the Bentong district police headquarters on Aug 8, following media reports on the case. He said investigations showed that the man, in his 30s, had bought the 200 chips from the suspect, who is also a "junket", on Aug 2. "The transaction was conducted in person at the Genting Grand lobby, involving 200 chips worth RM2 million, with each chip valued at RM10,000. "However, the remaining 100 chips worth RM1 million are believed to still be in the possession of the 44-year-old suspect, who is still being tracked down," he told reporters here today. It was reported that police were tracking down a man in connection with the disappearance of the chips from a casino room in Genting Highlands. The suspect, believed to be a former casino employee, is from Kajang, Selangor. Yahaya said, based on information received, the suspect had fled abroad, and police would work with the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) to locate him.
