India's DAP imports from China fall to 97,000 tonnes in July amid new rules
Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Anupriya Patel said DAP import from China declined from approximately 22.28 lakh tonnes in 2023-24 to about 8.47 lakh tonnes in 2024-25 as reported by fertiliser companies.
"In July 2025, approximately 0.97 lakh tonnes of DAP have been imported from China," the minister said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilisers, including DAP, are under Open General License (OGL). The fertiliser companies are free to import/manufacture these fertilisers as per their business dynamics.
Citing reasons for the decline in DAP import, the minister said in October 2021, China amended its catalogue of commodities requiring mandatory additional inspection prior to export of fertiliser-related items, including DAP.
The regulatory requirement led to an increase in the CFR (Cost and Freight) price of DAP for India from USD 542 per tonne in April 2024 to approximately USD 800 per tonne in July 2025.
The minister said Ammonium Phosphate Sulphate (APS) may serve as a partial alternative to DAP, particularly in sulphur-deficient soils and for sulphur-demanding crops.
APS supplies nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulphur, but contains a lower phosphorus content of 20 per cent as compared to 46 per cent in DAP. Thus, APS is a crop- and soil-specific supplement.

Washington, Aug 6 (AP) Apple CEO Tim Cook joined President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday to announce a commitment by the tech company to increase its investment in US manufacturing by an additional USD 100 billion over the next four years. 'This is a significant step toward the ultimate goal of ensuring that iPhones sold in the United States of America also are made in America," Trump said at the press conference. 'Today's announcement is one of the largest commitments in what has become among the greatest investment booms in our nation's history." As part of the Apple announcement, the investments will be about bringing more of its supply chain and advanced manufacturing to the United States as part of an initiative called the American Manufacturing Programme, but it is not a full commitment to build its popular iPhone device domestically. 'This includes new and expanded work with 10 companies across America. They produce components — semiconductor chips included — that are used in Apple products sold all over the world, and we're grateful to the President for his support," Cook said in a statement announcing the investment. The new manufacturing partners include Corning, Coherent, Applied Materials, Texas Instruments and Broadcom among others. Apple had previously said it intended to invest USD 500 billion domestically, a figure it will now increase to USD 600 billion. Trump in recent months has criticised the tech company and Cook for efforts to shift iPhone production to India to avoid the tariffs his Republican administration had planned for China. India has incurred Trump's wrath, as the president signed an order on Wednesday to put an additional 25 per cent tariff on the world's most populous country for its use of Russian oil. The new import taxes to be imposed in 21 days could put the combined tariffs on Indian goods at 50 per cent. Apple's new pledge comes just a few weeks after it forged a USD 500 million deal with MP Materials, which runs the only rare earths producer in the country. That agreement will enable MP Materials to expand a factory in Texas to use recycled materials to produce magnets that make iPhones vibrate. Speaking on a recent investors call, Cook emphasised that 'there is a load of different things done in the United States". As examples, he cited some of the iPhone components made in the US such as the device's glass display and module for identifying people's faces and then indicated the company was gearing to expand its productions of other components in its home country. 'We are doing more in this country, and that is on top of having roughly 19 billion chips coming out of the US now, and we will do more," Cook told analysts last week, without elaborating. News of Apple's latest investment in the US caused the company's stock price to surge by 5 per cent in Wednesday's midday trading. That gain reflects investors' relief that Cook 'is extending an olive branch" to the Trump administration, said Nancy Tengler, CEO of money manager Laffer Tengler Investments, which owns Apple stock. Only 69 ‘makers of waqf' have submitted details of property on central Umeed website: Govt
NEW DELHI: It has been two months since the launch of the central portal mandating that details of all registered waqf properties are uploaded within six months as stipulated by law, but data shared by the govt in Parliament on Wednesday showed that only 69 'makers of waqf' have submitted details of property on the website while 663 have initiated the process. While four properties have been rejected, including three in Andhra Pradesh and one Odisha, none have been approved and made part of the database, as per the data shared in Lok Sabha by the minority affairs ministry in response to a question. In his reply, minority affairs minister Kiren Rijiju listed out the measures being taken by way of meetings, training programmes and visits by officials to inform, address concerns and equip state waqf boards to enable the 'muttawalis (caretakers)' of waqf to upload the details. A dedicated helpline has also been set up to address grievances raised by boards. Going by the information shared by the ministry at the time of portal's launch on June 6, it is estimated that there are over 9 lakh waqf properties in India. It was shared then that the central waqf portal will follow a three-tier verification system comprising the 'maker-checker-approver'. No makers have initiated the process in Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Sikkim, Goa, Ladakh and Lakshadweep. Of those who have submitted details — 27 are from Himachal Pradesh. 11 from Odisha, five from Manipur, four from Andhra Pradesh, three each from Rajasthan and Punjab, two from Uttarakhand and one each from UP, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Delhi. 'About 140 grievances/suggestions have been received from across the country as on July 28 and their resolutions have also been uploaded on the portal to help other boards to understand and handle the portal's functioning effectively,' Rijiju said. The ministry has also advised establishment of Project Management Units (PMUs) at the Central, state/UT, Waqf board, and district levels to ensure that the details of all properties are uploaded on the Portal.
