Uncovered hole: Pan Borneo contractor taken to task over
Published on: Wednesday, June 04, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jun 04, 2025 By: Ahmad Apong Text Size: Yusof visiting the site of an uncovered hole where a motorcyclist broke his arm in a crash. SIPITANG: A Pan Borneo Highway contractor came under fire for alleged negligence after a motorcyclist was injured in a late-night crash due to an uncovered hole along a section under construction in Kampung Naluyan. Qhazanah Sabah Berhad Chairman cum Sindumin Assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob expressed disappointment during a visit to the site, saying the contractor had failed to place proper barriers and warning signs. He said the incident occurred around 11.30pm on Saturday when the victim, Bakar Januddin from Kampung Lingkungan, crashed into the road work site and broke his right arm. 'The barriers were placed too far apart and left wide open, giving the impression that the road was still passable. 'There should have been proper barricades completely sealing off the hole, with warning lights, especially at night,' he said. Yusof said such incidents could be avoided if contractors carried out their duties responsibly. 'We want a win-win situation between the public and contractors. The safety of road users must be the top priority,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? DBKK to act on illegal parking in housing areas
Published on: Wednesday, June 04, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jun 04, 2025 Text Size: An enforcement officer issues a fine for illegal parking. - Pic via Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu | Facebook The City Hall (DBKK) will take enforcement action against vehicles parked on roads and public spaces in housing areas following frequent complaints of traffic congestion. The DBKK Enforcement Department said offenders risk being fined up to RM500 under the Streets and Public Places By-Laws 1966. Residents are reminded to park within their compounds instead of on roadsides, which obstruct traffic flow and hinder emergency response. This initiative also aims to maintain the city's image as clean, orderly, and safe. DBKK said it will continue educating the public through various platforms, including social media, and urged residents to call 088-521800 for further enquiries or complaints. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
