Nashville Predators claim defenseman Andreas Englund off waivers from Los Angeles Kings
Englund, a 6-foot-3, 200 pound defenseman, has played in 11 games for the Kings this season, scoring one goal. He played in all 82 games with the Kings last season, scoring a goal with nine assists, but this year he's been on the outside of the Kings' regular defensive lineup.
At one point, Englund was scratched in 17 straight games. He last played for the Kings on Jan. 11 in a 2-1 loss to the Calgary Flames.
Englund, 29, was a second round draft pick by Ottawa in 2014 out of Djurgardens in Sweden. Seen as a defensive defenseman, he's played in 173 NHL games for the Senators, Kings, Colorado Avalanche, and Chicago Blackhawks.
Englund is in the second year of a two-year, $2 million contract he signed with Los Angeles in 2023. By claiming him off waivers, the Predators will now take on the remainder of that contract. He will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Englund joins Roman Josi, Brady Skjei, Jeremy Lauzon, and Adam Wilsby as the Predators' top left-handed defensemen. The Predators' top right-handed defensemen are Luke Schenn, Justin Barron, and Nick Blankenburg.

Former Steelers CB Steven Nelson fires brutal shot at Jalen Ramsey
It's safe to say not everyone is excited about Jalen Ramsey's addition to the Steelers' defense — as a cornerback from Pittsburgh's past roasted him on social media. On Friday, former Steelers CB Steven Nelson aired his reaction to the news that Ramsey would be covering Buccaneers WR Mike Evans in joint practice — claiming he'd choose any wideout in coverage over the new Steelers cornerback. "Easy money," Nelson said on an Instagram story. "Take the over on whatever wide receiver [Ramsey] guards." Nelson's sour grapes should be taken with a grain of salt, as the former Steelers cornerback didn't have the smoothest of exits from Pittsburgh — dropping a fiery tweet on social media before his release. "Making a public announcement is a little out of my character, but you guys made your decision, please don't hold me hostage," Nelson posted via X on March 23, 2021. It remains to be seen if Ramsey, one of the most outspoken defenders in the NFL, will take the high road in response to Nelson's criticism — but we at Steelers Wire will keep you all updated as more information becomes available. Vikings' male cheerleaders hit back in social media post after fan backlash
Two male Vikings cheerleaders don't seem to be taking any of the backlash that they've gotten from some football fans to heart since the team announced their inclusion in the 2025 squad in a post on social media. Blaize Shiek and Louie Conn will be members of the Vikings cheer team, which sparked criticism and even some fans threatening to not be fans of the team anymore. However, Shiek seemed to address the controversy by poking fun at all of the people discussing him. The Vikings also responded to the controversy in a statement last week, defending Shiek and Conn.
