Iowa women's basketball star Hannah Stuelke praises program's transfer additions
Stuelke, who recently rejoined the program's summer scrimmages after capturing the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup with Team USA, discussed her impressions on the two new acquisitions and how they can help the team in the upcoming season.
'Chit-Chat (Wright) is going to be a great point guard for us, whether she starts or not. She's going to have an impact," Stuelke said. "And Emely (Rodriguez), she's super crafty, and I love her game. She's going to be fun to watch.'
Both transfers will have three years of eligibility remaining after spending their freshman seasons elsewhere before joining the Hawkeyes.
Sophomore guard Chazadi "Chit-Chat" Wright joined Iowa on April 23, after spending her freshman year at Georgia Tech.
During her lone season with the Yellow Jackets, Wright appeared in all 33 games and started 12, averaging 7.2 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game while shooting 37.1% from the field, 32.3% from 3-point range and 88.6% from the free-throw line
Rodriguez joined the Hawkeyes through the transfer portal on May 19 after spending her first year at Central Florida.
With the Knights, Rodriguez earned All-Big 12 Freshman Team honors after averaging 11.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 40.9% from the field, 33.3% from 3-point range, and 75.3% from the free-throw line in 25 games played. Rodriguez immediately adds to the Hawkeyes' depth on the wing.
While Iowa continues its preparations for the upcoming season, fan anticipation continues to rise as the Hawkeyes aim to regain their swagger among women's college basketball's elite.

Veteran Caleb Wheatland set to lead Auburn's talented, young linebacker room
The Maryland transfer brings a wealth of knowledge to the Plains after logging 12 starts at Maryland. The Auburn Tigers' biggest question on defense this season resides within the linebacker room. Sure, the Tigers have plenty of talent with the likes of Demarcus Riddick, Robert Woodyard, Xavier Adkins, and Bryce Deas. However, neither of the aforementioned has more than three games of starting experience. In steps Caleb Wheatland, a senior linebacker who broke into a vital Power Four role last season at Maryland by starting 11 games for the Terrapins. He brings a wealth of knowledge to Auburn's young room, which made him an attractive transfer portal piece to head coach Hugh Freeze last offseason. Earlier this week, Freeze shared that Wheatland's starting experience, as well as his leadership ability, will be vital to Auburn's defense this season. 'We like our linebackers that we have, but it felt like the youth needed some experience. You go get a guy that started a bunch of games in Power Four football and is a really good kid and good player. You just felt like you needed somebody to add to that youth in that room. (Robert) Woodyard is still young, (Antonio) Melendez is still young, I think they are both going to be two really good Mike linebackers, but can we get one that has some experience. And that's what we have in Caleb.' Wheatland logged 100 tackles in three seasons at Maryland, with 15 tackles for loss and three pass deflections. He took a step forward in pass rush and coverage skill last season by grading out 72.2 and 74.4, respectively, according to Pro Football Focus. According to PFF data, Wheatland applied 15 pressures to opposing quarterbacks, four resulting in sacks. As a coverage man, Wheatland allowed 15 passes to be caught in 26 opportunities, giving opposing receivers a catch rate of 57.7%. Wheatland and Riddick will be Auburn's most experienced linebackers this season. As a freshman in 2024, Riddick logged 27 tackles with three sacks in 12 games, making three starts. He created 16 pressures last season, and had three games where he registered three pressures. In 239 snaps, he missed just six tackles, which makes him an efficient linebacker that will be sure to improve with more reps this season. Watch Freeze's opening press conference of fall camp below. Patriots cut former Texas A&M star running back in roster move
Football season is right around the corner, and NFL teams are already reshuffling their rosters. Unfortunately for one former Texas A&M running back, he's back on the market just months after signing a new deal. On Friday evening, the New England Patriots released veteran backup Trayveon Williams, who had signed with the team in May. This kind of roster churn is common in the NFL, but the timing offers Williams a shot at landing elsewhere before training camps are in full swing. Williams was drafted in the sixth round by the Cincinnati Bengals following a standout junior season at A&M, where he earned First-Team All-SEC and Second-Team All-American honors. He spent six seasons with the Bengals, primarily contributing on special teams. When his playing time began to decrease, he made the move to New England this summer. Running back roles have evolved over the past few decades, with most teams now carrying three backs, two of whom must also contribute on special teams. MSU football to reportedly host in-state 4-star WR for unofficial visit
Michigan State football will host one of the top in-state 2027 prospects for its season-opener later this month. Chad Willis of Orchard Lake, Mich. will reportedly visit Michigan State for the Spartans' season-opener against Western Michigan on August 29. Jason Killop of On3 reported the notable upcoming recruiting visit for Willis to Michigan State. Willis is a four-star wide receiver with a recruiting rating of 91.04 in 247Sports' composite system. He ranks as the No. 30 wide receiver and No. 224 overall prospect in 247Sports' rankings for the 2027 class. He is also listed as the No. 3 player from Michigan in the class. Michigan State has already previously extended an offer to Willis, and is one of more than 20 schools to also offer him, according to 247Sports.
