‘Did The Last One Get Eaten?': Internet Laughs At African Cheetah Monitor Job Vacancy

News1811 hours ago
An African wildlife conservancy is hiring a full-time cheetah monitor to track and care for cheetahs in the wild.
Panyame Wildlife Conservancy, located in Mozambique, is getting a lot of attention online after posting a unique job opening on social media. The conservancy, known for its cheetah reintroduction efforts, announced that it is looking to hire a full-time cheetah monitor, but the internet has found the job description amusing and misunderstood it in the funniest way.
On July 15, the conservancy shared an Instagram post about the vacancy. The role involves tracking and monitoring cheetahs across the vast land of the conservancy, taking care of them in bomas (enclosures), and working closely with anti-poaching teams.
What the Job Actually Involves
The job requirements are fairly standard: applicants must be fluent in English, physically fit, and 'bush-ready", meaning comfortable working in the wild. They should also have experience with Excel and data handling. Knowing Portuguese and Shona is considered a bonus.
'We're Hiring – Full-Time Cheetah Monitor. Join the Panyame Cheetah Project in the heart of wild Mozambique," the post reads. 'We're looking for a committed, hands-on field assistant to live full-time at our remote bush camp and help monitor, track, and care for the cheetahs we've translocated to the Panyame Conservancy. From feeding cheetahs in the bomas to tracking them across 210,000 hectares using telemetry and EarthRanger, this is real conservation in action," the post adds.
How the Internet Reacted
The post quickly went viral, gathering over 41,000 likes, 64,000 shares, and thousands of comments. However, many social media users misread the job description and took it in a different (and funnier) direction, leading to a flood of hilarious comments.
A user joked, 'Do the cheetahs speak English and use Excel, or do I have to train them?"
Another joked, 'Do they respond to pspspsps?"
People were also curious (and worried) about the fate of the last employee, with comments like, 'What happened to the last employees?" and 'Did the last one get eaten?"
An individual joked about the job description's emphasis on physical fitness: 'Physically fit? Do I need to run with them?"
Meanwhile, someone else asked, 'Can I take my cheetah home if I'm working from home?"
Despite the jokes, the post has caught the world's attention and might just find the brave soul ready to take on this wild role.

Didnt bathe for months, quenched thirst eating ice: Kargil braveheart recalls

Shimla, Jul 26 (PTI) 'We did not bathe or shave for three months and on several occasions quenched our thirst by eating ice," recalled braveheart Naik Praveen on the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas Saturday. Praveen, from the 10 JAK Rifles, said that on the evening of May 4, 1999, there were sudden orders to move to the Drass sector with only rifles as the climb was steep. 'After travelling all night, when we reached our destination the next morning, the village in Drass sector was empty and suddenly the Pakistani army started heavy bombing. Two soldiers from our group were martyred while two were injured," said Praveen, a resident of Sanjauli in Shimla, at a district-level function organized on the occasion. 'Food used to arrive at night," he added. Pakistan had captured several hill tops including the Tiger Hill which is a prominent peak in Drass sector in Kargil, known for its strategic military importance as the peak offers a commanding view of the Srinagar-Leh highway. Retired Subedar Major Diwakar Dutt Sharma (19 JAK Rifles) said the temperatures ranged from minus 30 to 40 degrees and the hills occupied by the enemy were very steep. It was not possible to climb in one day and we had to stop at intervals, he said. Then we attacked the enemy from behind when they had no clue, he added. 'We lost many of our soldiers in this war. But the Indian Army hoisted the flag of victory as everyone decided to take revenge for the martyrdom of our comrades and defeated the enemy during the Kargil war," said Subedar Major Ram Lal Sharma who was posted at the G unit along with his cousin Diwakar Dutt Sharma. The Indian Army on July 26, 1999, announced the successful culmination of Operation Vijay, declaring victory over Pakistan after a nearly three-month-long war on the icy heights of Kargil in Ladakh. The day is observed as Kargil Vijay Diwas. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said that the ex-servicemen who were part of the Kargil war will share their experiences in schools so that the feeling of patriotism can be awakened in students. He said that about 20 per cent of the soldiers killed in the Kargil war were from Himachal Pradesh. Seven ex-servicemen from Shimla district were also honoured on the occasion. Wayanad Man Lost 11 Family Members In Landslide. Now, He Runs A Restaurant Named ‘July 30'

