Ellen DeGeneres ‘would love' to host another talk show years after toxic workplace allegations

New York Post7 days ago
Ellen DeGeneres is not ruling out the possibility of another talk show in her future.
During a live conversation with broadcaster Richard Bacon on Sunday, the 67-year-old former talk show host shared that she misses so many things about hosting her own show, but doesn't think that format would work in today's world.

'I mean, I wish it did, because I would do the same thing here,' she told Bacon, per the BBC. 'I would love to do that again, but I just feel like people are watching on their phones, or people aren't really paying attention as much to televisions, because we're so inundated with information and entertainment.'
Since moving to England in November 2024, DeGeneres has taken her time in deciding on her next career move, admitting she is making that move 'very carefully.' While she doesn't know what is next for her, she says, 'I want to have fun, I want to do something. I do like my chickens, but I'm a little bit bored.'
The comedian hosted 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' for 19 seasons from 2003 to 2022. The show came to an end two years after allegations of a toxic work environment came to light in July 2020.

DeGeneres addressed the allegations during the opening monologue on the first episode of her 18th season. In the monologue, the comedian issued an on-air apology, in which she called herself 'a work in progress' before adding she is 'especially working on the impatience thing.'
'No matter what, any article that came up, it was like, 'She's mean,' and it's like, how do I deal with this without sounding like a victim or 'poor me' or complaining? But I wanted to address it,' she said in her conversation with Bacon. 'It's as simple as, I'm a direct person, and I'm very blunt, and I guess sometimes that means that… I'm mean?'
She went on to say that she finds it 'hurtful' that she probably can't 'say anything that's ever going to get rid of…or dispel' the rumors that she is mean, and that she 'hate[s] that people think that.'

Looking back, she added that it was 'certainly an unpleasant way to end' her talk show.
When asked about her recent move to the English countryside, she confirmed it was influenced by President Donald Trump winning the election.
She told Bacon she and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, originally planned to split their time between England and the United States, but changed their minds following the election.

'We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in,'' she said. 'And we're like, 'We're staying here.''
Since moving to England, the comedian and de Rossi have noticed 'everything here is just better,' highlighting the beauty of the city, 'the way animals are treated,' and the overall 'simpler way of life.'
'We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life,' she explained. 'We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.'

Punk musician Jock McDonald dies in ‘freak swimming accident'

Singer Jock McDonald of the punk band The Bollock Brothers has died 'in a freak swimming accident' in Bundoran, Ireland. He was 69. News of his death was confirmed by his bandmate, drummer Pat Pattyn, on social media. 'It is with great sadness in my heart, I have to bring you this terrible news… sadly, our singer Jock McDonald died last night in Ireland, apparently a freak swimming accident,' he wrote on Facebook. 'His children asked me to tell you all via this way… his family and all the Bollock Brothers are in shock… we are going to try and give this a place, but that won't be easy.' He asked for privacy for himself and McDonald's family. 'Rest in peace, my friend… I will miss you,' he said. Donegal Live reported that McDonald was taken from the water near the diving boards at Bundoran beach by volunteers for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) on Saturday evening (26 July). He was rushed to Sligo University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A promoter, DJ, manager and musician, McDonald was born Patrick Joseph O'Donnell and grew up between Donegal and Clydebank, Scotland. Formed in 1979 by McDonald, The Bollock Brothers rose to fame with their English-language cover of French musician Serge Gainsbourg's song 'Harley David (Son of a Bitch)'. Other notable releases included their original song 'The Slow Removal of the Left Ear of Vincent van Gogh', which featured Martin Glover from the band Killing Joke. In 1983, they released a cover version of the Sex Pistols' album Never Mind the Bollocks featuring Michael Fagan, the man who twice broke into Buckingham Palace the previous year. Over the years they released nine albums, including their debut The Last Summer and 1987's The Prophecies of Nostradamus. Their latest studio album, Last Will and Testament, was released in 2009 and dedicated to their longtime keyboard player, 'Big Mark' Humphries, who died on 31 March 2008. McDonald was reportedly working on new music prior to his death. Tributes have been paid to him on social media. Independent record label Charly Records posted: 'Charly Records are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jock McDonald, founding member of The Bollock Brothers. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Jock.' "He was more than a brother to me. I'm heartbroken, but if he had to be taken, then for him it would have been Donegal with our mum and Dad,' McDonald's brother Gerry O'Donnell wrote.

What we know about Beyond Paradise series 4 as filming begins

The beloved BBC crime drama is officially returning for a fourth series, with new details emerging about the team at Shipton Abbott. Beyond Paradise's Detective Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) is returning for another round of tantalising mysteries on the south coast in Shipton Abbott. That's right, the beloved BBC crime drama will be back for a fourth series and the great news was confirmed by Red Planet Pictures on Tuesday, 29 July. Not only that, but it was announced that production has already begun on the new episodes. For those who can't wait to learn more about the new series, here is what we know so far. When will Beyond Paradise series 4 be released? Red Planet Productions confirmed that production had begun on Beyond Paradise's first episode on 21 July with a picture of the very first slate of the series. The image showed a coastal view behind the slate and revealed that the episode itself will be directed by Fiona Walton. The Instagram social media post read: "We're back in Shipton Abbott! Filming has begun this week on the brand-new series of #BeyondParadise. Expect plenty of puzzling twists and turns as the team gear up for another series full of mystery, humour, and heart on the sunny shores of Devon and Cornwall." Humphrey and Martha's journey as foster parents is an important part of the series and it will likely continue to be a significant narrative in the next series. Elsewhere, the show has been exploring the personal relationships of several supporting characters, such as Esther (Zahra Ahmadi) and her budding romance with Archie (Jamie Bamber). The pair decided to part ways at the end of series 3, but the aftermath of this could play an important part in series 4. And then, of course, there will be a number of important cases for the team in Shipton Abbott to solve. Who stars in Beyond Paradise series 4? Marshall and Bretton are expected to return for the BBC show's fourth series, while other key players like Ahmadi, Dylan Lleweylln, Felicity Montagu, and Barbara Flynn are also expected to reprise their respective roles in the series.
