Tempers flared in the tunnel at half-time - with Martin banished to the stands for the second half.
But last night he rubbished talk of an additional SFA ban - revealing the pair shook hands immediately after the 2-2 draw.
Martin confessed: 'I think we should have had a penalty.
'I'm a passionate guy and I probably overstepped the mark.
'I enjoyed watching the game in the stands in the second half. It was a good view.
'But seriously, I went and apologised to the official and I need to get used to how it works up here compared to down the road as well.
'I've apologised and hopefully we can all move on.'
Asked about concerns over a ban, Martin added: 'No, I don't think so, no. I'd be surprised.
'We shook hands and had a chat after and they accepted my apology and he apologised about the decision as well.
'Hopefully it's all just done and dusted.'

Strikes from Neto Borges and Fry saw Boro storm into a two-goal lead.
Martin was forced to send for reinforcements with his big guns from the bench helping Gers draw level.
Danilo and Findlay Curtis grabbed the goals with the Ibrox side now set for Wednesday's crunch Champions League second leg qualifier against Panathinaikos.
Martin said: 'I think it also showed that we need to strengthen a little bit in certain places as well.
'So the good ones that came on made a difference, then there's some that really pushed in the start of the football team that did really well.
'We just need a bit more depth and a bit more help in a few areas, which will come.
'The first half was a bit frustrating because we were playing against a good team, they're athletic, they pressed really aggressively.
'But a lot of the moments that were uncomfortable for us were down to a lack of intensity on our part.
'I said to the guys, I didn't like the warm up.
'There's a bit of disappointment in a few people, maybe not in the team.

'But if you're disappointed, and especially playing for this football club, you have to show it by being more aggressive, more intense, not being downbeat and just being out there and letting the game pass you by a little bit.
'They know that now. That can't happen.'
Hamza Igamane and Thelo Aasgaard both sat out Gers' final pre-season friendly of the summer.
But Martin insists they could both feature in Athens.

He said: 'We hope to have both, so we're not in a big problem, but it was just so early on to have them back for one game to then risk missing three or four after, or maybe even more.'
Boro boss Rob Edwards added: 'It was a really good positive performance. I saw a team that was cohesive and that carried a threat.
'They brought on one or two decent players and there's an expectance here, even if it's a friendly.'

Russell Martin machine guns Rangers flops in astonishing TV blast ego crew called out for reverting to type

The Ibrox boss was fuming at the performance of his side in the 1-1 draw at Motherwell Raging Russell Martin ripped into his Rangers players in an astonishing post match rant after being held by Motherwell on his Premiership dug-out debut. ‌ The irate Ibrox boss promised to weed out the slackers in his dressing room and ditch them as he called out the egos within the squad. ‌ Skipper James Tavernier headed the Light Blues into the lead but Rangers were outplayed by the hosts in the second half - and brutally honest Martin said the Steelmen deserved more than just Emmanuel Longelo's late equaliser. ‌ Martin's astonishing rant was labelled a machine gun by Record Sport columnist Chris Sutton on Sky Sports duty. The Gers boss refused to use an energy-sapping midweek Champions League trip to Athens as an excuse in a no holds barred Sky Sports post match interview. Martin fumed: 'They were braver than us, more aggressive than us. I said to the players, I've been really honest with them and I'll be really honest with you guys because it's what the supporters deserve, there's a default here at this football club and it's not one person's fault at all. ‌ 'The default is to revert to type which is when it's going really well everyone is all in, it's really good and when it's not going well you protect yourself a little bit and it's self preservation stuff. 'You can't play for this club and enjoy the really good times when it's going well and when it's tough say 'Oh, I'm not really sure'. ‌ 'We had too many on the pitch who wanted to do what they wanted to do. So if you are playing with real intensity and courage in your position that we coach you in then no problem but if you want to just jog around and do what you want to do then there's a big problem. 'Some of them have to drop their ego. I will look at us tactically and accept my responsibility in it. But today is not really tactical - it's a mentality problem and we got more than what we deserved, actually. 'We work out who really wants to be all in here and who doesn't. Lyall Cameron came on and did great because he wants to run really hard for the team. ‌ 'I said to some of the guys in there that Cyriel Dessers is the only one we've had a bid for and interest in and he comes on and runs so hard, and the same on Wednesday. 'Some of them need to have a look at him and set that example. There will be people left behind if they don't want to come because they need to really understand what playing for this football club takes and means - and not just when it's having a nice time. 'The European game speaks for itself. They find a way to get up for it. Hopefully it's down to a bit of information as well and today the lethargy and all that stuff is not acceptable. I'm surprised by it but more angry than surprised. 'I know what we're coming into and understand the fans' frustration. We are only one game in and we're a work in progress but we have to work out quickly who really wants to listen and who will really fight and run when the going gets tough but Europe isn't an excuse. 'We're going to have games after European games. We need some help, that's for sure, but also maximise what we have in the building. We haven't had a huge amount of games, some of them had their rest 90 minutes on Wednesday.'

