Egypt, Turkey affirm rejection of Israeli plan to reoccupy Gaza - Foreign Affairs

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Turkey's foreign minister, Hakan Fidan, reaffirmed Cairo and Ankara's rejection of Israel's plan to reoccupy the Gaza Strip during talks in Cairo on Saturday.
Egyptian presidency spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that the two sides called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza war, the unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid to the strip, an exchange of captives and prisoners, and rejection of any displacement of Palestinians from their land.
On Friday, Egypt and Turkey issued statements rejecting the Israeli cabinet's decision to expand its 22-month-long genocidal war on Gaza, seize full control of Gaza City and reoccupy the strip.
Earlier this week, the Egyptian president said the war on Gaza was no longer about hostages or political aims, but 'a war of starvation, genocide, and an attempt to eliminate the Palestinian cause.'
The meeting, which was attended by Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, also covered the situations in Libya, Syria, and Sudan, with El-Sisi outlining Egypt's vision for peace and stability. Both sides stressed respect for sovereignty, the preservation of territorial integrity and the protection of national resources.
El-Sisi praised progress in Egyptian-Turkish ties since a February 2024 agreement to upgrade the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meetings to head-of-state level.
The two governments agreed to boost economic cooperation towards their goal of $15 billion in bilateral trade, set by El-Sisi and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during talks in Ankara last September.

Egypt warns that displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip is a ‘red line'

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said on Saturday that Egypt will not allow any plans to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to be implemented, and warned that this is a 'red line.' During a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, following talks in Cairo on Saturday, Abdelatty added that the latest developments in Gaza are very serious and cannot be ignored. It concerns not only the Palestinian people and Gaza's neighbors, but all of humanity, he said, emphasizing that 'these crimes and their widespread nature cannot be tolerated.' Regarding Israel's plans to displace Palestinians, the Egyptian minister said, 'We have repeatedly declared that this is a red line for us, for Jordan, and for the countries of the region, and we will not allow it to be implemented.' Abdelatty slammed Israel's plans as miserable, desperate, and unacceptable, noting the coordination of positions with Arab nations and within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to mobilize efforts to confront Israel's 'irresponsible actions, which reflect extremely dangerous perceptions that cannot be tolerated.' He pointed out that Israel cannot be allowed to re-engineer the region, explaining that this matter will be raised at the Arab League ministerial meeting, in addition to being discussed with all regional parties. 'No party can be allowed to dominate, impose its will, or impose a re-engineering of the region. This is completely unacceptable,' he stressed. He emphasized that any arrangements in the region must comply with the principles of international law, such as non-interference in the internal affairs of states and respect for sovereignty.

Egypt's 11th aid convoy dispatched to Gaza, carrying fuel

Egypt's 11th aid convoy for Gaza left the Rafah crossing on Saturday, led by three diesel tankers — bringing the total fuel deliveries to five trucks in a week — amid Israel's deadly five-month blockade of the besieged strip and its ongoing 22-month-long genocidal war. Last Sunday, two fuel trucks joined the sixth convoy, signalling what could become a weekly fuel corridor. Live coverage from the Rafah border crossing showed the convoy carrying more than 3,000 tonnes of food, medical supplies, personal care items, infant formula, and tens of thousands of loaves of bread, prepared by the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC). The Egyptian aid trucks head to the Israeli-controlled Karm Abu Salem crossing—open from 8am to 5pm—where ERC officials say trucks face hours-long inspections despite earlier agreements on procedures, before being unloaded to the Palestinian Red Crescent and United Nations (UN) agencies for distribution. Over 5,000 aid trucks remain queued on the Egyptian side, awaiting entry into Gaza as part of Cairo's effort to counter the total ban on food, water, fuel, and medicine imposed since 2 March. On Wednesday, ERC executive director Amal Imam said Egypt had sent 36,000 trucks carrying over 500,000 tonnes of aid since the war began—70 percent humanitarian supplies and 30 percent relief and medical goods. The Israeli blockade has pushed much of Gaza's 2.3 million population into famine, killing 212 Palestinians, half of them children. Alongside land convoys, Egyptian Armed Forces Spokesman, Brigadier General Gharib Abdel Hafez, said the military had airdropped food into hard-to-reach areas of Gaza using 12 transport aircraft. On Tuesday, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi called the conflict 'a war of starvation and genocide,' demanding an immediate ceasefire and the unrestricted entry of life-saving humanitarian aid, and rejecting accusations that Egypt was blocking supplies. In May, Israel backed a US-registered Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), opening four distribution centres near which occupation forces killed over 1,500 starving, aid-seeking Palestinians, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The GHF was condemned by Egypt, other global and regional powers, and dozens of international aid agencies as a "mechanism of death." Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
