Akhil Sachdeva on singers cult fanbase: ‘Musicians ne actors ko insecure kiya'
Akhil Sachdeva is not just a singer; his soulful voice is an experience. From his top hits like Humsafar to recent releases like Tu Chand Hai, Akhil has carved a unique space in the Indian music industry. But what lies beneath the voice that makes you miss your ex, your bachpan ka pyaar, and everything in between?
In an exclusive conversation with India.com, Akhil Sachdeva opened up about his journey from cricket to music, from theatre to becoming a household name in romantic melodies. The Song That Almost Didn't Happen: Tu Chand Hai
On speaking about his recent song 'Tu Chand hai', he admitted that he usually composes and writes his own music, so singing someone else's composition felt off. Released under a Dubai-based music label, the song was initially rejected by Akhil. He was travelling during that time and didn't feel connected to the song. Later, his wife convinced him to give it another listen: 'You are melody, and this melody suits your voice.' He ended up singing it in just one take, and the rest is history. 'I'm glad I did it. The song went into a completely different zone once I sang it,' he says. When asked about cross-border collaborations (particularly with Pakistani artists), Akhil says: 'Music has no boundaries—that's something I've always believed. But given the current situation, we have to stand with our country. And we are doing that. I'm proud to stand with my nation.'
Singing wasn't Akhil's first choice; in fact, Akhil's first passion was cricket, and he dreamt of playing for India. However, that couldn't materialize. Later, he went to Mumbai and got enrolled in a 3-month acting course with Barry John, where Barry John himself asked him life-defining questions: 'Are you sure you want to be an actor or a musician?'
There, he also met his friend Niharika Singh, who was in the same acting class. She suggested that Akhil take advice from a Guruji who is currently his singing Guru. His Guruji also saw Akhil's inclination towards music and suggested he follow the path.
And today, Akhil has become a top singer, and he believes he was destined to become a musician. 'I didn't choose music, music chose me'
Akhil also revealed that he has been offered many web series and films, but he currently doesn't want to sail in two ships so he is just focusing on his music. Akhil Sachdeva on musicians getting their due appreciation
Speaking about Indian singer getting their due appreciation and recognition, Akhil shares that he feels that the Indian music industry is currently at its peak. He even feels that a lot of actors want to become singers, and the singer's cult fan base has surpassed that of actors. He even feels that the music scene has made actors insecure. 'Music scene ne kahin an kahin ja kar actors ko insecure bhi kiya hai.' . He feels that Indian music system is undergoing a transformation and evolving. What's coming next for Akhil Sachdeva
After his new release of 'Tu chand hai', Akhil is geared up for many of his major projects coming soon this year. He hinted that 3 new songs are coming by July itself, and 2 more songs with Big Star are also being released this year.
Besides this, Akhil Sachdeva spoke about his personal life, dealing with depression after his losing his mother, and the interesting story of his love life. Watch the video for the full conversation.