Kalathingal Noufal lost 11 family members in the Wayanad landslides on July 30, 2024. A year later, he rebuilt his life, opened a restaurant named 'July 30'. The catastrophic landslides that struck Kerala's Wayanad on July 30, 2024, wiped out 11 members of Kalathingal Noufal's family including his wife and three children. The accident was life-changing for him. Now a year later, his story is one of grit, determination and massive support. Despite suffering such a huge loss, Naufal did not give up. He pulled himself together and decided to rebuild his life. Today, the 43-year-old has found a new partner, started a restaurant — named 'July 30' — and got a new house, reported Indian Express. Naufal was living in Mundakkai, the village in Wayanad that was totally wiped out in the landslides that claimed 298 lives, washed away houses and buildings. Indian Express. He then decided to move his life forward and fulfil the dream of his late wife, Sajna, to settle in Kerala by starting a restaurant. Initially, he was living in a temporary house. He also refused to meet counselors, as he felt that reliving the past every time would only increase his pain. He tried to heal his wounds on his own. During that time, Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen (KNM), a Muslim socio-religious organisation, gave him a financial aid of Rs 7 lakh. Deciding to carry forward the wife's dream, he started a restaurant-cum-bakery, which he named 'July 30' in memory of the day that upended his life. 'When I named the restaurant 'July 30', many people criticised me. But everyone who goes to the affected areas should recall that day, the tragedy and the loss. That will make people humble and bring them closer to God," he told the news outlet. Later, the Oman-based Kerala Muslim Cultural Center (KMCC) bought land for him and built a new house, the keys of which were handed over to him recently. After this, Naufal also married Safna, making a new beginning. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. No takers for 58k vacant seats in PPU, 950 in PU

Patna: Even though the process of admission in the current academic session (2025-26) is almost over in different degree collages of Patna University and Patliputra University, a considerable number of sanctioned seats remained vacant in these colleges. PU students' welfare dean Anil Kumar said, "Nearly 950 of the total sanctioned 4,531 seats in arts, science and commerce streams, are vacant even after the end of the spot round of admissions. Finally, the university has allowed the principals of all these colleges to admit students against vacant seats on their own." Even the colleges could not fill their sanctioned seats in popular courses running under self-financed scheme. These courses include functional English (Patna College and B N College), BCA (B N College, Patna Science College, Magadh Mahila College, and Directorate of Distance Education), BBA (Patna College, B N College, Magadh Mahila College), biotechnology (Patna Science College and B N College), mass communications (Patna College), environmental science (Patna Science College) and social work (Magadh Mahila College). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Libas Purple Days Sale Libas Undo "In Patliputra University (PPU), about half of the sanctioned seats are vacant even after three rounds of admissions. There are 1.20 lakh sanctioned seats in undergraduate courses in different constituent and affiliated colleges of PPU, but only about 62,000 students have been admitted against these seats so far," said PPU students' welfare dean Rajeev Ranjan. When asked about the reason of seats remaining vacant in different honours subjects in PU colleges, Patna Science College's former principal S N Guha said that all subjects taught in colleges and universities are not equally popular. "All the seats in some more popular subjects are occupied immediately after the release of merit list, but the seats in less popular subjects are not occupied even after the three or four rounds of admission," he said. PU dean pointed out that most of the vacant seats have been reported in the subjects like Arabic, Persian, Bengali and Maithili. "The university can't compel one to study any particular subject and, hence, the seats in some subjects will remain vacant," he added.