Motherwell 1-1 Rangers: What Martin said

Russell Martin tells BBC Scotland: "I think we were lucky with what we got, Motherwell were really good."The thing I can't accept is, whatever the tactics are, we got outfought and they were braver than us to play in certain moments."We pick and choose when we want to play football properly and when we want to run hard when it's going well, and then when the game's not going well, we have too many players that want to do their own thing and slip into self-preservation."And this is not me blaming the players at all, but I think it's a problem the club has had over the last few years - when it's going well, it's fine, and when it's not, there's a problem, it's not together enough on the pitch."We have to work out quickly who really wants to dig in and fight and do what we're asking them to do."We didn't run enough, we didn't fight enough, we weren't brave enough. "Thankfully, we got a point."One run and then walking back to your position is not enough, it's not going to be us."I think there will be changes to the team [for midweek], Lyall Cameron came on and did great, really good. And it's not everyone, there are a couple of players who have been really good, John [Souttar] really good, Jack [Butland] really good, Cyriel [Dessers], when he came on, was great."We have a few decisions to make now, and we have a lot of work to do now. I don't think that's a surprise, we're six weeks in, but the problems can't be… the problems need to be tactical and not about mentality."So from the first half of the two European games, we improved in the second half because the penalty was better, it wasn't really a tactical tweak, maybe a little bit but today we paid the price for being nowhere near mentally resilitent enough, strong enough, together enough, so that's what will happen if you don't."

Russell Martin's brutally honest Rangers reaction in full

Martin pulled no punches in his post-match interview on Sky Sports as he called out some of his players who wanted to "jog around and do what you want to do." 🗣️ 'When you just jog around, there's a big problem' 🗣️ 'Some of them have to drop their egos' 🗣️ Dessers 'only one we've had a bid for' & he works so hard A 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 interview as Russell Martin cites a 'mentality problem' at Rangers after their 1-1 draw ⬇️ — Sky Sports Scotland (@ScotlandSky) August 2, 2025 "We were lucky to get a point," he said, delivering his verdict on the result and performance. "Motherwell played great, we were nowhere near where we need to be and I'm extremely disappointed and hurt by that. "They were braver than us, they were more aggressive than us. "I have said to the players and been really honest with them and I'll be honest with you guys because it is what the supporters of this club deserve... "There is a default at this football club and it is not one person's fault at all, the default is to revert to type when it is going really well everyone is all in, it is really good. "When it is not going well you protect yourself a little bit and self-preservation stuff. "You can't play for this club and enjoy the really good moments and then when it gets tough, 'Oh I'm not sure'. "You have to be all in all the time. We had too many on the pitch today that wanted to do what they wanted to do. "If you are playing with real intensity and courage in the position that we coach you in, no problem. When you just want to jog around and do what you want to do, there's a big problem. "Some of them have to drop their ego. "I will look at us tactically and accept my responsibility in it but today is not really tactical, it's a mentality problem. "We got more than what we deserved, actually." Quizzed on how to fix the mentality matter, he added: "Well, we work out who really wants to be all in and who doesn't. Lyall Cameron comes in, did great because he listens and wants to run really hard for the team. "And I said to some of the guys in there, Cyriel is the only one we have actually had a bid for and interest in. And he comes on and he runs so hard, on Wednesday night and today. "Some of them need to have a look at him and set that example. "There will be people left behind, if they don't want to come, they will be left behind because they need to understand what playing for this football club will take and what it means and not just when it is having a nice time. "The European games speak for themselves; they find a way to get up for it. Hopefully, it is down to a bit of information as well and then today the lethargy and all that stuff is not acceptable. "I am surprised but I am more angry than surprised." Read more: He continued: "There is no excuse. I know what we are coming into and I understand the fan frustration. "We are only one game in and it is a work in progress but we need to work out quickly who really wants to listen, who will really fihgt, who will really run when the going gets tough. "But Europe is not an excuse, this club demands to play in Europe. We have qualified for that so we are going to be playing in Europe a lot and we are going to have games after European games a lot and we have to manage them much better than today." Touching on the possibility of the result leading to accelerated transfer business, he said: "We need some help for sure, I don't think that has changed also we need to maximise what we have in the building. "We haven't had a huge amount of games, some of them played thier first 90 minutes on Wednesday but we have to work out quickly who really wants to play proeprly in the way that we want to."