4 Indian plays so powerful, they will haunt you long after the lights go out
(Written by Taniya Chopra) 'All the world's a stage' as Shakespeare once said and nowhere is this more true than in India. The Indian stage has always found a way to speak to its time. With its old roots and ever-evolving forms, it continues to be a reflection and a critique of society. Across languages, Indian plays have dared to question power and expose injustice. Each of these plays are written in different decades and portray realities that remain very relevant today. These are the stories that make you question your thoughts. They will continue to stay with you long after the curtain falls. 'My life is my own- I haven't sold it to anyone for a job! My will is my own. My wishes are my own. No one can kill those- no one! I'll do what I like with myself and my life!' A play within a play that blurs the line between reality and performance. Begins with a group of actors gathering to rehearse a play about a court trial. Leela Benare is pushed into the role of the accused. The fictional charges against her is infanticide, but beneath that lie deeper judgments for being unmarried in her thirties, for having relationships, for refusing to conform to what society expects of a woman. The stage becomes a space of judgment, not just performance. Under the guise of only a play, we see a relentless public shaming of a woman who dares to defy societal norms. This play makes us, as audience, want to rise from the seats and defend Leela Benare and the countless women who she represents. Vijay Tendulkar turns this play from a light-hearted rehearsal to a ruthless trial of a woman's morality. 'A woman in a man's world is considered progressive, but a man in a woman's world is considered pathetic.' The most famous line and the haunting truth that runs through the play. The play shows the life journey of retired Bharatnatyam dancers, Jairaj and his wife, Ratna. We see their present day tensions with glimpses of their younger selves. Jairaj's love for dance, an art viewed as feminine, becomes his lifelong struggle for acceptance within his own home. Ratna now pins all her hopes on their daughter, Lata, trying to shape her into a successful dancer. Mahesh Dattani weaves together a beautiful portrait of strained relationships- a marriage turned bitter, complicated father-son bond, personal toll of gender stereotypes. As the spotlight fades, the play leaves behind the ache of dreams deferred and the weight of societal expectations. What do you do when something terrible is happening to another person just outside your window, will you take action or will you look the other way? This is a play about a gang rape that happens outside an apartment building. The people inside hear it. Every night. And still, they do nothing. Based on a real incident in Mumbai, Lights Out brings together a group of middle-class residents trying to comprehend what they're witnessing or choosing not to. What begins as a conversation about what should be done turns into an unsettling portrait of ignorance and apathy of humans. The play shows how numb we've grown to the horrors that don't directly affect us. Manjula Padmanabhan's Lights Out shows a brutal reality- 'In real life, as in the play, no one went to the aid of the victims'. A dramatic play based on a story from Mahabharata. Arvasu, a young man is caught in the web of rigid tradition and family politics. His love for Nittilai, a tribal girl, is pure, but caste rules make it impossible. In this play we see men obsessed with chasing power and revenge. Paravasu, the chief priest is cold and calculating. Yavakri, returned from years of penance but still is full of pride. Raibhya, a father who is driven by jealousy. Rarely does a play blend mythology and raw human emotion with such perfection. The Fire and the Rain is a tragedy of what's lost because of ambition and vengeance. With its unforgettable characters, it stays with you for a long time. (The writer is an intern with

Actress Avika Gor, who rose to fame as Anandi in the TV serial Balika Vadhu, has now grown up and recently got engaged at the age of 27. After dating for several years, Avika got engaged to her long-time boyfriend, Milind Chandwani. Their engagement pictures are going viral on social media. The actress made her relationship official in November 2020, and the couple had been dating for almost five years. For the engagement, Avika looked stunning in a light pink floral saree, while Milind complemented her in a matching traditional kurta-pyjama paired with a floral pink jacket. Sharing the photos, Avika wrote, 'He asked.. I smiled, I cried (in that order)… and screamed the easiest YES of my life! I'm full filmy- background score, slow-mo dreams, mascara running and all. He's logic, calm, and 'let's carry a first-aid kit just in case.' I manifest drama. He manages it. And somehow, we just… Fit. So when he asked, the heroine in me took over — arms in the air, tears in my eyes, and zero network in my brain. Because real love? It may not always be perfect.' Milind Chandwani, who prefers to stay low-key, is an alumnus of IIM-Ahmedabad. He began his career at the Indian tech giant Infosys, and worked in a 9-5 role as a software engineer. However, he didn't just limit himself to the corporate world. He followed his passion for social change and founded an NGO, Camp Diaries, that focuses on supporting underprivileged children. Apart from being in corporate, he took a step towards showbiz by being a participant in MTV Roadies Real Heroes in 2019. He was in Neha Dhupia's team, where he left the audience impressed with his confidence and humble nature. Avika Gor had shared that it was Milind's idea to take time and explore more things with Avika before tying the knot. She was 26, and he was 32 when they decided to give time to their bond.
